Is the movie Caligula really THAT bad?
>>217933698yes its really that bad
>>217933607It's sad that all the expanded universe stuff with Starfleet Academy is tarnished now. But I suppose that was done on purpose.

Just started watching Discovery again. I dropped it after the first 2 episodes but I'm picking it back up because it looks like Kurtzmann Trek is going to be Trek going forward and I might as well catch up to it so I can actually know what people talk about at cons. Is Lorca the only good thing about this show? I know he gets replaced later but so far he's the only character who seems to have any depth.

>>217934345One thing I wonder about now is whether STD was the big blue flag that writers of fantasy and sci-fi truly hate dealing with scale and travel times. After STD came out with the instantaneous spore drive travel I feel like every series just stopped caring about how long it took for characters to travel to different and new locations, and they would just throw in big scene changes between locations and environments willy-nilly. It was worst in GOT but I don't think we've ever gone back to>Oh it will take us 6 hours to get to this location>Oh this episode is all about traveling between two pivotal events

>>217936402>SA was frontloaded and the first five episodes were the GOOD half.gonna be a WILD ride then
>>217933544It’s honestly hard to ignore at this point that /trek/ looks botted as hell. The same threads sit there forever, reply counts jump in weird bursts at dead hours, and half the posts read like slightly reworded copies of each other. You’ll see identical phrasing, the same arguments looping every few pages, and accounts that only ever show up to bump the same general. Organic discussion doesn’t behave like that. Real threads spike when something happens and then cool off. /trek/ just hums along mechanically, like it’s hooked up to a life support system. Dukat did nothing wrong aside from perhaps being too lenient with the Bajoran terrorists, and except when he accidentally got himself stuck on the station while the boobytraps were going off, and then when he tried to screw over a rival politician by separating that politician from his son, but then he accidentally left a trail of clues and Garak caught him, and maybe that one time he accidentally got that chick pregnant and didn't abort, and when his whole life was ruined when he forgot that the Prophets were omnipotent beings inside the wormhole, and one time he tried to convince Sisko that he was perfectly sane, and went about this task by talking to imaginary tulpas, also the whole becoming Space Satan thing might have been ill advised, and of course all the times when he cheated on his wife, and when he had to perform dishonest tricks on women (including Mama Major) to get them to sleep with him, and IMO when he tried to cheat in a game of kalevian montar with Odo.

Any Star Trek episodes about oldfag circlejerks?
>>217933544I enjoyed the last episode, in fact I been somewhat angry I am not hating the show as much as I thought I would.Pic related also helps as only one who can act.
I decided to give STO a try since there was some talk about it in /trek/. I know it has some sort of content related to DS9, so I'm chiefly interested in that, as well as some other continuations. Chat is full of know-nothing know-it-all reddit midwits, but that's easily remedied by just closing the tab. Other than that, it's fine so far. With a starship, you can go anywhere you want.
>>217941528>gaiafagof courseit all fits togetheri can't hate though i also play a 20yo MMO that has no right to exist anymoreGW1

>>217934459JJ said "fuck it" even before std by having Scotty beam kirk and himself onto a starship that had been traveling away at warp speed for multiple days. Which is typical JJ cause his entire career is ignoring whatever he chooses story wise if it means doing something "cool"
Just watched the DS9 season 1 episode where Curzon's old lover tells Jadzia to live a long life. Oops.
>>217941359Waltz still literally makes no sense to me.>I should have killed all the Bajorans!!>*sisko hits Dukat with a pipe, knocking him unconscious* and that is why you are not an evil man (waaaow shades of grey amiright?)>*5 minutes later*>Like did the network get snippy and the script editor add a disclaimer at the end or what

How and why is BF so controversial?
>>217941784she's not. but, for some reason she's be super active in the past couple weeks compared to the almost a year I've been in /trek/. which is fine because the thread is fucking garbage due to newfags anyway. it's all so entertaining.

>>217941867I like DS9 for its characters, not the space mall it takes place on, to be honest. I prefer to be out and about, exploring the galaxy.
>>217941939sisko is also the one who suggested dukat should've killed every single bajoran, do you think that was intended to be understood as his real thoughts at that moment? he spends a good chunk of the episode deliberately playing along with dukat's delusions because he's injured and dukat is liable to kill him.
>>217942014That sentence does little to explain the reason why a line delivered without any sarcasm or irony should simply be accepted as sarcastic because of a later scene, when literally anything else (including not speaking at all) would drive the point deeper
>>217942013I have decided that the E is definitively ugly
>>217941996i believe they weremarvel lost the comic license around 1998, when insurrection would've come out, and they didn't have trek comics back until wildstorm in 2000 - which was also lost by 2002, when nemesis would've come outthen there was a long ass time before IDW got the license, 2007 or so
>>217942053Dukat is unconscious when he says it. That’s why it’s so odd. It’s clearly not delivered with the same intentions as his earlier sarcastic remarks about killing them all

HOLY FUCK! Can't believe this week's episode was actually great with minimal awful dialogue/cringe scenes. Even that origami chicken fucker wasn't as obnoxious as last time and actually made everything better! Can't wait for the podcast dumbasses that gave last week's episode a 10/10 to also give this total mirror opposite of an actually good and seriously told story the same rating...

>>217942279>makes no sense. If you're fucking retardedyes, glad you understand finally. thank you.
>>217942279It makes perfect sense if you actually watch the show. Dukat has a scene with Weyoun where he says you don't kill an enemy until they acknowledge your greatness, or until it becomes absolutely necessary. Dukat didn't kill as many Bajorans as he could have due to his ego. He then admits in the episode that he shouldn't have even bothered trying to earn their gratitude, and that he should have killed them all in the first place, which is a definitely evil statement.Genuinely; are you trolling, or are you actually this autistic?
>>217942361he hasn't been so far. and i figured this show would release like 2 episodes per year or whatever. it makes sense that they don't wanna pay Paul Giamatti to actually be in it alot though.

NEW>>217942461>>217942461>>217942461
>>217942377How does wanting people to like you (and not killing them because of that) make you absolute evil? Isn’t that just how everyone is? You’re focusing on the wrong part. Sisko’s declaration to Dax is the problem. There hasn’t been anything in the episode to warrant that statement, even compared to things Dukat has said or done in earlier episodes. But there is build up in the episode to warrant a statement that Dukat /isnt/ le Hitler and just a simple man. Which would line up with him saying he isn’t /evil/. The last line of the episode is out of place.
