Wicker Man which is basically the same concept works because the horror stays grounded on the guy being trapped with the killer cult. Midsommar isn't about a Swedish cult that sacrifices people. Midsommar is about a 4/10 roastie trying to process her grief and trauma and feeling lost and alone in the world. It's just not scary.
