But I'm not sure how willing and able they are to change their society. I know their whole way of life is just one generation old, so they seem very flexible in that regard. But I don't really see these crazy psycho raiders on drugs becoming farmers and toiling in the fields. Atleast not in a few years, that's more of a generational thing. If the human presence remains on Pandora, then I can see some na'vi tribes begin modernisation. Which might or might not actually help them in the long term. Remember that a big justification for european colonialism was supposedly to uplift the natives, but the colonists actually feared nothing more than the natives actually modernizing and becoming a capable force in their own. They tried to nip that in the bud. That's why "the five civilized tribes" in the US were genocided with the trail of tears before they became too strong. Or why early industrialization among the Maori was killed off. I'm not sure the RDA would tolerate the emergence of say a Mankwan nation state that produces its own modern weapons, lays claim to vast territories on Pandora, and starts diplomatic relations with earth governments.https://wikipedia.org/wiki/Five_Civilized_Tribes
>>217589944>Also why didn’t the RDA continue to massacre the forest people when they didn’t know where Jake was? Either he’d come back to put a stop to it, or he wouldn’t but it wouldn’t matter, they killed all the stupid forest cunts who ruined their plans.Double dubs raises a good point. I'm sure that wasn't Cameron's intention, but Jake taking his family in A2 and just running away seems like a really selfish dick move. Quarritch might have a personal vendetta against Jake, but the RDA as a whole is still in a general state of war with the Omatikaya (and their other na'vi allies). As exemplified by the train raid. The Sullys running away takes zero pressure off the forest na'vi. All it does is that the chieftain is evacuating his immediate family while leaving the rest behind to fend for themselves.
>>217591880Jake ran because the Omatikaya were no longer safe from Quaritch specifically up in the mountains, and he thought Quaritch was after him. With a choice between tracking down High Camp the hard way or pursuing the fleeing Jake Sully, he hoped to keep Quaritch away from both of them.It is a pretty flimsy premise. Jim just needed an excuse to get to the whales.

>>217592018So I watched Cameron' interview with Graham Bensinger. He really was obsessed with deep sea exploration to the point that he custom builds his own craft. After the success of Titanic he took years off just to dive in trenches. Same thing after Avatar. My point is, his priorities are totally different and also his underwater obsession seems like the main reason why he did Way of Water instead of adapting High Ground. I just hope that if Cameron decides to do Avatar 4 and 5 that he focused on character interactions and concluding the character arcs that he started instead of shoehorning things that he finds fancy (whales and deep sea). Like for example: seems like Quaritch is about to switch sides after getting some Navi pussy maybe he should have a redemption arc of some sort.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZOT-MeSBPr0
>>217593011To be quite honest High Ground feels like an endgame story. Because the entire point of the story is that Jake is going to use a shuttle rigged with explosives to destroy one of the ISV Spaceships and of course it will create a space debris field around Pandora. But then again, their plan failed and it turned into a wild goose chase. So it's probably better to just rewrite the entire invasion angle. Maybe tone it down or outright just make it an expeditionary force on the other side of the continent and keep the other interesting aspects of the story like the pro-Navi humans and avatars living within Jake's territory and using Hell's Gate as a base and of course the Sulley Family dynamics.

Hello bro(tha)
>>217597598I calculated Avatar ROIFormula ROI = (Box Office − Budget) / BudgetAvatarBudget: ~$237MBox office: ~$2.92BROI: ~1,132%Once-in-a-generation phenomenon. One of the most profitable films ever made.Avatar: The Way of WaterBudget: ~$350–400M (assume ~$375M midpoint)Box office: ~$2.32BROI: ~519%Still massively profitable, but ROI dropped by more than half compared to Avatar (2009).Avatar 3 (assumed)Budget: ~$350M (likely similar to Avatar 2)Box office: ~$1.5B (assumption)ROI: ~329%Very successful in absolute terms, but continuing decline in return .Avatar’s box office remains massive, but each sequel earns less profit per dollar as budgets rise, showing clear diminishing returns. This mirrors the Star Wars sequel trilogy and Jurassic World, where every film still crossed $1B but delivered weaker ROI and declining enthusiasm. The fourth one will probably earn even less. Fifth one might earn more than third and fourth, because last movie tend to do well, but not always.
>>217591741Mangkwan will just raid and enslave other tribes and put them to work on their farms. Kinda like Atilla the Hun.
>>217597632Was it 400 million dollars for each of the sequels or 400 million for both?
>>217597632Budget never includes marketing, and the box office gross is a gross. The cinemas keep half.
