Colbert's discomfort as his own audience laughed at the absurdity of his position was priceless.

The great MST3K episodes had nothing to do with Joel, Mike, or whoever that was in the reboot—it had to do with the movie being entertaining in a way it never intended to be. Watch the "Cry Wilderness" episode of "nuMST3K" and tell me you weren't entertained. But that brings up the crux of the problem—you're not a fan, you're a critic. You look reasons to hate something, while I look for reasons to enjoy it. You can't comprehend that, so you're bitter, angry, and spent lots of time seething.

So you admit Star Trek has a mix of serious episodes and goofy episodes. So why do you focus on the serious episodes, ignore the goofy episodes, and thus pretend the show is serious and deserves to be taken seriously? You have selective attention.

Do one with your emotion-projection, mate. The new series just aren't funny, as witnessed by the reaction whenever a nu episode comes around on the YouTube streams, and the comments on all forums which aren't tightly controlled. And the failure of Joel's last Kickstarter campaign. The irony of having a go at me for finding fault with a bad TV show that's all about finding fault with bad content completely escapes you. And being a mindless, uncritical fan of any franchise is a sad thing to be.

JJ is saying some of the writers on 2009 liked Star Trek and he at least countenances that he's SEEN it but he still says he doesn't like it and never did, and he flat out says his producing partner (Alex Kurtzman) has not seen it at all.

And it's important to note that he says Kurtzman HAS not. He doesn't say "had not," meaning he had watched it. Even with 2009 a finished product they were marketing and Kurtzman being one of the main creative forces on that movie, JJ Abrahams specifically says that AT THIS POINT Kurtzman has STILL not watched Star Trek.

It's astounding really.

Even the goofy episodes took themselves serious enough to be respectful to the audience & not utterly waste our time shitting all over the thing we’ve been tuning in to watch all season. It’d be fine if they made some high-minded future trek shit set in the 7,000s, but no, it’s just lazy “let’s fuck up everything that’s already been established”.

There are many reasons. First, Kurtzman is an incompetent person who got lucky and landed a cool job. Second, if it weren’t for Kurtzman, someone more competent might have been given this position instead. Third, his work is damaging the lore and world-building of Star Trek, making future projects harder to develop.

There was a 300+ post thread bitching about Academy earlier today
And it was a really good thread because most of you weren't in it
Or for some reason it just failed to attract the worst of you

And it really got me thinking how if I wanna talk about Star Trek on /tv/, it's fine to do it in a one-off thread
But the /trek/ general is just permanently, intentionally unusuable
In fact it is a containment area for people who DON'T want to have normal discussions about Star Trek

I guess that's the curse of "generals"? It very quickly becomes not about the thing it's about, but a pseudo-Discord for attention whores to do their catchphrases as if they're Sheldon Cooper

PS. fuck you
>>
>>217277438

>>
>>217277461
We talked about nutrek some, mostly to taunt it
And about TNG and DS9. Not much TOS, but you can't win em all

But more importantly nobody showed up to spam hundreds of screencaps of the Trek & Morty show and spam how they're the best thing ever and only a vocal minority of elderly people dislike it, and nobody did avatarfagging gay ERPing, and nobody posted walls of text of random song lyrics

This is unbelievably accurate. Infinite Jest, Finnegan's Wake, and Ulysses are all massive danger signs when you ask someone what their favorite book is. Someone tells you something like one of the Battle Circle or Xanth books by Piers Anthony, one of the early Ender books by OSC, one of the Dragonriders of Pern books by Anne McCaffrey, you're golden, they'll actually have worthwhile discussion on a wide variety of material. It's hard to be an insufferable stuck up faggot about it when your favorite book is wizards or spaceships.

Just watched an episode of DS9 where Odo's mother disguised herself as the person he loves while stuck in a rock in a compromising position
What was her plan there
>>
>>217278694
her plan was making Odo think Kira was dead so he'd have nothing left stopping him from coming back to the Link

He's probably talking about Lindelof, though Kurtzman says that while he had watched some, Orci was a much bigger fan than he was. But it's still astounding that CBS kicked out Bryan Fuller yet let Kurtzman back, let alone extended his contract

Its nice to finally see some more diversity and representation on Trek.
Strangely enough diversity always seems to only ever mean less white people.
>>
>>217279313
It's almost like there's some kind of agenda.
>>
>>217279313
So in TOS most of cast are Jews.
In TNG only two white men are in the main cast.

>Strangely enough diversity always seems to only ever mean less white people.
If the status quo ante is disproportionately white people, that's what parity and equity will require.

Kira's boyfriend died like just the previous episode
it would have been insane for her to say she loves him then

If I didn't know any better, I'd think the spammer hired a bunch of jeets off of fiverr to help him ruin the thread.
