>>218827106>we have Dark Universe at home
>>218826840I think it got a directors cut that changed people's minds from the theatrical version. Plus, the blasphemy of divergent remakes wears off over time and people look at them differently. Can't vouch for that though, only saw it once back in the day.

>>218824990Many years ago, in rural Iowa, I was a little kid sitting in the car in the parking lot with grandma while mom went into the store to shop for a few minutes. With nothing else to talk about, I launched into describing all the cool gremlins in Gremlins 2. This disturbed grandma (I don't know if it was the tranny gremlin specifically, or just my delighted, spergy, overall description of the various monsters), but once it was clear to me that she was disturbed, I stopped. On another occasion, mom, grandma and I went to see Back to the Future 2, in the theater. Right around the point where Biff throws the kid's ball on a roof, grandma was all Nope, and just really not liking it. She didn't seem to understand or care that the character was going to get his comeuppance. I REALLY wanted to finish the movie, but grandma was upset, and that was the controlling thing. I don't remember exactly how it went down, but between mom and me, we sensed we just needed to leave, and at the least, I didn't object. I may have suggested leaving myself around that point.I love grandma very much, but she could be a bit of a drag sometimes.

>>218837601>>218837306not only can it control things it can make them real so there's a pretty awesome scene early on where a kid trick or treating uses his toy gun to "shoot" a woman only the gun turns real and blows her head off
>>218837650Only issue is it sounds godlike and invisible which is hard to pull off in a movie. But Final Destination did it I guess.
>>218838167To get into the nitty gritty of the novelthe objects are being possessed by interdimensional beings that are lead by Geth.Geth is basically a collection of these things that came together into one being and formed a consciousness. Upon entering into our reality he decapitates a man and posseses his body, using a jack-o-lantern as the head and calling itself Geth The Great Pumpkin. It then gathers the townsfolk in the church and declares that it will grant mercy to the town in exchange for obedience. It seeks not to kill all of us but to basically rule the world as a God, starting in the town of Crook's Corner. It could kill everyone if it wished but it would rather rule than destroy and it's initial slaughter is more just a show of force to get the town to submit.Probably not hard to guess but they end up being able to defeat it by exploiting its own ego and desire for followers and power. It's not an incredible book but it's a fun Stephen King esque horror romp. Would probably work better as a limited series over a movie due to the sheer length of it but you could also cut a lot to make it feature length.
>>218838492I see, yeah does have a Storm of the Century approach.I love a good pumpkinhead as well, needs to watch that RL Stine one that came out since it's getting a sequel

Possession is worse for having cast Isabelle Adjani in it. She's too attractive and it removes any discomfort or horror since a big part of the movie is supposed to be her being a psycho, but like... I just watch it and unquestionably think 'would' no matter what she does. Maybe that's supposed to be some of the horror, but it's not like "omg, I still would even against my better judgement", instead it's a well informed "it would be worth it" feeling.
>>218840576The theme of the movie is bad relationships and your gf/bf not measuring up to your ideal version of them

Just finished. It's repetitive and dull but I kind of loved it. Pixieish Canadian girl enters a sleep study that it turns out is videotaping dreams and dreams might be a portal to some awful dimension.. It's like Altered States but they keep seeing.stuff from Hellraiser 2. The lead elfin type girl seemed super familiar to me but apparently the only movie I've seen her in she was a teenager getting groomed by Kristin Stewart. She has the perfect look for this kind of movie. The music does a lot of heavy lifting which is worth mentioning since the director made it. I thought it was kind of romantic. These are all very human things. You think in one direction and that's cool, because you were probably raised on pleb shit, but you did not read Bram Stoker's Dracula. And stop quoting Coppola because his rendition was similar, just more whiny
>>218848773>if a character is not showing le quirk chungus personality just like le me they are not being characterized I am so sick of nu horror fans and this will only get worse.
>>218848862>And stop quoting Coppola because his rendition was similar, just more whinynta, but I have to agree with him. Coppola's Dracula was way more interesting than Bram Stoker's original. Book Dracula felt just like a threatening force of nature with no real back story or motivation (in comparison). And I guess that's ok. It doesn' make for a compelling villian though.I don't want to shit talk Bram Stoker, but the book was a mixed bag for me. The first part with Jonathan in the count's castle was great gothic horror. The rest of the book was just meh.

