Academy is good and I realized I dont like this community.I grew up watching Voyager with my single father. We didn't do much together but we watched Star Trek.As a young adult I really got into it. I've watched every series and movie multiple times. I own them all on ITunes and some Blu-ray. Not every episode or movie is good of course, but I love Star Trek. Ive even been to the convention in Las Vegas.I saw all the posts made here leading up to Academy wanting to say how its not for them or how people were going to hate it or how they hate all new Trek. And it makes me sad that internet is such a miserable place. I mean scroll down a bit and you'll see the longest post over about someone who appears personally victimized by a show. Lol.But as is everything these days. So full of decisive negativity. As bid this community a fairwell and mute it I just hope you all find happiness and hope for the future. Maybe a hope you'll find the Star Trek y'all looking for.

Negativity can be used in a positive way, particularly in an appropriate place for it like 4chan
>>217381225>DS9 Alexander is pretty good. In what fucking world other than being an epic contrarianMuch like everything with Worf they completely things TNG established, have him do something completely nonsensical for his character and turn him into literally a retarded clown in the process
>>217381849He's literally making up stories now probably using chatgpt lol
>>217381945Alexander was like 5 years old in TNG. Did you have the same personality at 5 as you did at 18? What do you think Klingon puberty would have done to him? There is more than enough space for ds9 alexander to make narrative sense. And his clumsy semi klingon nature also helps broaden the personality types of on screen Klingon characters too. It's not amazing stuff but it aint bad
>>217381997youre right. alexander is fine in DS9. the problem is worf settling for jadiza and then installing the coward martok as chancellor.

Again, please realize that for better or worse, they aren't trying to appeal to old school Trek fans. They use the name and IP to try and retain a portion of the base, stand out via marketing, and then do everything to try and get the larger young streaming viewing audience of today by any means necessary. They are percieved to be more valuable of an audience by the studios. You can say that is a good or bad thing, I don't care, but people need to realize that is what the situation is.Most people watch shows in the background while they are on their phone. Most Americans want characters in their shows speaking at a middle school english level that they themselves are stuck at. That is just more relatable to them. Did you really think they would want 'Shakspearean dialogue' in their tv show? Studios want these eyeballs because that is how they get money. Simple as.People talk about the explosion of nerd culture, but really what happened is that nerd culture eventually courted the mainstream at the expense of the nerds. It is just more profitable. If you cared about what the 'identity' of these shows used to be, you were essentially labeled an autistic. Entertainment media is mostly an aesthetic now. It isn't about enjoying the show itself, but about how it looks on you and it allowing you to be a part of some ''''community''''...

