>>217441205The issue with the Dance of the Dragons is that it's basically a sequence of grimdark spectacles and nothing more, there's no connective narrative tissue (literally what's the relationship between Addam and Daeron to make them face down in a climatic battle where both give their lives) because GRRM was trying to copy real history.Blackfyre Rebellion is much more interesting we learn there were both material and symbolic reasons for the conflict beyond just "they want to kill each other to sit on the iron throne" and it also lends to creating an interesting era of Cold War in Westeros where loyalties remain unclear and tense for everyone.

>>217441318>Blackfyre Rebellion is much more interestingfacts, it's actually insane how hyped i was to read more about the Dance and ended up being more interested in the Blackfyre rebellions, weird cast of characters with weird motivations and ofc Daemon Blackfyre and Brynden are my personal favorites

>>217441282he bore the sword simple as
>>217441318Honestly your second paragraph is just a bit of waffle and a proper adaptation of the Dance would’ve also explored all those things. And Aegon II’s arc is far more substantive than anything coming out of the first Blackfyre rebellion could possibly be. The relationship between Bloodraven and Bittersteel needs the full four rebellions to fully explore which is the only thing I can think of.
>>217441435>The relationship between Bloodraven and Bittersteelthat's crazy because to me that's the least interesting thing about the rebellions

>>217441456Knowing George he was probably gay and impotent
>>217441456>Aegon I is a gigachadis the most overrated king of them all, all his feats are inflated
>>217441435The real issue with the Dance is that after Aegon gets crippled, like two thirds of the war is just the lads winning every major battle offscreen, while everyone else dicks around until the climatic moments of the daemondbowl and Sunfyre's dinner.
>got music>starts to shit
>All of them. Yes, I mean it.
>>217441456Aegon I's feats are just>Balerion, GGAll his field battles were fought by Orys
>>217441435Apart from that the only thing I can think of is some of the psychology behind some of the lesser houses siding with Daemon. For instance, and this isn’t confirmed, the possibility that the Umbers rebelled against the Starks. But it all ends rather anticlimactically on Redgrass Field and the animosity between Bloodraven and Bittersteel is the only thing that carries on.

>>217441581>The seven kingdomsi'm sorry i thought we were talking about Aegon I not Daeron II my bad
>>217441591I suppose you think thats terribly clever?
>>217441435Blackfyre is the only ideological war in Westeros if you think about it, the rebellion's cause was meant to embody the spirit of chivalry as the direction Westeros would have going forward over Daeron's diplomacy and scholarship (even though he succeeded in achieving something the Conquerer never did). But it also incentivized lesser lords and secondary houses to join because it was their chance to get one over their liege lords with land and power. There's also a cautionary tale at the end because Daemon ironically lost for being too chivalrous instead of practical in his first battle. The Dance doesn't have much going for it beyond the battles themselves. The characters established in the prelude don't do much beyond sit in castles then juat die. Most of the plot is driven by literal whos who enter the plot then leave. Dragon warfare is whack and it GRRM is winging it.The whole conflict feels like it was a patchwork frankenstein of a plot based on vague passages established from the main books.

Which is not terribly interesting. He is after all a legitimised bastard rebelling against his brother who is already quite far into his rule. I disagree with you about the Dance chiefly because it is all about legitimacy, power, and succession which are far more universal bread and butter issues to explore. The entire Green usurpation of the throne, for instance, from Otto getting Alicent to Viserys’ bed to them letting Viserys’ corpse rot for a week ought to have been very interesting. But we never got that. The latter half of the Dance, from God’s Eye, Corlys’ defection, Aegon II’s restoration is just excellent dramatic procession. The relationship between the characters is just far more interesting.

Daemon and Aemond don't really much history or buildup to make the God's Eye a satisfying or cathartic climax so it's more about how over the top the fight itself is than the characterization.Corlys defects but he's more like the token good guy whose not really loyal to the Greens (hence why he's the only member of the council who got arrested but got away with everything). >>217441937Aemond is still Viserys son and, again, we shouldn’t let HOTD cloud how the build up to the Dance could’ve gone down. Plenty of potential to make it more interesting and to expand their relationship. Moreover, the relationship of the two characters is incidental to what it represents to each of the characters individually. Daemon, killing himself to save his son and daughters. Aemond his family and whatever was going on with Alys. A great catharsis. Corlys is extremely interesting. Highly ambitious but loses everything and abandons all pretensions to the throne to save his granddaughters, but still manages to scheme to come out the other end in an alright state.
