The latest episode of Academy was the one time it was actually good. Very introspective and close look at 2 characters who didn't get much screentime earlier in the show and it has a lot of very Trek-like moments, like the wormhole to the wedding and the use of the phaser to freeze the warp slug's goop. I really enjoyed the way it just let the characters breathe and be sciencey when they needed it, like when they hacked into the bridge or when they had Jay-Den affirm Darem's life choices and connect him to Starfleet.

Someone I really respected told me a hard truth today: The reason why Alex keeps getting his contract renewed is that Paramount has run the numbers. More people watched Discovery, Picard, SNW, Lower Decks, Prodigy, and Academy, and bought the merchandise or books based on it, than would've bought a DS9/VOY/ENT Blu-ray remake. He's a success, and has had more season and series on Star Trek than Gene Roddenberry and brought in more money than CBS ever got from the TOS and TNG remasters.