>>217597705It was 400 million + marketing for bothMarketing is 2x production budget, so 400 million + (400 million x2) = 1.2 billion for both movies
I feel like they spent way less on marketing for this one desu, and if they didn't then that's crazy, cause it absolutely did not feel as well and widely marketed as 2
>>217597752Well you get an awful lot of shilling on 4chan for 800 million dollars, as evidenced by these threads existing.
>>217595129A flashback like that should have been included right here, in the movie called Fire and Ash, if they were ever gonna do it
>>217597705There may have been an unknown amount of overlap between the budgets, because they were filmed/captured together and then had separate stretches of post production. But I would guess that at most it reduced their combined budgets to around $700 mil
>>217597861Honestly the true cost is probably a real mystery, but at the end of the day, its going to be a nearly $4 Billion gross for the two movies together. Hollywood accountants are going to be busy but no way they cant make that work.
>>217597632You know what? I wish Cameron just animated all of the deleted scenes in Avatar 1 like the DMT scenes, tribal dancing, the melee duel with Tsutey and some Quaritch vs Selfridge scenes. Then release it in mid 2010s. Remember A1 multiple rerelease earned a total $170+m. Imagine a complete 4 hour edition. It could earn a billion just because of the DMT scene alone. Wanna be psychonauts would watch that shit over and over again.
I need more flashbacks of pre-rda return.
>>217598207195-200 minutes would be about where it would land with all the best deleted scenes finished. The biggest losses imo are the Dream Hunt (DMT), the festival after the hunt and Jake's fight with Tsu'tey. Also bring back Lyle's original death. The hunt and the dance festival probably woulda been an insane amount of money to finish id imagine as theyre two of the longest scenes in the entire film
>>217597632ЮThis mirrors the Star Wars sequel trilogy and Jurassic World, where every film still crossed $1B but delivered weaker ROI and declining enthusiasm. The fourth one will probably earn even less. I think Avatar case is unique and Avatar 4 won't share the faith with JW and TROS.Due to 13 years passing A1 should be put out of equation whe it comes to tracking the trend, and TWoW BO was inflated due to exact same 13 years. I reckon if not COVID and Russian war (A1 did 100 millons there) TWoW could actually get to 2.6-2.7billies (So, A1 numbers). Those two are absolute unique cases created majorly on the back of A1 success and times passed.FaA was the first sequel without any additional boost, and depends on the quality of the Avatar 4 it can easily do the same or higher numbers than FaA.Also both Jurassic World and SW trilogies had wild quality drops between installments. I think FaA didnt drop in quality, so there won't be much of bad stigma around the sequel. What i would even do as a marketer with A4 is to play on the "same" criticizm and offer as much new in A4 as possible. That would only boost the sales.
>>217598695I expect Avatar 4 could perform a bit better than Fire and Ash, because of another longer wait which builds more hype in between. There's a likelihood that if it gets made, it also gets delayed again and arrives 5 years later or more, rather than 3 years which is the Jurassic World or Transformers release cadence
I guess the movie flopping deflated the general too, lmao
Why do people portray Varang and Neyney as mommydom types when they’re both subs for their gigachad alien boyfriends?
>>217599183zoomers are emasculated wet noodles and think any kind of dangerous / competent woman by default is a dom
>>217599169There’s just not much to discuss. It’s only a 3 hour movie with a fairly simple plot.
>>217599183Varang is clearly for femdom with anyone who isn't Quaritch, and she wanted to do it to him too
>>217599202The woman who says she wants to keep someone as a slave "for her pleasure" is not exactly coded for anything else, anon.
>>217599183I thought it was a pretty known fact that Neytiri is into pretty heavy rough sex maledom with roleplaying elements
>>217599239when the movie shows her becoming squishy for a guy who just acts manly and badass and makes her drop the bullshit it kind of does, her sex slaves are probably all Mangkwan simps
It’s weird rewatching Avatar 1. Jake basically plays NTRman with Neytiri and Tsutey. It’s a pretty brutal ntr story at that. Tsutey goes from alpha male of his tribe to Jake’s bitch translator. And then Jake fucking kills him.
>>217599366>kills him I'm kind of glad that was removed from the theatrical cut. It would be fine except for how Jake stands up and literally casts a shadow over him first. Could have just knifed him without doing that
>>217599366Tsu'tey lost his loved one (neytiri's sister) and and the one with neytiri was pretty much arranged and not in either one's best interests, emotionally speaking. Lots of background info and backstory got glossed over.
>>217599521Tsu'tey literally asked for Jake to be his last shadow though, that's intentional.
