The latest episode of Academy was the one time it was actually good. Very introspective and close look at 2 characters who didn't get much screentime earlier in the show and it has a lot of very Trek-like moments, like the wormhole to the wedding and the use of the phaser to freeze the warp slug's goop. I really enjoyed the way it just let the characters breathe and be sciencey when they needed it, like when they hacked into the bridge or when they had Jay-Den affirm Darem's life choices and connect him to Starfleet.
>>
How come captains of starfleet are always humen

I've been rewatching a lot of Trek lately and when I saw someone with ashes on their forehead on Ash Wednesday for like .1 second I had a thought that was like

Someone I really respected told me a hard truth today: The reason why Alex keeps getting his contract renewed is that Paramount has run the numbers. More people watched Discovery, Picard, SNW, Lower Decks, Prodigy, and Academy, and bought the merchandise or books based on it, than would've bought a DS9/VOY/ENT Blu-ray remake. He's a success, and has had more season and series on Star Trek than Gene Roddenberry and brought in more money than CBS ever got from the TOS and TNG remasters.

Well like, there’s only a few ways carbon atoms will coalesce into life. So on every planet life starts similarly, and so then perhaps humanoid is the most optimal form for the development of a brain capable of producing language and culture — and naturally any race that has those things would also have the optimal form for producing them.

I am tired of sexual identity politics being the center stage while nobody talks about wealth inequality.
>>
>>218101054
Wealth inequality is a fake issue made by NGOs to bilk capital from governmental apparatus in places where the quality of life for the average person is that of a Greek king. Psychologists have found humans literally determine their quality of living through comparison so the actual solution to wealth inequality is to stop looking at rich people’s instagrams.

Are there "wealthy" people in the Federation?
There's plenty of rich people outside of it, Ferengi like to own their own moons when they reach a certain level of wealth, but inside the Federation? Is Sisko's father rich because he owns property? Does he own it, or lease it for 99 years? Picard's family has a whole damned vineyard, that's got to be worth something, but how when there's no currency unit to judge value by? What is Earth's population? I know humanity got whittled down to a low number by WW3 and the Eugenics Wars but that was like 200 years ago by the time of TNG/DS9/VOY. Earth's population should have easily rebounded to several billion by that point, and with replicator tech you could support 10+ billion easily since you don't NEED farmland to feed them.

His first love fucked him but refused to complete the mating ritual. Didn't even mention he was pregnant. Then showed up years later with a kid he never had a chance to bond with. Then gets killed by Duras. The same Duras he was pressured to eat a discommendation for.
This kid evokes nothing but bad memories, humiliation, and shame, and he never bonded with him as an infant.

The idea here was going back to tunics and tights for men. Something roddenbury thought would happen, fashion being cyclical. It was dropped because it's fucking gay.
>>
>>218106131
I thought it was supposed to demonstrate gender egalitarianism
>>
>>218106131
no the idea was to have a unisex skant uniform inspired by the skirt ones from TOS that only the women wore. it had nothing to do with tunics or tights. the ones they designed for TOS were just fucking ugly and looked like some kind of shitty cheerleader garb. they used the skant type design for the dress uniforms and just added pants so they wouldn't look as stupid.

>>218106229
sorry I meant "designed for TNG"

Worf protests wearing the the dress uniform and Riker calls him a sexist chud. So even in-universe it was silly.

Captains Log
Star date 51408.6
Ive been aboard the Honchu for two days now and I still haven't spoken to him.
Although the doctors have assured me that hes made a full recovery, maybe that's what I'm afraid of.
Maybe I'd prefer to think of him as a crazy man...
...a broken man...
...he'd be less dangerous that way....
As terrible as it sounds, there's a part of me that wishes he were dead.
But that's a thought unworthy of a star fleet officer.
He lost an empire...
He lost his daughter...
And he nearly lost his mind...
Whatever his crimes, isn't that enough punishment for one lifetime?

>Through his father, Siddig is the nephew to Sadiq al-Mahdi, Prime Minister of Sudan during 1966–1967 and 1986–1989, and the filmmaker, poet and painter Hussein Shariffe.[1][8] Siddig is the great-great-grandson of Muhammad Ahmad, a Nubian religious leader and founder of the Mahdist State who was proclaimed the Mahdi by his disciples
