I like woke horror for their generally diversive, equitable and inclusive direction and atmosphere, i don't really like seeing so many innocent people get killed by a knife wielding guy as a plot device. just gets repetitive after a while because it's the same basic beat over and over and i think that might be a turn off for some people
>>
what horror movie made you almost have a heart attack?

Any movie that starts off okay and then as it goes on, more and more blacks are introduced. Those ones.

So you don’t even watch it for the horror aspects?

>In an attempt to avenge her daughter’s death, Irene Kelly travels through parallel universes, killing her daughter’s murderer over and over again. With each kill, she grows addicted to the revenge streak, putting her own humanity in jeopardy.
aside from the muh grief angle, could have gorey promise

Movie is from 1977 ffs

Craven has haters but I always think he deserved all his success for grinding from so early on. Last House on the Left was 72, and Nightmare on Elm Street was 84. So that's more than a decade of experience leading up to giving the world Freddy-kino.

im actually curious how many shitty horror movies on tubi are actually starting to make money. in the past, most of the tubi horror section would make like a thousand bucks and be forgotten. the couple ads are worth not having to download something ill watch once

it's amusing that we've done the full circle back to TV model of free content with ads. tubi seems pretty successful. not that I use it since it's only a subset of what you can torrent.

Just finished. Loved this. Gentle but oddball slice of life drama with very subtle supernatural elements. A serial killer is targeting elementary school students at the same time a new girl is transferred to a school, so the student body ostracize her and try to frame her as being possessed by a ghost that haunts the girls' bathroom. Similar to another movie I saw recently, The Plague, about bullying at a boys water polo camp. This one is instead very sweet and life-affirming, and really professionally made with some good child acting. I was surprised the girl who gets bullied was in barely anything else, she's got that teen idol aura. I wouldn't recommend this to /hor/fags so much but I personally loved it.

I decided to watch Castle Freak again and I realized (unless I'm not understanding properly) the Freak really spent 40 years just chilling in his dungeon yowling and taking the whip until he got the faintest whiff of teenage pussy from down the hall and instantly chewed his own thumbs off to get free
>>
>>217200192
kek. I can't remember the small details but I honestly think it's a masterpiece story. there's no pretense or overt humour so it's pretty straight forward freakin.
also can you blame him. that actress must have quit the film industry since doesn't look like she did anything after.
>>
>>217200126
I think there was a Senritsu episode about that, I assume toilet ghosts are a thing in japan. wikipedia says Chiaki Kuriyama is in it.
>>
>>217200403
The literal title is Hanako of the Toilet, I think she's a popular urban legend and apparently there are a few more typically horror oriented movies about her, including one from the guy who made 2LDK
>>

>The Bye Bye Man
I've heard this one mentioned a bunch in here, is there something redeemable about it?
>>
>>217200561
No, it's so atrociously stupid that it's entertaining. It tries to use so many gimmicks that it stops even making sense.
>>
>>217200386
>I honestly think it's a masterpiece story.
This is why I keep watching there really are so many details what with how every character is related to some other character in some way and all the parallels. Also I like the actress who plays Sylvanna, she's so cute, I like her scenes. I think think daughter actress did a good job. The weakest part is the mom imo she's kinda one note and I hate how both of the parents treat Becky like she's a toddler, the whole vibe of that is off-putting. I guess 9 months isn't that long to adjust to being blind so it could make sense idk it's annoying to watch them freak our about her simply walking around indoors unattended
>>
>>217200647
Yeah it's hard to get a plot to spark like that, so many films end in a climax that's supposed to resolve the characters but it feels forced. Whereas Castle Freak feels like it does it with just a simple final conflict.
Barbara Crampton who played the mother was supposed to go nude for the final scene but apparently it was too cold so she pulled out of it. Always seemed confusing because she'd already been nude in a bunch of other stuff.
>>
>>217200715
>Whereas Castle Freak feels like it does it with just a simple final conflict.
And then the last shot on the cop and the little boy is really suggestive it's like...John did right finally by his own family but he ruined another....someone complained to me that this movie is too depressing compared to Re-Animator when I was talking about it and, yeah lol
>>
>>217200647
>>217200715
>>217200767
Sorry wait I actually just realized something
>it's annoying to watch them freak our about her simply walking around indoors unattended
I might be reading too much into it but I think there's a point to this and it's to show how them fussing over her is largely performative and a way for them to keep fighting with each other without actually doing it
Like
>Oh *I* care so much about you my only remaining child *I* would never let anything happen to you. Are you cold? Put on this jacket I'm such a responsible parent who isn't a drunken shitshow that kills my own son.
And John has to either sit there and take it or try to prove himself too. But in the end neither of them actually take her seriously and actually listen to her insisting there's an intruder and that's why there's a fucking Castle Freak running free in their home for like 4 days and they never fucking notice.
>>
>>217200767
Yeah it's a dark film even if the feeling is somewhat light.
I think like the death of the prostitute was similar to the death of his son. He didn't directly kill either of them, but secondhand through his alcoholism and taking his own family for granted.
And the Freak is counter to that - he did nothing wrong in his life, and yet got a life of hell. And now he does things very directly that are wrong, just for one sliver of something in life.
As in most good stories, the villain challenges the hero in a fundamental way. The freak is his half brother, his dark half. He's effectively an Elliot Roger style incel taking revenge against a world that's given him nothing but cruelty, against people who life is kind to but they take it for granted.
And so in the final conflict both of them have to atone for what they've done.
>>
>>217200439
Didn't like it when I saw it in theaters in 3D. Once I started watching the non-3D version at home, it's enjoyable. Took about 3 total watches to really come around on it.
>>
>normie horror sites are shilling the Dooba Dooba trailer
>check it out
Jesus Christ, this is awful.
Straight up feels like one of those porn flicks with PLOT, cheap visuals and awful acting, even by found footage standards (but probably a lot less sex)
Is this what horror has become?
>>
>>217201182
>Is this what horror has become?
Yes!
idk I hope it can pull something out of it's ass. It's a "entirely on security camera" kind of film, sounds good on paper but probably a lot harder in practise.

Just finished. Finally got on the Femina Ridens train. It's not horror, it's not a giallo, it's one of those pop art satires that were getting made in italy in the late 60s. This one's subject is the battle of the sexes, and I loved most everything about it, I've definitely developed a taste for 60s Swedish girls recently. Great decor, music, photography, everything.

What's everyone's favourite 'date night' horror movie?

Any releases from the last couple of years that'd be good?

which horror movie has the best and most amount of nudity?

I watched The Descent with my gf for one of our first dates and it went down pretty well but it's not like I've got a favorite 'date night' horror movie. There aren't that many horror movies I'd rewatch.

>>217202627

I feel like that's a movie for speedrunning some insight into a girl's personality but maybe not what you'd choose for a casual date where you just want a movie that gives her an excuse to hold your arm.
