However, Tyrion's rape of Tysha is written as a horrific event that still traumatizes Tyrion almost twenty years later, is ultimately caused by Tywin, who is one of the most ruthless characters in the entire series, and Tyrion, while sympathetic, is a very morally gray character who does many bad things. I don't actually have any strong opinions about whether Tyrion was complicit in Tysha's rape. I just think it's silly to use that scene as an example of GRRM excusing or downplaying rape when the scene is portrayed as such an extreme event.