>>217383479for promo. most of the people who i know watched it just watched it on paramount anyways.
>>217383428Hollywood has been running itself out of business with this mindset, chasing marketing demographics and short-term winfalls while ignoring niche fanbases and long-term returns.Everything goes for the zoomer audience.Everything tries to create a billion dollar blockbuster. It's as if Hollywood cannot see the value in a very-willing-to-spend niche audience that has sustained an IP through fire and brimstone for 60 years. No, it has to have more than that for... reasons.Sure, it could just try to create a quality product within that IP that respects it which might appeal to long-term fans and actually attract new viewers through a reputation for, you know, QUALITY. But nah, let's just chase a bunch of fans who will never like Star Trek instead and try to change it into lowest-common-denominator slop. These people are not good businessmen and the state of Hollywood and its seemingly unstoppable slide into enshittification is the result.
>>217383548>nobody wants pretend trek which wears the uniforms but has no real trek content first negative take i've seen that I agree with. The whole doomsday vibe really doesnt fit star trek
>>217383559I wish we could have one show that isn't just a 12-hour long movie with so much plot its exhausting. Academy feels like it wants to be a cinematic masterpiece but instead you get choppy dialogue and a flashbang of lens flare anytime there's a window in the scene. Reminds me of the overblown lighting bit in Crisis Point
>>217383548>>217383558so why is it apple and netflix and hulu and amazon dont want to promote their new shows? why is it only paramount who has to give their premium content away for free?
>>217383641netflix is the leader in the market right now so they dont have to botherapple/hulu/amazon all have massive corpos backing themparamount+ is the only one standing out in the cold without backing and relying more on their subscriptions than any of the rest
>>217383641Netflix and hulu are actively losing too much money to give anything away for free. Disney and Warner bros put out episodes of stuff on youtube all the time.
>>217383559>short-term winfallsThat is all the current executives care about. Other executives may be in charge in the long term. They want to boost their own statures, not someone else's.>Everything tries to create a billion dollar blockbuster.Have you heard people talk about movies in theaters? They say that if it isn't the next blockbuster that everyone just needs to see to be a part of the zeitgeist, they can just wait until streaming. Even people here say that. The numbers back it all up too. How do you think these studios will respond?>Use lower budgetsPeople have these mythical ideas of how much it costs to make a movie. There is a reason the small budget indies are starting to shoot in Hungary now. People will support all these writer, actor, crew strikes online (which I am not necessarily opposed to), and then say 'why can't these companies keep their budget under control?'
>>217383774>we can't have lower budgets because writers want money
>>217383774Let's not pretend the light grips being unionized is the reason Hollywood spends 10 million dollars an episode on something as shitty as Starfleet Academy. You and I both know where that budget is going and none of it is going to the right place. It's largely going into things like the CGI budget, into paying the two A-list writers they hired to recite D-list written trash, and into the pockets of the Executive Producers. A light grip trying to make 60,000 bucks a year to keep the lights on in Commiefornia isn't breaking their bank, pal.I don't know why you would try and let these incompetent retards off the hook for such an egregious misappropriation of funds.Hire good writers. They're not even fucking expensive necessarily. Hell, hire ONE well-tenured, experienced Star Trek writer and let him pick your young talent on merit, and then let him herd them into writing Star Trek properly the same way the young TNG writers were guided by veterans and yes, even the Roddenberry rules.Doing this one simple fucking thing instead of making Kurtzman himself co-showrunner is how you fix a lot of Star Trek's problems.
>>217383872into paying two A-list actors, rather*
>>217383811It isn't writers specifically. Everyone wants their piece of the pie. It all adds up very quickly.People wonder how Corbet and Fastvoid make movies for so cheap (Hint: they shoot in Hungary). They didn't personally earn any money on the Brutalist either.Sean Baker tried to screw his crew on health insurance items, and was livid when he got forced into it. These indie autuers who manage to keep costs down are going to great lengths to avoid paying anybody.
>>217383872Kurtzman writing the first episode of academy says it all. >hire ONE well-tenured, experienced Star Trek writer and let him pick your young talent on meritstart hiring the fanfic writers again. At least they know what star trek is.The budget almost always goes to the actors and the vfx companies that they overwork and rush to finish. Actors get paid WAY too much and 90% of their cut goes to their agents anyways. Maybe we need a more humble hollywood again
They are hiring young diverse writers because that is the demographic they want to attract. The problem is none of these people actually watch Star Trek, they just have this IDEA of what Star Trek should be because they watched a youtube vid on Leonard Nimoy once.
>>217383872giamatti is B list and hunter is C.
>>217383987i feel like even at the top levels they do not go into this thinking about making a Star Trek show. there is a certain type of show they have in mind they want to make and they just slop IP paint over it. the fact that that IP is "Star Trek" doesn't actually factor in to the writing choices or the conceit of the show.
>>217383987>>217384035They'll just keep failing because of this and wondering why.So far, the only non-Trek fans they've managed to con into liking something are retarded American cartoon gooners, one of the lowest IQ fanbases in existence
>>217384035They are like, "We want our own Wednesday, what do we got? Star Trek? Eh sure."
>>217381281I'm cancelling my pre-orders
>>217384074the thing is, I think it's theorhetically possible to make a "Star Trek" IP slop show that is nothing like Star Trek but yet somehow still manages to be a good show that people would like. like for example I heard everyone saying how good Andor is, even people who don't give a flying fuck about Star Wars otherwise. it's like I said before>good good, bad bad
>>217383254So, your argument is, viewers don't watch tv in HD on the streamer they pay for, but instead watch in lower resolution on the YouTube app.Because -- why now?
>>217384150which ones did you have ordered?
>>217384074even if drecks was somewhat successful it doesnt have any lasting effect because those degens will just move on to the next crudely drawn cartoon as soon as they stop making it. the think they really dont get is that with star trek quantity is more important than quality. we will forgive all sorts of shortcuts and mistakes for 25 stories a year. what i dont get is why they wont try it. CBS produces half a dozen shows with 20+ episode seasons. dont care if it doesnt look like a big budget movie with the beat wiz bang lazers. bottle episodes and cardboard sets is why star trek was greenlit in the first place.
>>217384172I don't suscribe to a single streaming service but I have youtube premium.
>>217384218>I don't subscribe to a single streaming service but I subscribe to a single streaming service
>>217383872I am not saying there isn't a lot of waste, but these shows would still be expensive even if that were not the case. The normies DO want CGI. Actors used to be a semi-wise investment in terms of marketing, but that is a lot less true these days. Regardless, I really doubt Giamatti is asking for a ludicrous amount of money. Unsure on Elastigirl. The only thing I can't believe is that they allow Kurtzman to continue to drive this brand. He has alienated hardcores, and I don't think he obtained tons of new eyeballs either. I understand if they want to chase market trends, but they should absolutely be trying anyone besides Kurtzman at this point.
>>217384266Is YouTube bidding to by Warner Bros? Serious question. I can't keep track anymore.
>>217384218We call that “The Preem” around here
>>217384294Who gives a fuck what normies want. Make your own original sci-fi show for them. Star Trek was made by Gene who was an autstic pervert for other autistic perverts. Being ashamed of the IPs core audience, turning your back on them, and then still wanting to make money off that IP is RETARDED.
Paramount going up $1, bleh.
>>217384459Invasion America, made by a group of Trek vets. Gargoyles is Science Fantasy, but ditto. Roswell Conspiracies: Aliens, Myths and Legends. Superman: The Animated Series. Batman Beyond. These are shows with a cinematic quality ala Next Gen era Trek, all have incredible episodes that put most new sci fi shows to shame in terms of artistry and intelligence. Cadillacs and Dinosaurs is alright. Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles is strong though limited on sci-fi. The movie Titan A.E. is good, ditto for Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. Marvel Knights Motion comics like Iron Man Extremis, Eternals, and Inhumans are quite thought provoking. You won't find anything with actual stimulating writing or maturity in the last decade. But you will find plenty of things written for 12 year olds that grown adults tell themselves are adult because their is heavy swearing and bloody violence. Once you run out of the good stuff, I'm sorry
