Maybe as a tldr for those who don't know: Grrm was actually a science fiction author for most of his professional career. If you go by number of titels, most of his works are scifi/superheros/postapocalypse. It was only in his old age that he decided to write some fantasy for a change, and that suddenly made him rich and famous. Much of his scifi work is set in a universe he created called The 1000 Worlds. Grrm promised to finally reveal the deep lore of that world with a big novel titled Avalon. But he failed to write the book and then abandoned the universe, just like he now failed to write TWoW and has abandoned Westeros. So Gurrm is a DOUBLE failure of an author. Several of his 1000W stories feature human planets that have been cut off from space travel and have declined to a pseudo-medieval level with knights and stuff. So there's the fan theory that Planetos is just one of the 1000W. Saying this will get you associated with a controversial youtuber named Preston Jacobs however. A very short but cool story like this is "Dark, dark were the tunnels". You can find a pdf via google. Gurrm later wrote a very similar, spooky story called "In the House of the Worm".
