The thing about cutting the Kettleblacks (and Moonboy for all I know) is as the books had been suspended their absence in the, abridged, TV story isn't noticed. However if the full story had been laid out from the start and the clear fact they all work for Baelish who is running 27 15D schemes at all times, and isn't just ending up pleading "Shansha", means that they should have a greater role in the overarching plot. It is official canon from the books that the Nights Watch used to build the wall up taller every generation in the past, but the knowledge (and magic?) how to do that has long been lost by Jon's time. We also know from Grrm interviews etc. that he did not actually imagine it as tall as wgatever official hight he gave it. In the books a man standing on top of the wall can make out the face of someone standing beneath it for example.
