I am going to watch it for a third time tomorrow.
I don't know what exactly is in FaA that makes me want to watch it again.
I didn't have that urge after TWoW even though i think it is superior to FaA.
I guess it is because FaA has stronger characters' pay offs, hardest hitting emotional peaks and in general more variety of situations characters are trapping in.
Movie feels like at least three rolled into one.
First one ends with Spider breathing and everyone going back to safety.
Second one ends with Neytiri saving Jake and Spider.
Third one is the whole final battle movie with three-acts structure.

>Midworld is a planet entirely covered by a rain forest three-quarters of a kilometer (almost half a mile) tall. Born is a member of the primitive human society that has lived peacefully on Midworld for hundreds of years, careful not to disturb the natural balance of the jungle. His people live in a gigantic tree called the Home Tree. When they die, they are ceremonially buried in another gigantic tree of a species called They-Who-Keep. Each of the locals forms a lifetime bond with a powerful and intelligent photosynthetic animal called a furcot.
>The world is disrupted by the arrival of an exploitative business venture from Earth whose representatives know nothing of the delicate stability of the planet.
>Born realizes that the newcomers are on his world to gain a life-extending drug from the burls formed by the They-Who-Keep trees around buried people. Horrified by this discovery and the invaders' callousness toward living beings, he uses native plants and animals to destroy their station. In the final fight Losting is killed, but Born returns to the Home Tree. Losting's brain and mind are absorbed to form part of a developing planet-wide network of consciousness involving They-Who-Keep and the furcots.

I kinda feel like the acting in these movies, especially the one by the Navi actors, is overall quite amazing. To the point where it's basically some of their best performances ever.
Not having to worry about make up, your hair, your costume, the set etc probably let's the actors really focus on the acting itself. It's probably immersive but in a different way from the usual.

I was dissatisfied with how A2 was after enjoying A1 and pretty much checked out of the series, I went to see A3 for Varang and the spectacle (and was pleasantly surprised to the point I revised my opinion on A2).
That's as someone who almost never goes to the cinema, so I am confused why the average slop-guzzler wouldn't see an Avatar film. The masses watch shounen anime for the flashing lights, and the level of spectacle in the Avatar franchise eclipses that by an entire dimension. There's really nothing else like it for pure technical visual enjoyment, and even in less important scenes what's going on is in detail, even in the background.

Laughed when he showed up at the human military base with the tribe literally painted like some savage warrior and tried to get Carmela Soprano to tone down the offensive anti na’vi language around his new girlfriend

Also anybody else notice the finger marks on his paint show Three fingers?

Recoms have four fingers like humans, same as Jake.

This means somebody else applied the paint to him. Presumably Varang

Also maybe I missed something but why was general Carmela so against using the ash clan as basically tribal mercenaries?

This was standard colonial practice ever since it began. It’s infinitely cheaper and more effective to give guns to some native groups and let them conquer neighbouring tribes while keeping a good relationship with them while you plunder resources and colonise than to physically do it all yourself. Especially since the ash clan are natives and know the area and it’s flora and fauna far better than anybody else could, along with regional politics and such

Quaritch seemed way smarter than the five star general for some reason

Quaritch is having an identity crisis but he's too stubborn to take the final step on his own. There are three ways it can play out.
>first, he's forced into it
The RDA betrays him in some regard, making him a scapegoat, restricting his freedom, turning on the Ash Clan, whatever. His loyalty to "humanity", which is really just the RDA, is one of the biggest anchors in his stubborn arsenal.
>second, he has forced contact with Eywa
This one is less likely because it still involves him choosing to relent in his stubbornness, and Varang is a complication here unless she herself has a change of faith.
>third, he sacrifices himself protecting Kiri or something because Spider cares about her
This is the most overdone and lamest option, some "he's done bad so he can't be redeemed without paying the ultimate price!" shit, and would probably also happen after he's connected to a soul node so that Spider could find him in Eywa. Since Jim has been satisfying with his character arcs and has some Christian themes going I'm hoping this won't happen and Quaritch will actually get time to shine in some sort of antihero role and spends one climax teamed up with Jake.

