>>217176138I get what this guy meant, but I recently watched it for the first time too and thought it was great. Was invested the entire time so it breezed by, there was no meandering whatsoever and the special effects were great, the part of my brain trying to deconstruct the artificial imagery stopped trying to do its thing very early on, photorealism achieved for the most part. Maybe it didn't give enough closure, but it was in itself a fine movie. My room was nearly empty and some people walked out too, and it was neither IMAX nor 3D, but not even with a dead ambience did it faulter upon deliverance. It really put other movies into perspective, I haven't watched something as gripping in forever.

>>217177796I guess this needs to be spoken out.Movie itself has pretty good legs. not much worse than first one and second one.It just opened 25% lower than TWoW overall, and especially in supposedly countries-fans of the franchise like China.Lower box office doesnt speak much about quality of the movie, but more about general tendency of people to skip theaters.Maybe it is because some people got tired of Pandora in general, maybe it is because streaming services hurt theatrical releases, maybe it is because Disney has fucked up not spacing Zootopia 2 and Avatar enough, maybe it is all of that simultaneously.Zootopia 2, for example, absolutely took away 50-100 millions from FaA, especially in China. Also, i think, TWoW overperformed as well. It was post-Covid time and people absolutely needed that escapist movie no matter how restricted access to the theaters was.All in all, FaA performs pretty well given all circumstances. Every studio would kill for 1.7-1.8b final result.
>>217177310He probably would.
>>217178426>>217178637If I want to see it in anything other than shitty default 3D with smudged glasses I have to drive three hours. I'm lucky I was already in the area to see it in IMAX near release.First time I tried to watch it here I got a refund five minutes in and waited for IMAX, now I'm starting to get tempted to go to the local cinema anyway despite the quality.
>>217178705>Movie itself has pretty good legs. not much worse than first one and second one.Aight, i forgot how insane first avatar's legs were. Both TWoW and FaA can't compare.
>>217178621>it didn't have that sense of exploration the other two hadI've been saying the new clan seems underdeveloped compared to the metkayina since the trailers and anons were attacking me saying it's too early to tell

>>217177076Shalom to you too, rabbi.Except Hitler would consider Pandora and the Na'vi "Honorary Aryans"
>>217177796By domestic tracking, comparing day 17 WoW vs day 17 FaA, FaA is shaping up for 1.67B.If FaA's maintains superior legs, it could pass 1.7B, but 1.6B seems assured. The only thing that could hurt FaA is if its showings are reduced faster than WoW's were, since although WoW may have had a faster drop-off, the overall numbers were higher. FaA may not get the final trickle WoW did.
>>217178661It would make more sense if Jake sought refuge among the wind traders. They move around and are harder to track down and their culture is closer to the omaticaya so their ikran riding skills wouldn't be wasted. It would also give an excuse for each movie to explore different clans and environments
>>217179052Jim didn't put them with the Metkayina because they were the most sensible place to go, he did it so he could make half of the franchise about the ocean and whales.
My attention span is fucked for things like reading, I think it's also somewhat of a subconscious cope for me not being all that smart and looking for an "excuse" in poor attention. But with movies it's laser-like. In all my life never have I felt the need to check my phone during a movie I actively decided to watch. This not only was one of them, I was also extremely invested and it felt like 5 minutes total which still blows my mind since yesterday, when I finally watched it.I'd been posting here since it came out though, and knew all of the plot pretty much, and it still took a hold of me, especially everything in bridgehead. What a kino, I say.

If they can clone Navi hybrids surely they can do the same for humans.

It's doubtless very expensive to create a single backup on a soul drive, then those memories have to be returned to Earth and implanted in a grown avatar. The original project was experimental and lead to a special forces group that was almost entirely wiped out and whose surviving commander is dangerously close to going native. The advantage that Eywa wouldn't react to them is also now negated, Kiri had the wildlife targeting recoms and Mangkwan. We don't know if the RDA has more recoms in the oven or if they were waiting to see results from the first batch. If they were waiting, results have been poor.Finding out that humans can be altered to go maskless also devalues the program long-term.>TL;DRThere's precedent to see droves of new recoms or to see the program scrapped entirely. Personally I suspect it'll be scrapped because otherwise you have one-dimensional shitheads like the whaler and the general coming back and I'd have hoped Jim would have made them better characters if they were going to stick around that long.

What was Cameron thinking making this the last Avatar we're going to get for at least 4 years? I really liked it but it resolved absolutely nothing and only added more threads that will have to be resolved in future movies. Four years (will probably end up being more than that with his track record) is a brutal wait this far into the story

It felt like I had sex with Jimbo via movie, cause of constant back and forth between chill moments and high test adrenaline moments, or gut punch moments. It's very aggressive movie in terms of emotions. And sending all right messages. Cameron is a god, I'm out. P. S. Mom loved the movie and cried a couple of times.