>>217599218Varang is trapped into femdom by her own power structure. Before FaA the most she can get out of a man is a warm dildo who's cowering and in awe of her the whole time. Obviously this isn't what she wanted or she wouldn't have turned into a smitten schoolgirl for the first real man who gave her an excuse to not be in control.
>>217599952Quaritch spells it out pretty clearly.>That's not what you really want>And what do I really want?>What you've never had. An equal.
Neytiri fantasies about human men having their way with her. That's why she lashes out when she gets catcalled.
>>217599366This >>217599649 was A1's most glaring omission and taints Jake and Tsu'tey's mutual respect with weird cuck vibes. Tsu'tey and Neytiri never wanted each other and Tsu'tey's animosity towards Jake is based on losing the woman he loved, but the audience never gets the slightest hint of this and is left with a seeming NTR plot where Tsu'tey the Cuckold becomes Jake's fanboy once Jake gets a big enough dick (orange bird).
>>217599218>>217599952>>217599988Oona goona said in so many words in that guy's interview that she is looking for a husband to take pressure and responsibility off her, naturally it ended up being a human man and not a na'vi cuck

My favorite thing about 3 is that it felt like we’re fully into the world now. There’s no introduction montages for the new tribe/location. We can just get right into it. We have and know our main cast so we can continue storylines instead of starting them. Varang is a new character, but she fits in as though she was always there. Unfortunately, the ending doesn’t really deliver on this though. It feels like the plot and characters are in the same place they were at the end of 2, with the exception of Spider’s transformation and Ardmore (a nothing character) being dead.
>>217600904Jim really dropped the ball with Ardmore. After such a strong military character in Avatar 1, it was indefensibly terrible that he put in the lame Ardmore character. His story hinted that she would eventually play a large more interesting part in the plot that the audience waited years to see and he let everyone down on it.
started playing fop. are the DLCs worth it? can you play them after the main story or are you supposed to play them during the game?
>>217601209He originally wanted Josh Brolin for the role but he refused. Maybe he lost all interest in the character after that but it was already in the script.
>>217600068>>217599952>>217599259>>217599239>>217599218Look at this pathetic and dumb creature.
>>217600904The ending doesn't reveal enough of the immediate aftermath, probably because Quaritch needs to be "dead" until A4, but from what we've seen and knowing the concept art shows Quaritch in the mountains in his warpaint with geared up Ash Clan and human-sized RDA vehicles:>Jake&co will be re-prioritized as a threat by the RDA>they flee to a radically different climate, suggestive of how bad the persecution is>the clans Jake called together have been greatly diminished>the RDA already had a second factory ship in production and are unlikely to abandon the amrita gravy train; the RDA and tulkun + reef clans must be actively at war now>Bridgehead likely doesn't have sea defenses capable of keeping out large tulkun, and just lost virtually their entire naval power and most of their air support; Bridgehead may or may not fall like Hell's Gate did, either between films or at the start of A4>the RDA hammer may not come down until after the timeskip (8 years gives time for a reaction from Earth) or Jake&co could be hunted around the world during that time; maybe this is how we get glimpses of various biomes
Jake telling quaritch that he can still change in that glass prison of his is so funny in hindsightYeah, he did change, it's just that he personally waltzed into the only batshit insane terrorist na'vi clan there is and got turned into the co-leader, now what jakesooly.
>>217595129Someaone should make a varaang version of this
Biblical Imaginery-"Eywa" = "Yahweh", a simple reversal of the abrahmic sky daddy god.-The character name "Grace Augustine" is fully loaded with christianity. "Grace" is a specific theological state where you get right with god. Augustine was a theologian and saint.-In the third movie, one of the Ash people pokes Quaritch in his obliques with a spear, drawing a bit of blood. This is like the Lance of Longinus for Evangelion fans, or: the holy spear.-Varang's tight little horizontal binder is sometimes worn with a vertical stripe of paint or paints, clearly forming a cross.-The third film specifically makes general appeals to faith and belief, especially the opening argument between Jake and Ney (and Jake really ought to know better, since he lived the proof of his god at the climax of the first film).-In the first film, when the much larger Neytiri cradles Jake's weak human body, this pose is taken directly from the Pieta (mary cradles the dead jesus). The Michelangelo sculpture is the best known example, but it's a genre thing with other instances.-"Tulkun". The sound of this word is suspiciously close to the jewish theological concept of "tikkun". In rough strokes, the jewish/kabbalastic notion of tikkun is: the world is broken and wrong, and various troublesome things in the world (qlippoth) obstruct our clear view of reality. Therefore, we should endeavor to repair the broken world that we inhabit.-And then of course, the Na'vi are waging jihad against the occupying humans.-Jake is short for Jacob-Jacob took his brother Esau's inheritance by wearing goatskins on his arms so his father would think he was Esau-Jake literally wears his brother's Avatar and takes his place in the program-Jake Sully, the father of the tribe, taking his son Spyder out to kill him before changing his mind by a revelationYou can stretch it any way you like, but the abrahamist stuff is a major informer.