Biblical Imaginery

-"Eywa" = "Yahweh", a simple reversal of the abrahmic sky daddy god.
-The character name "Grace Augustine" is fully loaded with christianity. "Grace" is a specific theological state where you get right with god. Augustine was a theologian and saint.
-In the third movie, one of the Ash people pokes Quaritch in his obliques with a spear, drawing a bit of blood. This is like the Lance of Longinus for Evangelion fans, or: the holy spear.
-Varang's tight little horizontal binder is sometimes worn with a vertical stripe of paint or paints, clearly forming a cross.
-The third film specifically makes general appeals to faith and belief, especially the opening argument between Jake and Ney (and Jake really ought to know better, since he lived the proof of his god at the climax of the first film).
-In the first film, when the much larger Neytiri cradles Jake's weak human body, this pose is taken directly from the Pieta (mary cradles the dead jesus). The Michelangelo sculpture is the best known example, but it's a genre thing with other instances.
-"Tulkun". The sound of this word is suspiciously close to the jewish theological concept of "tikkun". In rough strokes, the jewish/kabbalastic notion of tikkun is: the world is broken and wrong, and various troublesome things in the world (qlippoth) obstruct our clear view of reality. Therefore, we should endeavor to repair the broken world that we inhabit.
-And then of course, the Na'vi are waging jihad against the occupying humans. You can stretch it any way you like, but the abrahamist stuff is a major informer.

The actors are so fucking old I worry they’ll die or be too old before the story finishes

But ideally I want Quaritch alive by the end, basicslly leading the Ash clan with Varang who are a cultural mix of na’vi and human style culture.

Even if they accept Eywa exists, as a kind of giant planet wide organism, that doesn’t mean you must accept it’s literally a god rather than some giant complex mycelium

Ending based on the fact they keep saying neytiri visits earth in the fifth movie, is something like

>Neytiri and other na’vi visit earth on diplomatic mission
>humans who agree to not do industrial shit are allowed to migrant to Pandora, where eywa can now give you a neural link and allow you to breathe there (hereditary I assume)

>Quaritch and Jake/Neytiri have a peace even if they never like eachother. Varang and quaritch probably run the more “advanced” area of pandora that’s more city like, has industry and such but doesn’t seek to expand relentlessly

Be interesting to see it go full circle since I remember Grace had some school in the first movie where she taught na’vi kids but it was destroyed for some reason (by natives?)

So you’d have Quaritch/Varang education places and probably some equivalent in sully areas that’s more spiritual and emphasis on balance with nature over naked expansionism and knowledge for its own sake

Na'vi of the ice, eskimos and sami anologies, they kill alien seals and even though the others navis find it horrible they will say how it's part of their culture and social right.
>Avatar 4
Na'Vis will enter the space age and become like the humans they fought so badly.
Pandora will be polluted, they will start colonizing another planet.
And so the cycle starts again.

Also Eywa will be proved to be a neuro-abomination that sent it's spores on earth and created the myth of God, Jesus, Zeus, Odin, Shiva, Quetzalcoatl and whatever else there is.

My guess is Avatar 5 would be more about somehow fixing/reviving Earth and making it livable and sustainable for humans long-term. Giving it an Eywa equivalent, or reviving an unknown one that was killed in the past. Thus removing the incentive for humanity to expand and colonize/migrate

>humans who agree to not do industrial shit are allowed to migrant to Pandora
Earth has 20 billion people, there's no way to migrate them to Pandora fast enough to make any dent and alleviate the "Earth is dying" situation. They would quickly run out of all the raw materials for the ships if they tried