>>217185989Cameron is an aggressively avowed atheist irl and has explicitly stated in multiple interviews that eywa is not divine or supernatural in any way. The "souls" in the soul trees are explicitly shown in the movies not to be real peopleMaybe it will be revealed eventually that actual souls go somewhere else when they die but I doubt it.
Does it strike anyone else as odd how weak and ineffective the RDA force and hardware is, when they supposedly gather their full strength?>small, slow, flimsy VTOLs>big whaling ships without any big guns mounted on top >submersibles which fire darts and nets and harpoons >Dragon aircraft which should be formidable but are each taken out by just hitting one small weak point In Avatar 1 it made more sense, a small force sent to protect a mining operation, but in this 3rd movie it's harder to wrap your head around it. If they fielded something like any modern fighter jet, which should be obsolete by 2160s standards, the Na'vi and wildlife don't seem like they would have any counter for it
>>217186590>Does it strike anyone else as odd how weak and ineffective the RDA force and hardware isAnd incapable of changing tactics, learn or adapt. Don't think about it. The RDA is a bunch of cartoonish, evil, retarded, inept villains. In fact, don't try to applly logic at all in those movies.
>>217186590I think the argument is that they have the same weapons because little time has passed since the first movie so no new weapons have arrived at Pandora.
>>217181853Only if they stop being so sexy first.
>>217186590Crabs and subs are hunting vessels first and foremost, they're designed to stick pointy things on slow whales. The helicopters actually make more sense than jet fighters for the landscape and wildlife they have to fight against. The banshees can cling to cliffs, hide in caves and turn on a dime. A jet fighter would just fly past all of these and not be able to target them in the mountains, or fly into and hover in the jungle. IIRC most of the exposition is designed around making seeking missiles unusable.

>>217186643Have you not seen Way of Water?A much bigger fleet shows up 15 years later with the main goal of colonizing Pandora and "pacifying the hostiles." And it shouldn't matter if they can't get stuff delivered, they build everything with AI and 3D printing. All they need are the raw materials

>>217177310I now understand the mass appeal of these kinos
>>217186885They were in the first movie but now that the primary goal has changed from mining to colonization, it doesn't really make much sense why they're still only allowed to have cardboard helicopters and small arms or why actual governments are not doing this themselves.Yes, obviously the story doesn't happen if the na'vi are totally impotent and have no way of harming the incomprehensibly more advanced aliens, but it's still dumb seeing the humans bumble around looking weaker and more incompetent than they were in the first movie
>>217186839There is a 15 year gap between 1 and 2? Didn't know that. And between 2 and 3 just months?
>>217186967They honestly did not expect the tulkun to choose violence. All of the defeats are from eywa surprise attacks. They’ll solve for that in the next movie.

>>217180202>>217180215>>217180247It's RDA propaganda.
>>217186967To what degree is this whole talk about colonization something the RDA sells the elites vs actual state policy? The logistical limitations of interplanetary travel are quite a central point of Avatar, and there's no way you could evacuate any meaningful amount of humans to Pandora. You could get plenty of super-rich investors to buy colonized lands and tickets to Pandora though.
>>217187369They'll be dumping tens of millions of Indians on Pandora next movie
>>217186967Look at the finale of FaA, navi needed toruk makto to unite the clans again, get whales on their side and trigger another defence response from eywa just to deal with RDA fishing crew, they are absolutely losing this war, humans aren't incompetent, you just see the only three times when they don't curb stomp the aliens>why actual governments are not doing this themselves.probably the colonization effort is just something they sell to the public so they don't get told to leave the navi the fuck alone, now that they got a proof that living on pandora with no masks is possible things are probably going to change after the timeskip
I get it was like two bigass movies split into two or whatever, but man rewatching Way of Water it's much more what I want out of Avatar films, exploring the location and Quaritch trying to figure it out too. There's still things happening but it's all at a slower pace so you're just taking it in more. I think people fell in love with Pandora because of that early act kind of content, not the action packed scenes that Ash is constantly hitting you with.
>>217178705I think the main thing that reduced the opening weekend was the shorter gap between movies. A new Avatar is seen as more of a regular occurrence now, whereas Way of Water had 13 years of waiting and hype behind it Assuming we get an Avatar 4, it might rebound somewhat, because it will likely get delayed and take another 5+ years to come out, feeling like more of a rare special event once it arrives
Navi are cats
>>217187433>humans aren't incompetent, you just see the only three times when they don't curb stomp the aliensAll we have seen is humans being incompetent so they are incompetent in these movies.
>>217187501I don't know if watching avatar with this mindset is going to do you any good. These movies are so deep with subtext and understatements that you have to rewatch them to get all the hows and whys. If you just chalk everything you don't get at first to cameron stupid movie bad you will never stop seething
>>217187466I like how the real climax of Way of Water, with the best and most powerful piece of the soundtrack, isn't an action scene, it's Lo'ak reciting the poem and helping Jake escape the ship. It's a height that the other two movies don't quite reach with their more standard action bombast

>>217187749This loser wants to see Chinese and Indians shit up every world in the Heavens
>>217187433Yeah and also the whales didn't even want to fight until half of them had been wiped out. The fish tribe chief though using guns was stupid. They need Jake to tard wrangle them.
>>217187749Less problematic when the human is turning into a xeno. In the next movie after the time jump we might see Spider looking more like a Na'vi in other ways, turning bluer and taller
>>217187860>>217187860>>217187860Move when ready
>>217187795I don't think Spider is going to turn into a na'vi or get an avatar. I think the point of his character is to show that humans aren't innately tainted and don't have to abandon their species to attone for the sin of being born in the wrong body. He goes with Kiri, who is the most human of all of the kids both in terms of blood and temperament. They're like the yin and yang of the best of both peoples
>>217187466This struck me too frankly. TWoW with half of time being an immersion into serene and soothing aqua life of Pandora alongside with the kids was what stuck with the people and made them rewatch it again and again. People want to chill with Pandora and have some character drama, some action, but nothing too stressful. In 2026 FaA is very fucking modern, and aggressive and blood boiling, and it IS great, but I think that made up for less repeating viewings. That being said, the movie is great and I'm going to rewatch it again.
>>217186802
>>217187795That would be too weird and make the Na'vi less special if people could just morph into them. Spider getting only the ponytail thing is sensible because most of the creatures on the planet have them so it looks more like the planet is changing him only enough to the minimum evolutionary requirements.
