Vampire Hunter D and it's sequel Bloodlust are gothic kino.
I also recommend the two Junji Ito anime series Maniac and Collection. They're low quality art compared to his manga obviously but have all the fun stories. They're anthology shows.

If you could have any horror story made into a film, what would it be? Remakes acceptable. For me, it would be “The Haunting of Hill House.” The original is good but it fails to fully capture the story, and the series didn’t even try.
>>
>>218827106
>we have Dark Universe at home
>>
>>218826840
I think it got a directors cut that changed people's minds from the theatrical version.
Plus, the blasphemy of divergent remakes wears off over time and people look at them differently.
Can't vouch for that though, only saw it once back in the day.

I marathoned Scream 7 today.

Neve is still hot as fuck, too bad she doesn't have hairy arms anymore. Seems to have some serious bra padding or huge fake tits though.

Erotica, beauty, nudity etc are part of film because it's a visual media, even more so horror which deals with extremes.

I read a lot of horror books so I have dozens but I'll just say a newer book called Helloween.
>On October 31st, 2001, five teens set out to make a horror film for a school project at a Halloween haunt in the small town of Crooks Corner.
>When all hell breaks loose, a powerful entity emerges, able to control inanimate objects and use them to kill. The carnage is swift and deadly, a vicious attack that quickly overwhelms the town and its citizens.
>Fighting for their lives, the teens - along with their teachers and the local sheriff - must use all of their skills and wit to survive the night and possibly even save the world.
>...Or die trying.

>>218824990

Many years ago, in rural Iowa, I was a little kid sitting in the car in the parking lot with grandma while mom went into the store to shop for a few minutes. With nothing else to talk about, I launched into describing all the cool gremlins in Gremlins 2. This disturbed grandma (I don't know if it was the tranny gremlin specifically, or just my delighted, spergy, overall description of the various monsters), but once it was clear to me that she was disturbed, I stopped.

On another occasion, mom, grandma and I went to see Back to the Future 2, in the theater. Right around the point where Biff throws the kid's ball on a roof, grandma was all Nope, and just really not liking it. She didn't seem to understand or care that the character was going to get his comeuppance. I REALLY wanted to finish the movie, but grandma was upset, and that was the controlling thing. I don't remember exactly how it went down, but between mom and me, we sensed we just needed to leave, and at the least, I didn't object. I may have suggested leaving myself around that point.

I love grandma very much, but she could be a bit of a drag sometimes.

To get into the nitty gritty of the novel
the objects are being possessed by interdimensional beings that are lead by Geth.
Geth is basically a collection of these things that came together into one being and formed a consciousness. Upon entering into our reality he decapitates a man and posseses his body, using a jack-o-lantern as the head and calling itself Geth The Great Pumpkin. It then gathers the townsfolk in the church and declares that it will grant mercy to the town in exchange for obedience. It seeks not to kill all of us but to basically rule the world as a God, starting in the town of Crook's Corner. It could kill everyone if it wished but it would rather rule than destroy and it's initial slaughter is more just a show of force to get the town to submit.
Probably not hard to guess but they end up being able to defeat it by exploiting its own ego and desire for followers and power.

It's not an incredible book but it's a fun Stephen King esque horror romp. Would probably work better as a limited series over a movie due to the sheer length of it but you could also cut a lot to make it feature length.
>>
>>218838492

Possession is worse for having cast Isabelle Adjani in it. She's too attractive and it removes any discomfort or horror since a big part of the movie is supposed to be her being a psycho, but like... I just watch it and unquestionably think 'would' no matter what she does. Maybe that's supposed to be some of the horror, but it's not like "omg, I still would even against my better judgement", instead it's a well informed "it would be worth it" feeling.

Just finished. It's repetitive and dull but I kind of loved it. Pixieish Canadian girl enters a sleep study that it turns out is videotaping dreams and dreams might be a portal to some awful dimension.. It's like Altered States but they keep seeing.stuff from Hellraiser 2. The lead elfin type girl seemed super familiar to me but apparently the only movie I've seen her in she was a teenager getting groomed by Kristin Stewart. She has the perfect look for this kind of movie. The music does a lot of heavy lifting which is worth mentioning since the director made it. I thought it was kind of romantic. Definitely a conscious tribute to Cronenberg.

A person's character can be explained in many ways; there is the noble savage archetype, the worship of anthropomorphic deities of ancient history, and the depiction of ugly lust. These are all very human things. You think in one direction and that's cool, because you were probably raised on pleb shit, but you did not read Bram Stoker's Dracula. And stop quoting Coppola because his rendition was similar, just more whiny
>>
>>218848773

>And stop quoting Coppola because his rendition was similar, just more whiny
nta, but I have to agree with him. Coppola's Dracula was way more interesting than Bram Stoker's original. Book Dracula felt just like a threatening force of nature with no real back story or motivation (in comparison). And I guess that's ok. It doesn' make for a compelling villian though.
I don't want to shit talk Bram Stoker, but the book was a mixed bag for me. The first part with Jonathan in the count's castle was great gothic horror. The rest of the book was just meh.

What about the masters of horror series? It shows what capable directors can make with a "small" budget and limited screen time. Some episodes are good, some are bad and some are really great.
Or horror movies that originally started as a horror shorts. Like Oculus for example.
Another good source of inspiration might be some short stories by Lovecraft. Reading some them made me realize just how much he influenced horror movies in general.
Or some anthology movies like the V/H/S series, cat's eye or two evil eyes. They might also be a source for some decent horror shorts.
Good luck with your short.

It’s time to feed the baby.

A cruel circus owner beats and abuses his pregnant wife. One day the circus receives a leopard newly captured in Africa, but the animal soon dies. However, an evil creature that was inside the leopard bursts out of the animal’s body, burrows into the wife’s body and takes over her fetus. It soon starts demanding blood, and the woman goes searching for victims for her new “baby.”

Lmao, Do Not Enter was pretty bad. Laughably so at many times because of the PS4 cgi. But idk I've hated other movies a lot more, this was more a turn your brain off slop film.
Asian chick was hot though, she's gonna be the next Kitana.

Just finished. I tend to only watch stuff like this after a good while, if it develops a persistent reputation. This was very, very typical and uninteresting. Neat location but pretty much nothing else going for it. 1.5 out of 5.

Same, I do not get what all of the hype is about. Sometimes I wonder if people are getting it confused with picrel