>>217589685I finally did it. I went and saw Avatar fire and Ash. I watched the original in theaters when it debuted and missed the second one. I didn't watch the second one because I was apathetic at the time, despite loving and rewatching the first one, Way of Waters departure from the forest didn't capture me like the original. I did not go to the cinema alone however. At work a new girl had been coming to the store every once in a while and she seemed to enjoy making small talk with me. She had a weird way of talking and repeated herself a lot but I assumed it was just a nervous tick or accent thing. This went on with our occasional talks for about 3 months. I had toyed around with the idea of asking her if she wanted to go somewhere but I really had no place in mind. One day she ended up telling me in passing conversation that she doesn't have her license. I asked why but she kinda skirted around it and I didn't want to push her. A few days ago I was thinking about how I could ask her out without seeming weird and I finally decided that I would see if she wanted to go watch the new Avatar movie. Perfect timing as it was about to leave my cinema and I did want to see it but the stigma of going to the movies by yourself kept me from it. The hard part was actually talking to her. I didn't know when next she would come to the store so I kinda just had to wait and hope. The next day my boss calls me and says that she needs me to cover someone tonight. I want the money so I agree. Shift goes by like normal and no sign of her the entire night. Just before I lock the door, I see her grandmas Kia pull up. I knew in my heart that there was a reason that I was called in today. On the way out I ask her if she wanted to see the movie. Success. We exchanged numbers and she does her weird repeating herself the entire time. I am ecstatic. Over the moon.
>>217606070This is the first real date I've been on in my life. We text back and forth a lot and just kinda keep small talk going in between us leading up to the next weekend, which is when I will pick her up. Day comes and everything goes off without a hitch up until I pick her up. As we are pulling out and going to a restaurant to eat before the movie she starts just dumping info on me. How old she is, who she lives with, what she does, when she works, who she spends her time with, etc. I genuinely do not mind this. Unorthodox but forthcoming. In the middle of this a niggling little thought forms in my mind however. Speaking so fast, repeating herself, her cadence. The pieces almost clicked right then and there. Right as we pull in to the parking lot she turns to me and asks if I want to know why she cant drive. A stone settles in my stomach. She hadn't brought this up for a reason surely. She told me everything but that, I turn to her and smile. I said she doesn't have to tell me if she doesn't want to but I am curious. She looked away from me for but a moment and said its embarrassing, I was about to tell her that its fine and that its not a priority that she tell me but before the words can leave my lips she interrupts. The next words out of her mouth almost made me hit the brakes while pulling into the parking spot. She said that she has a learning disability. Oh nononononono. I hadn't seen it before. Somehow everything laid before me but I couldn't piece it together. She looks normal. She acts normal. She dresses normal. It was her speech. She didn't repeat herself because she was nervous. She repeated herself because she would forget what she said moments ago and would compulsively repeat herself. I gripped the steering wheel a little hard, though I don't think she saw. What the fuck am I doing? Am I really so stupid myself that I couldn't see it before?
>>217606095She was getting out of the car and I followed her as if in a trance. For some reason I allowed her to get the door for me and let her talk to the waitress to seat us. I took a deep breath and tried to recompose my self. I realized that I hadn't really said much to her after she told me that. I went full damage control and told her that it doesn't matter and that I'm glad i could just get her out of the house. I get the conversation back on track and order the food. Take a wild guess what she ordered. I do not judge but it is exactly what you think. We eat and I kinda start understanding more of how she speaks and when she actually remembers what we are talking about. It goes by surprisingly well. She talks more about her family and I keep the convo going as the time tick by. We finish before long and an hour had already passed. The movie is about to start so I pay and we leave. As we walk in I start getting in my own head again. I wouldn't ever be rude to her but I also felt like I was being an asshole as I had no intention of continuing this type of outing again in the future due to her condition but she seemed like she was having fun. We sat down and the previews started. Cinema was empty except us when we got there but a few other couples filed in right before it started. As it began I thought back to my initial reaction.
