I still find it incredible how massive the gaping plotholes are in Generations, how no one thought even for a second that their plot made absolutely zero sense whatsoever. Anyone can leave the Nexus at any time in their life. Direct line quoted from NexusGuinan. It's also said that time has no meaning within the Nexus. That means Soren could immediately leave the Nexus at a point well before he's ripped from it and find a way to never leave. It means Kirk could leave the Nexus and have a full life with that woman he wanted to be with. It means Picard could enjoy a lifetime of Christmases with his children and then another with hia grandchildren, repeat that a thousand times, and still follow the plot of the movie. Or he could pop back out before his Starfleet career and have a real big family in the real world. Most importantly, it means Kirk or Picard could go back to when Soren first boards their ship and just fucking execute him with a phaser set to kill and Soren wouldn't be able to do a god damned fucking thing about it. It completely negates Kirk's sacrificial death and makes both of them look like utterly retarded incompetents. No other Trek series or movie comes anywhere close to the absolute trainwreck of a plot in Generations.
Peace and contentment, /trek/

>>217184003...although on reflection, the Federation's retarded policy re the Ba'ku and their magic immortality planet (as outlined in the Plinkett review of that film, IIRC) probably bothered me more.
one thing I like about reading the DS9 book is hearing the writers say their original ideas for stuff that the ended up not doing because they were so fucking terrible and retarded. for example in the wedding episode they were going to have Odo go to the party to announce that he was so spooked about what he had done during the occupation arc that he was no longer going to be friends with anyone. just basically do his job and be a recluse on the station and that's it. but Rene was like...."Ok and then what? Odo is just alienated from everyone where can you go from there with the character?"and they were like>Oh yeah good point, I guess we can't do anything with that.and then they had totally run out of time so they had nothing to reconcile his actions with Kira so they made them do it off screen and they all admitted that was also terrible and they agree with all the fans who hated it because they hated it too. but they really just ran out of time because they put too much work into a terrible idea at first lol. that's how it goes apparently. there's multiple stories like that.

>>217183058ive been developing a theory for a couple years now to help with the nutrek problem. soran won and picard never left the nexus. all of the events of the tng films are picards nexus fantasies. and since you can do whatever you want in the nexus we can extend this cover all nutrek. i cant think of any signifigant impact to canon. it actually helps explain why janeway had to defeat the borg. most importantly it explains why picard turns into an action fag and why all the nutrek shit is insane power fantasy of the same ilk. i am very interested to see what you guys think of this. am i missing anything important?

>>217183058anon it's either outright stated or heavily implied that the longer you stay in the nexus, the harder it is to leave. if picard stayed for 1,000 christmases or whatever, he never would've found the willpower to leave. kirk, who was an absolute gigachad, was unknowingly stuck in there for like 40 years until picard came by and gave him some perspective. only through his gigachad willpower was he able to leave after 40 years, picard could never (he was about to break in that spoonhead prison just because of some lightbulbs)
>>217186155if you say so. i'm really not too interested because none of them have any chemistry with each other anyway as far as I'm concerned so to me it's like the writers just mashing Barbie dolls together. knock yourself out. i guess that's another reason why I fixated on Shran lol I actually believed he was in love with his girlies

>>217189990The way I look at it, the Founders have given them enough knowledge to do the bulk of the day to day work, but not enough for there to ever be a risk of the Vorta going independent.
>>217189990Probably because they're portrayed as having no individual agency, being slaves, and as being genetically engineered to worship the Founders.Their skill in genetic engineering and cloning is probably what made the Founders make them their administrator race of choice but clearly the Vorta do not have the supremacy in that situation which implies that the Founders themselves integrated and improved on their technology and achieved the mastery.

i went and read ahead a bit because I'm impatient but there wasn't anything that interesting about Waltz. just Behr basically confirming that they did this episode because they were all butthurt about how much fans liked Dukat and the memes they were seeing on the bbs. sucks to think that if people didn't like him so much they might not have ruined him. their original idea was that Sisko visits him in crazy jail and you go back and forth between their conversation IRL and inside Dukat's fantasy of himself running the station with Kira as his wife and see things literally from his pov in his head.

>>217197718His ideal era would've been the '40s. When actors like Kirk Douglas and Vincent Price could be leading men. Although. Maybe he was in the right rea. You look at his acting credits, he guest starred in pretty much every popular TV show in the '70s and '80s. He just never got that brake into the next level. If he was given something like Alan Rickman's role in Die Hard. He would've smashed it for six. And been a big star.
>>21719796550s and 60s were the prime for westerns on TV and he would get hired for them constantly
>>217174606That is some cold pussy. Vulcan pussy is much warmer.

how did he get cast as Dukat anyway?
Aye yo Captain Tone!Stagoots! Computagh makes me some gabagool Badda bing badda boom Buttafooko over heagh
>>217198524I don't know. He's probably spoken about it at a hundred Trek conventions though. He did play Cardassians since they first appeared in TNG. And he played other guest roles in TNG too. You see it a lot in Trek casting. Actors appearing again and again. Earlier in this thread. Talking about the first actress who played Ziyal. She was also in VOY and ENT. I suppose if you give a good performance. OK with doing hours of makeup. And you're chill to work with. They'll keep you in mind with future castings and bring you back.

My absolute hatred of this has more to do with demanding answers about who is allowed to get away with this and why. I think it's called a "sanity check" in psychology.

>>217201478Everyone can see the blatant IP laundering this show is. Somebody went to Paramount with an idea for a show about a school in space where the students have powers. And Paramount agreed to make it as long as it could be attached to one of their existing brands. Or they wanted to introduce Star Trek to a younger audience with characters they could relate to.

>>217201478>Iain RobertsonThis Iain Robertson?https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iain_Robertson>In 2025, Robertson was charged with rape and other offences against a series of women with a trial date set for June 2026OK, I know - it's probably an unfortunate coincidence. But here's my point: I doubt anyone knows who the fuck this guy is, or who 99% of "professional" reviewers are (or what their tastes/criteria for judging content are - unless it's just "Does it have brown lesbians in it? Then five stars!"). And why should anyone value the opinions of some rando on film/TV, just because they're classed as a "professional" - as if assessing media is a science and their subjective opinions are objective? Even before Hollywood went full-on screaming LGBTBBQ/anti-white etc - and critics were forced to (at a minimum) pretend not to notice the adverse effects or else lose their jobs/access - I found this strange. I had a friend who was a film critic and went to a few screenings etc with him. I've *met* these people. There's nothing special about them. At best, they're just randos giving rando opinions. At worst, they're effectively paid shills. Anyway, Star Trek.
>>217202988Why are you no longer friends?

>>217205238>>217205250yeah i still think SNW 5 sees the light of day but if things are bad enough they might just jam it into season 4 and close it out. but thats just hater hope. it just means that Kurtzman trek goes into 2027
i choose to believe the 5 digits figure. it makes sense to me.
>>217204965>>217205022Anons streaming services measure success by subscribers and what keeps people subscribed not individual views. Its not a youtube channel its an entire service people pay for.
