This year I might drunkenly commit to spending like $500 to $1000 for a descent uniform, even if it is only worn on halloween. I have been thinking about it a lot recently.
>>

I'd spent the cash on a decent pin and maybe some pips, and try and buy some trek-themed clothes you can wear casually when you don't have the pin or pips tacked on

I'm just thinking the marketing guys jumped the gun. You've got Foreign Wunderkind and Military Brat and they're trying to set up some sort of rivalry/potential romantic tension I guess but since success in school is rarely a zero sum game it just seems like they're actually living that Roddenberry concept of no real interpersonal conflict. At best it seems like sibling rivalry.
The description of a Deltan hookup absolutely would give Gene a boner in his grave.

Exactly. He was an "a-hole" for exactly one episode and then he was just ausbro. That's not a development that's just a continuity change.

>>
>>217942698
I get the feeling that they needed to make everyone more rebellious and bad in the pilot script to get greenlit and then once they started actually writing the season they had them act like how actual federation Starfleet people would act, namely mostly harmonious with a little grumbling at best.
I feel the same thing happened with the Orville when they ratcheted down the boner comedy as soon as the suits were out of their hair

That's probably because Kurtzman personally inserts himself into the bookends. My prediction is that season openers and closers will have characters revert to their asshole selves and then the mid seasons will have them acting rationally, unless the writers convince Kurtzman that there's been progress

This episode has the structure of a good Star Trek episode but it's buried in NuTrek crap and terrible Kurtzman shit. The whispering granny, the dumb fucking commbadge eater, the "deaf Betazoid dad" (lol), everybody talking like a zoomer which gives the show a "hello my fellow kids" feel.

But Paul Giamatti was great in this episode. You can also see the fact that he really loves Gul Dukat here in the way he plays his character. Honestly, he's so good in this episode that his scenes might as well be from another show entirely. They're actually jarring against the rest of the shit happening.

Still ultimately cancer with the visual style, most of the acting, most of the writing, the jump cuts, but if you want to dig through all the trash, you can at least find the skeleton of decent Star Trek in this one.

>Is there anything Star Trek could put out that would make you not watch it?
I despite and could not finish STD. PIC was self indulgent trash. I don't think highly of Voyager and only like a few episodes. There are maybe two episodes of ENT I enjoy. Carbon Creek and the Andorian Incident are probably the ones.
So now to the meat and bones question:
>Can I ask you a serious question. Why are you watching this? Brand loyalty?
I like Paul Giamatti and think Tawny Newsome is funny on Comedy Bang Bang, and wanted to see Paul Giamatti ham it up and see Newsome's writing. I normally don't care for "the youth" spinoffs, cf. Gen V, but I have enjoyed what I saw so far.
I also like SNW so I don't expect you to agree with my tastes, but my primary objective in my television is entertainment and I will only watch something if I'm entertained. STD was absolute dogshit and any potential it had was flushed down the shitter when Fuller left.

What? They're the same ship. The First Contact Enterprise-E doesn't look like that. It doesn't have 2 blue impulse drives on each side of the saucer, it has 1 red impulse drive like the Insurrection E.

I was replying to the post about which toy I'd get - I'd get either the one released for First Contact or Insurrection
>>
>>217944820
>what are you?
I contain legions. I didn't like Enterprise because I didn't like the Suliban plot nor did I enjoy the attempt to shoehorn in Borg and Ferengi. All the characters were great (yes even Mayweather), but I couldn't get behind Suliban or Time War shit. Great actors otherwise.

Yes. You're entertained by giant robot harem anime. I won't yuck your yum and you're not going to yuck mine. My jimmies are made of the most unrustlable tritanium.
>>
>>217944864
Carbon Creek by itself justifies ENT's existence and damns NuTrek to fiery torment.
>>
>>217944852
The initial First Contact toy produced was likely based on concept art and not the final film version, hence the difference to the actual movie

First Contact toy wasn't screen accurate, many such cases. Licensed merchandise production pipelines often have them working off of concepts that are eventually changed for the final production, leading to merch that doesn't match the film/show/whatever.

thinking this is somehow nailing the concept of a vulcan just makes you a massive fucking retard though anon. Sure, a vulcan such as Tuvok might be like that, but the fact that plenty of other vulcans do express amusement regularly means that is in fact the norm for them, dipshit.

I know who Chris Chan is. Fun fact: Wes Iseli, who dated Chris's oneitis and was written in as "the Magician," has performed as my child's school. But it is not Trek, nor is it the most infamous Mary Sue (the two most of course being the actual Mary Sue Trek fic, and the second being Eugene WESLEY Roddenberry's insert) so you will find that I assumed the unrelated picture was trip retardation. And we only accept one trip in /trek/.
>>
>hates tripfag attention whores
>blogposts anyway
What causes this?
>>
>>217945053
i wouldn't consider wes to be a GARY stu self insert, as he was nothing like gene and only shared a namesake, and gene was the literal creator of star trek, making it quite literally impossible for him to create mary or gary stu characters simply by virtue of him being the creator and not someone writing fanfic. even ignoring that fact, wes doesnt even fit the definition - everyone cant stand him, he gets someone killed, and he flunks out of college
>>
>>217945047
>this species suppresses all of their emotions
It's not that they suppress them blindly. They understand the emotions are ephemeral, mercurial and will fuck shit up most of the time. So they COMPARTMENTALIZE them. Sometimes it IS logical to express them. >>217945093
>everyone cant stand him, he gets someone killed, and he flunks out of college

If Vulcans were literally unfeeling beings, they would not have such things are art or science, they'd be as culturally dead as the Borg

The only Vulcans even close to that are a minority of real freaks, the one who undergo Kollinar or whatever it was called which is basically becoming a monk. And then it's only a sign of (supposed) perfect control.
