Only God Forgives was great. Confused why this movie got ragged so hard. The thai cop is an excellent character. Suspect some of the hate this movie got was because it dared to have an old brown guy mog Ryan Gosling. Only silliness was the overuse of long pauses during dialogue which seemed like Refn doing a poor Lynch impersonation.

>Emerald Fennell continues her soft-core feminism.
>Lewd-looking Margot Robbie spoils the joke in Emerald Fennell’s adaptation of Wuthering Heights. As the heroine from Emily Brontë’s 1847 novel, 36-year-old Robbie plays the landowner’s maidenly daughter, Catherine Earnshaw. Merle Oberon was 28 when she played the role in William Wyler’s 1939 version, but Robbie seems to have already traveled far beyond the moors; her appearance of experienced sex-pot aggression obliterates Brontë’s notion of innocent passion.
>Robbie embodies Fennell’s idea of Cathy as a liberated feminist. (She “walks in her power,” as a man-hungry divorcée was described in the TV soap opera Beyond the Gates.) And Elordi essentially repeats another heartthrob role, just as in Fennell’s noxious Saltburn, complete with a sadomasochist striptease that features the welts across his back, in one of the overheated “erotic” love scenes.
>Fennell’s filmmaking seeks to be controversial, taking an outré approach that limits characters to sexual identity. This vulgarizes the romanticism that made the title Wuthering Heights synonymous with emotional intensity.
>But this isn’t a movie about the supernatural or doomed romance; it is itself an example of our doomed, hypersexualized cultural perversions — in period drag.
>Fennell capitalizes on feminist cynicism but possesses a sham sensibility, borrowing art-movie effects from Liliana Cavani’s The Night Porter, Catherine Breillat’s Bluebeard, and Derek Jarman’s The Last of England, mixing styles so erratically that the result suggests soft-core Baz Luhrmann smut. Fennell’s fetishes ignore that Brontë’s vision was provocative enough to inspire Kate Bush’s neo-romanticism, Camille Paglia’s androgyne thesis in Sexual Personae, Morrissey’s “Heaven doesn’t seem to be my home” lyric, and the Twilight vampire series.

This year's Berlinale is clearly a blatant failure just from a single look at the lineup. Honestly it's such a shitty lineup they might as well close down the festival forever, it's humiliating. IFFR was a bore with no cinema futuro this year. Sundance flopped. Berlinale flopped. 2026 is going to be the worst year in history for cinema. It's over.

i liked the previous one more or less, it's basically modern Donny Darko, in a sense that it's a movie not as much about the obvious themes it presents but more about itself, as a representation of a certain type of juvenile thinking and aesthetic interest
i didn't mind World's Fair either, the digital visuals are neat, but there is way too much awkwardness to it, in I Saw the TV Glow that is mostly relegated to the main character's performance, and it makes sense if you actually seen that type of autist IRL, but in World's Fair it pierces the whole movie, also doesn't help that i have zero fucking clue what is the movie about, i can't come up even with slightest of interpretation, internet grooming maybe, but if anything the teenage girl was the one grooming an old autist man into some weird ARG, which is the opposite of what usually people talk about when mentioning grooming

What's wrong with it?
I guess they got two Ira Sachs movies in there for some reason. Not sure why they're releasing Peter Hujar's Day, it didn't get raves and Sentimental Vue is already the obligatory recently released movie. I will say, I am actually looking forward to watching Peter Hujar's Day cause Ira Sach's is in fact at his best in small dialogue oriented hangout movies, and I like that's it's very short, like 78 minutes. I enjoy these kind of compact movies.

How important do you think actors are to a good film?

In fact if we were to breakdown film into: acting, cinematography and writing what would you say are the most important aspects?

I always used to think
>writing (45%)
>cinematography (35%)
>Acting (20%)

But now i'm realising that actually acting might be the most important thing
>>
>>217958364
it depends. if we're dealing with a romance movie like the one you posted then the chemistry between the leads is insanely important
