The Targaryens rule an entire continent, but they are not compared to the likes of the Roman Empire of Chinese dynasties given the Westeros does not have the centralisation/bureaucracy or culture for it. I understand Egg's wanting to do reform for the smallfolk and maybe he would have had a better time at it without his children, but if Egg was going to antagonise the nobility over anything then, if this is even possible, for him to try to develop some level of actual bureaucracy. It is said that the reforms done by Egg go undone during Aerys II which shows how institutionally they were not embedded.

And that doesn't even make sense logically, since no knight, especially a prestigious one like him, would let their armor get rusty or just walk around that dirty. The gloves look too thin, the belt looks flimsy and like some shit from a cheap store. The design of the torso armor and the helmets is alright, but the shoulder pauldrons look flimsy and not connected to anything. Why couldn't they give him a full suit of armor? The actor wasn't right for the part, either. The swords look unremarkable. Everything looks SO cheap. And Ned's line "No. This is where it ends" or whatever it was, are you fucking kidding me...terrible. Season 5 was plain bad compared to 1&2, and 4 had already been a noticeable downgrade. The worst part about all the season 8 hate was that all the braindead retards were apparently fine with everything up until that point.
