it's kino, people were probably expecting a dark new landmark in thriller/horror but looking back now it is just a fun film with a comfy 90s charm. they were also probably looking for reasons to dunk on Polanski.

Polankski is one of the all time greats. You're really missing out if you insist on not watching because he's a bad person. I'm sure you already enjoy many films made by monsters. To that end the CIA/MK Ultra/Manson family/Polanski/Tate rabbit hole is extremely deep and worth reading about.

It's not a horny movie, but it is very good and worth rewatching. I got to watch it at the theater a few months ago and had a great time, having only seen it before on youtube years back.

Wait for the 4K remaster to come out on home video/streaming, which should be very soon.

>wake up on day off
>dark, rainy day
>put on 28 Days Later, having not seen it since it came out
Movie looks like absolute shit, especially in the HD era, but it's a firm classic and a great addition to the zombie genre. Although I overall prefer slow zombies to fast zombies, I think this did a great job of creating a unique zombie scenario and executed it very well.
>follow it up with a rewatch of 28 Weeks Later
The opening scene with the cabin being attacked and Don doing everything he can to protect everyone but ultimately having to run and save himself is very, very good. The rest of the movie, I think is weaker than the first movie overall, but still enjoyable. The wife was an absolute bitch and Don continued to be the most interesting character throughout.
>then watched 28 Years Later for the first time
I don't know what to make of this. Generally entertaining, but felt like it was being too trendy with the whole survival element and going back to a more primitive era the way everything from TV shows to video games likes to do now. The zombies being depicted like a new subspecies of human... it makes sense, there's an evolution between the movies, but I don't want that. I want a zombie movie. Romero made the same mistake with Land of the Dead. Granted that it worked for The Last Man on Earth, but that was before Night of the Living Dead. Now when we see zombies, especially several sequels into a zombie franchise, we just want mindless undead zombies, not some allegory about the nature of man's evolution and the changing of eras. I don't, at least. As a side note, I haven't seen a cast this white in a modern movie in a long time, although the alpha zombie is some kind of half-breed.

I'll watch Bone Temple soon and see how that is. It makes sense that they're planning to split Years into its own trilogy, being different enough from the other movies. What do you guys think?
>>
>>217568024
Garland's writing is really the weak point in these films while Danny Boyle is a master. They all fall apart in the second half. If I could zap one person out of hollywood existence it'd be him.
>but I don't want that. I want a zombie movie
Totally, I know what you mean. Day of the Dead is cool because it essentially teases that and then withdraws it.
>I haven't seen a cast this white in a modern movie in a long time
The giga-niggas also being brownish is interesting. Haven't seen Bone Temple so I don't know if this is making a point or not.

you know what, I liked Conjuring 4. a bit long and didn't break any new ground but I was expecting something a lot worse based on word of mouth here. rare attractive+all white cast. the main weak point was the end, seemed like it was missing a demon reveal/showdown.

>I think films like this are deeply misogynistic. It’s one thing to write a story about bad things happening to women, but when a film just revels in it like this one does I think a line is crossed. It’s telling that the film devotes so much time to the graphic rape, torture, and murder of women while somehow seeking to humanize the man doing it to them. I can’t even just excuse it as a cheap shock film because the violence feels so specifically gendered that it’s disturbing to me. Like the goal wasn’t, “I want to portray the most shocking violence possible” but was actually, “I want to do all the things to women that I fantasize about.”

I always check IMDB parents guide for a movie to see how horny it is.
>2 women have sex. They kiss and perform oral on each other. They proceed to rub their vulvas together. The scene is long and graphically detailed. We see them fully naked. Their breasts, butts and vulva are fully visible.
>The two women who were having lesbian sex are seen lying fully naked in bed post coital. We get a shot looking down on them, with their completely nude bodies exposed, including shaven genitals and vulva from both of them

Just got back from Monkino. It was solid and worth throwing some cash at so we get some more new high concept horrors.
Weaker points were none of the cast was very likeable aside from the Dad and it could have used a more unique climax. But the monke delivered entirely and held the whole thing up. In fact this is maybe another negative but it's the one slasher I've seen where you genuinely feel sad for the villain.

Just finished. From the Letterboxd top 250 horror list and Severin's first All the Haunts Be Ours folk horror box. A white lawyer and the manager of a paper mill are kidnapped and lightly tortured by a native Canadian when a court case regarding protection of Indian forest territory is lost by the lawyer. It's classification as horror is entirely dependent on one element that is only hinted at near the end which is that the kidnapper is a spirit instead of a human. in practice it's just a thriller about a guy with a knife and a rifle trying to make two white guys feel bad about themselves, and if that sounds annoying to you, the movie won't do anything that will win you over. I get where the movie's coming from, and well, that's just, like, it's opinion, man.

I can’t stand Boyle’s ADD hyperkinetic action scenes. Much as John Wick has become a parody of itself, the 28 days franchise’s action scenes have simply become jittery fragments of a quarter of a frame plus screaming.

>>217592988
Somebody hasn't seen any Taken movies, lol
Boyle went so nutty with the action in Years that you can tell he's just experimenting. He's always been a "let's just try it out" kinda guy, that's why they went with the consumer DV cameras for Days to begin with. Shot, the iPhone stuff in Years mightve been why he agreed to do it.
>>
Just finished. Labelling this horror is a streeeeeetch. Watched it because I'm watching all the movies listed horror on letterboxd that a friend of mine has seen but I haven't, and this was one of them. Well animated stop motion shorts by different euro animators all with just the general theme of "home". First one a family is given a house the architect won't stop meddling with, second a flipper gets interested buyers who won't go away, third a landlord is trying to rent rooms in a home surrounded by water. These are about as horrorjsh as Fantastic Mr Fox is, but they're not bad. Shocked how high the view count is, it's something close to 300k. Getting your shit on Netflix really does guarantee people will see it.

Send Help full spoilers they crash and everyone else dies. She keeps them both alive, he treats her like shit and doesn't appreciate it. She likes the new dynamic and when she happens to see rescue boats searching for them she doesn't try to get their attention and tells him that the area she saw them in is full of poisonous plants and to stay away. He hates being dependent on her and goes so far as to try and poison her to escape on a makeshift raft. He fails and when he gets back she lightly poisons him with a paralyzing octopus and pretends like she's castrating him to scare him, and he finally falls in line. Shortly after his fiancee comes searching for him even though an official search has ended, and she bumps into the fiance first and pushes her off a cliff. Shortly after that, the fiance's body washes up on shore and the guy finds it. They have a knock down drag out fight across the island where he gouges one of her eyes out partially and she stabs him in the gut. While running during the fight he discovers an empty mansion on the other side of the island. She knew it was there the entire time and was stealing supplies from it while making it seem like she was finding food from the island. He tries killing her with a shotgun but she gets the upper hand and kills him with a golf club. Flash forward a year she's been rescued and become a celebrity after telling everyone she was the only survivor and has written a best selling book about it.
That description makes it sound a lot more action packed than it is, it's actually very romcommy except that there's no turning point where the two stop hating each other.

I actually liked it. Decent fever dreamy movie to get lost in the trippy visuals and chaos. There are some really weird changes from the game. I'm not an autistic purist about the games, so I don't mind them making changes, but having Mary involved with the cult was utterly bizarre because there was no pay off to it. I was expecting the cult to show up in the present day storyline but they never do, so why add them to Mary's backstory to begin with?

Totally agree, I think visual aesthetes who can see past the worst of the cgi will find lots to enjoy. Say what you will about Gans, he clearly put a lot of thought into all the shots because the majority of them have some stylized directorial touch.