Cool thing about Avatars (and partially why it makes soulless uneducated retards see the) is that it is spiritually pure old school scifi/fantasy pulp from 30-80s.
It's not even about taking some plot points bit for bit.
When I watch them I feel the same feelings I feel reading Hamilton's The Star Kings or John Carter of Mars, or watching Forbidden Planet with Leslie Nielsen as boyscout'ish Captain falling in love with local girl.
Just like fantasy and science of old Avatars are filled with romance of reaching distant stars, falling in love with beautiful alien chick, becoming the coolest guy around and saving the new world. At the same time while having villains and dark stories of violence, just like on those old school books and movies, Avatar is filled with hope and optimism. Heroes defeat villains and carry on.
Avatars are absolutely the best adaptations of old school space opera since SW 1-6.

Literally one of the only good and most important things boomer directors like Cameron (and Lucas, who accomplished the task) is making homages and passing down the stuff they enjoyed as children. If even a dozen people could hunt down the old works of Poul Anderson or Leigh Brackett or (God willing) Burroughs because somebody of Cameron's statue namedropped them as a creative influence it's an objective good, because these stories get more obscure and forgotten every fucking year that goes by.

You are confusing going full tribal with being good. As we show with Varang, that's not actually true. And since Varang is his connection to the Navi culture, it's pretty obvious he is not turning good.
Also Jimmy outright stated he is going to be the villain in all movies.

In the extended cut of Avatar 1 you have that scene of Jake and Neytiri finding Tsu'tey dying, but there was a scene in the script where after he fell, Wainfleet cut off his Kuru, before they find him. I think its probably the gunshots and fall that ended up killing him though.

>“We don’t have to go out and slay a giant every time we make an Avatar movie. We’re trying to future-proof ourselves. In the meantime, generative AI has come along with all of its threat and promise, so that means everything that we developed and thought we would advertise across the four films we are probably going to reconsider if we do move forward with more sequels. There will probably need to be a mini-evolution or mini-revolution at the very least between where we’re ending Fire and Ash and where we start on Avatar 4 and 5, maybe a year from now.”

He was talking about how movies are becoming too expensive to produce and that in order to save movie making they have to cut expenses in half. And AI comes in handy. This may actually let him do more quicker and for less money.

This was the solution to Finn in Nu Wars. Clones aren't supposed to be force sensitive, ever. Walla. Make him take prisoners that are his twins. Now the New Order is more monstrous for refreshing Jango clone templates with Squid/Hunger Games blood sports in Super Soldier Clone program . . . Quaritch's leap was, "I guess I'm not your old man after all." He could probably tempt Spider from Sully with the promise of RECOM, especially if he was grievously or mortally wounded. And when main characters will seemingly manage to defeat the remnants of RDA, Earth Colonial Marines will show up and wipe the floor with Navi and take some of the characters hostage to get them back to Earth for some reasons.
That's where Avatar 4 ends so we will spend Avatar 5 on Earth.

I love cetaceans, but I've had enough of the conflict revolving around Tulkun hunting for two long-ass movies, it's time to move on. This scene was very satisfying though
>>
I'd wondered why the Mangkwan would sacrifice kamikazes to raid air traders when they can't even trade the shit they find and they don't seem to do much except gather sacrifices, then I realized blowing up the jelly-blimps and creating massive fireballs for Varang to gawk at might be why they do it at all.

>Predictions for Avatar 4?
>Humans come back but this time they're spearheaded by the united military of Earth
A lot of people think that "the real human army" will come in. But I'm not sure how that would work. The travelling to pandora and back again takes 12 years. You sleep through most of it, but your peer group back on earth ages a decade. The soldiers would riot if the politicians told them to leave their gfs/wives/children behind for so long. They know that their milspouse would cheat with BBC.