>>217606112I was being an asshole for no reason to a girl, disabled as she may be, was letting me take her to a movie that I wanted to see. I wrapped that thought up in my head and tossed it out. The rest of the movie we laughed and had fun. Though I don't believe another outing is in our future I understood that to someone else out there, I am the disabled one that they would believe is a waste of time. I saw the Sky Na'vi. They were awesome and I enjoyed them more than the Water Na'vi. The Fire Na'vi were crazy and I think Varang was like an evil Pocahontas. The McGuffin of all the animals coming together again was kinda lame story wise, it was beautiful onscreen. Neytiri going full feral and using rpg arrows was probably my favorite part. I wish they would fuck again. Overall I loved the movie and it got me out of the house. Thanks Avatar. I would never have taken a disabled girl to the movies if not for you

>>217606126Further elaborating on my thoughts of the movie I think that they killed picrel because the memes got to them. The haircut was a bad idea. I also believe that one of the best characters was Quaritchs wing man. Comically reliable and keeps his head on straight the whole time. He is loyal to the Colonel but doesn't blindly follow him. He voices his concerns but has his back. Neytiri had her dark moments and redemption, symbolically washing the blood off her hands with the red Varang paint. I hope Quaritch and Varang stay together and he goes full terroristic native on the Sky People. Equally I hope the next movie focuses back to the Sky People and we get to see a likable human. Jake Sullys "Fuck you, I got mine" mentality is easy to see. He is morally correct in the defense of Pandora but as a Human, he is easy to hate. Traded his skin and his fellow man to play in the jungle. The afterlife scene at the end confused me a bit, I wouldnt imagine the Sea Na'vis afterlife would be some big green tree. I thought it would be the ocean or something but i guess i really don't know. Kiri as a character is really cool even though her voice throws me off. Given the timespawn involved, we can assume that the technology behind memory/mind implants used for the recom soldiers has already reached earth. Since we can easily infer that human cloning technology is already top notch (it's what let them create avatars in the first place), it is completely feasible to assume that the ultra-rich would get themselves a few clones to either deter possible assassination attempts, or to have someone they have 100% trust in run their shit while they themselves spend their time doing high end drugs, weird technological orgies or whatever else the cyberpunk elites do to enjoy their wealth

So, uh, how did Mo'at already know of a ritual to transfer Grace's consciousness to her Avatar, and then Jake's to his?She must have intuited it on the spot somehow, as the only way for it to develop naturally would be some sort of body-swapping or body-stealing rejuvenation ritual, which don't seem like Great Balance-friendly goals. Either that or they're rituals passed down from Tsahiks through Eywa going back to the first Na'vi, when their technologically advanced but biologically natural ancestors transferred their consciousness through the newly established Eywa to the carbon fiber-boned, kuru-bearing bodies that would become the Na'vi.
No wonder women love these movies.
>>217611070Eywa did it, the na'vi just helped. Just like Kiri making Spider breath pandoran air without knowing how she did it
>>217610830This dude wasn’t in two was he? Kinda weird that he just randomly comes back for 3 without any it introduction.
>>217611444Those movies are weirdly chopped. They need a fan-cut to make them into one movie.
>>217611444There are few things i'd like to see introducing in the second movie rather than third, for the sake of better feeling character arcs and pacing.>Spider's mask issue. People say he was with Quotrich so he had no problem, but come one - they were flying around Pandora a lot. You could easily sneak mask malfunction sound in a couple of times. This issue happened in FaA and was resolved in just an hour and lead to what became the massive plot. It would have been better if it has started in TWoW.>Selfridge and his "breathing on Pandora" schitck. It is connected to the above issue. He just showed up in FaA and brought up "How are we going to colonize it if we cant' breath" right after Spider became special, and it felt jarring, that it was only brought up now. If Selfridge showed up in TWoW and mentioned that problem, it would feel way more natural.>Spider and Kiri being more intimate in TWoW. People whve has intuition and understanding of movie language picked up on their romantic bits in TWoW. But most people are pretty dense so they actually thought they are just a hardcore friends. Jimbo could have sneaked at least one moment at the start (before they got separated) like the one with Tulkun interrupting their obvious incoming kiss. Just made it with Ikran showing up you know.
>>217611070I prefer when Kuru magic requires a Tsahik and a hundreds of Navi doing ritual chants and dance. Now Kiri just uses her OP powers to control plants and wild life like its nothing.
I think FaA got way more interest from people than A1 and TWoW.Amount of fan art its release spawned is way bigger than what i saw for TWoW at the very least.

>>217615609LMAO. Now this scene makes sense...>>217615695True but maybe they have a new tech to hasten the growth process. Anyway.