I think they will feature prominently yet but not how you think. The hunting fleet has been wiped out, military command ditto, all that's left are the science pukes, hard laborers and settlement protection personnel, a lot of people still but they won't manage to resume hunting operations anytime soon, especially now that the whales changed their attitude. So I don't think there will be much of a plot around their hunting. I do believe they will play a bigger part overall, and will have something to do with going to Earth, probably in powering the ship that's hidden away in the polar ice caps. So they'll still be around, although expected to suffer heavy losses in the future not on account of hunting but "pacifying" operations in the grand return of humanity.

Now that you mention it, I'd been thinking of Bridgehead as more or less impregnable still with the automated defenses, killzones, ground forces and surviving air forces, but I doubt their sea gates can keep out 300ft+ tulkun that are more than twice the size of any ocean predator we've seen so far.
I kind of doubt it'll happen and it'd be some serious deja vu to the first film and Hell's Gate, but if it goes down at some point in the future I wouldn't be surprised if it's through breaking the seagates with tulkun.

if it gets made I'm guessing it'll pull a fake out, triumphant breaking into and conquering of bridgehead, expulsion of hostiles and peace at last. fade to black
12 years later...
oceans, forests, ashy wastelands nuked the fuck out (using the methods acquired from last train from hiroshima), heavy casualties, forced migration to polar regions unaffected because barely anyone lives there/isolation from global struggle

There's also this gargantuan ominous structure that's conspicuously unlabeled in the book, surely there's something big planned concerning it. There've been ideas that it's something that will enhance Earth's ability to reinforce and resupply Pandora.

>Quaritch and Varang take over Bridgehead
>Quaritch is a Toruk Makto too
>Quaritch wants to conquer all of Pandora and has an impregnable fortress now
>A number of RDA scientists and other civilians escape with the help of the heroes and join the traditional Na'vi
>Quaritch hijacks a supply ship
>This is all bad enough that the Earth military is forced to get involved
>The Earth military has new neural jacks that allow the soldiers to control their battle machines like their own bodies
>>
List of requests for Jimbo:
>I need more of those walking mechas. They were great in the first one, and in other two just weren't really there.
>I need at least one scene of Quatrich and Jake fighting enemies side by side (again).
>Quatrich becoming Toruk Makto.

>I need more of those walking mechas. They were great in the first one, and in other two just weren't really there.
Combine these two, bring in the human military and give them full on neural jack mechas instead of exosuits and glorified cargo hauler AMP suits, as cool as they were.
In exchange it turns out Kiri's declaration of total pinker death has caused Pandoran wildlife to become actively, globally hostile to human presence.

It's over. Legless, dead franchise. Avatar 4 will never get greenlit, Neytiri will grow old and bitter only in your imagination, Quaritch will remain officially dead. Avatar fatigue has finally set in. Cameron will die in 2 weeks. Robustrannies lost.
>>
>>217225181
I will definitely buy the book if Jimbo will actually decide to end the franchise like that, but feel like FaA was designed to absolutely have continuation in a movie format.
At the same time I absolutely doesn't want 4 and 5 to be directed by anyone else. I also hardly imagine Cameron as just a producer of his creative child and not seriously fuck with the director. That may turn into hell.
But Disney won't let 6+ billions franchise go like that either.
I'm thinking Cameron is using his "I'm gonna leave" as a leverage to force Disney give him bigger budgets.
At the same time I'm thinking AI progress may allow him to create more for less either.

Comparing it to similar situations on earth today, going to a dangerous remote environment to do security must have good base pay as well as hazard pay and insurance, and there's no need to spend any of it until/unless they return home. If they have any family, leaving earth possibly for good is a fair trade for giving their family life-changing financial security, especially if earth is apparently a lost cause

If you want to gain a whole new level of appreciation for Jim as a writer, just watch the Avatar movies back to back and then play Frontiers of Pandora. The game is gorgeous and I'm having a good time with it, by holy fuck is it jarring to go from the movies where people talk like actual adults to the game's Resistance HQ, where human characters are the definition of Ubislop woke millennial writing.