>>218861630oh and also there was Meat Kills, no bonus points but it fits the bill
I hope the new Ready or Not has better kills. It's ridiculous 95% of all the main characters essentially only die at the last minute, everything else is just the random helpBut at least the ending is kino
>>218860923I thought the visuals were great. The culmination of the super8 aesthetic he had been driving at worked for all the dream aesthetics.
>>218846304I hate this fucking movie so much.
horror aficionados, explain the joke to me. she said they should all stick together and when david cross picked out the white characters leaving the other three behind, they still get upset?? I thought that is what she wanted by sticking together?
>>218839335>What horror movie on Netflix are these two dipshits talking about?
>>218864143The joke is that in horror movies the black characters rarely survive
Thai horror really likes the "the spirit will be removed in a safe way if you dont do this one thing during the ritual..." final acts doesnt it?On a related note, is the incantation game any good? Liked the movie, especially the clever twist and the payoff shot.
>>218856060I like to go through unprouced ones. I remember really liking one I read last year that I don't remember the name of.It was basically The Warriors but with a slasher stalking the gang. It was neat from what I remember.
>>218864246Someone actually did an analysis on horror movies and found that if you exclude the main character (mostly white, almost always survives), black characters actually do better than white ones.
looks like Send Help came out a day sooner
>>2188616302x classical home invasion:>the people under the stairs (1991)>don't breathe (2016)more of a hippy-eco-terrorist factory invasion:>death machine (1995)kidnapping:>whisper (2007)sorry that none of them is very recent. But at least one of them gets bonus points. Not spoiling which one(s) though, in case you want to watch any of them blind.
>>218864545in total, or %-wise?
>>218865097
I didn't like Send Help very muchIt's alright at first but by the end I just didn't care about any of it at all
>>218865162>whisper (2007)I'm guessing it's Whisper as it's the only one i haven't watched yet.Death Machine has well, a death machine, don't breathe is the blind hobo and Stairs the psycho couple
>>218864191>Doesn't answer the question while playing dolls with söyjaks
>>218824990havent seen gremlins since I was a kid and I have been feeling nostalgic lately
>>218866482ding ding dingI would compare it to Abigail, since it has a very similar setting. Less action and gore. It is not a cult classic, but still a solid and decent horror movie.
>>218866482And just for the protocol, he wasn't a hobo. You can't really home invade the homeless.
>>218861630Most recent I can think of that's sort of in there is Trap House.(2023)Not recent but have you seen Dead House?I know I've recced Intruders, Crush The Skull and Botched before. Not home invasion but Cryptic might be of interest for bad meets badder.
Ringu is such an astute meditation on voyeurism. Nails the "you shouldn't be watching this" thing
>>218867406They don't really know what they're watching though. Fear.Com captures that aspect better.
>>218867788FearDotCom rather.
God, I can't wait for these old farts running /hor/ to fuck off and die
>>218867947Well modern horror is a joke so I say the oldfags should run the place. Zoomers don't have the capability.
>want to write horror short for local festival>No ideas Ah! I'm fucking gay. I've only ever had ideas for feature length shit that I could never afford to make. On the other hand I barely have ever WATCHED horror shorts which I liked either.
Was there any chance that Heather, Josh and Mike could have escaped or did the witch control the enviornment?
>>218868311What about the masters of horror series? It shows what capable directors can make with a "small" budget and limited screen time. Some episodes are good, some are bad and some are really great.Or horror movies that originally started as a horror shorts. Like Oculus for example.Another good source of inspiration might be some short stories by Lovecraft. Reading some them made me realize just how much he influenced horror movies in general.Or some anthology movies like the V/H/S series, cat's eye or two evil eyes. They might also be a source for some decent horror shorts.Good luck with your short.
It’s time to feed the baby.A cruel circus owner beats and abuses his pregnant wife. One day the circus receives a leopard newly captured in Africa, but the animal soon dies. However, an evil creature that was inside the leopard bursts out of the animal’s body, burrows into the wife’s body and takes over her fetus. It soon starts demanding blood, and the woman goes searching for victims for her new “baby.”

>>218866948Give it a rewatch anon, it's a great film. Timeless and I think you appreciate the characters differently rather than just the gremlin chaos.

>>218874443it's kino. enjoy, white boy
>>218874443>>218874395actually i can barely get past the opening credits, not sure if this is for me already
Reminder to watch War Machine. Alan Ritchson is /ourguy/.
i just wanted to post this zombie meltdown but when I went to make the webmeme I realized the file had a commentary track and the directors were laughing their asses off watching this scene. makes me wanna rewatch with the commentary on even though this moobie was kinda dull
>>218874480i have the movie on pause on my other monitor because i'm not quite ready yet. doing some research on the movie out of curiosity and i asked google ai about the movie and it said it's the final boss and told me to not touch it with a ten foot pole after i told it how sensitive i am to horror lol
>>218874822i watched it with my black stepsister in the theater and she hid in my shoulder the whole time. it was kino.
>>218874863it sounds kino from what i'm reading about it online and the intro looks kino too, thank you though for bringing this movie to my attention. now i'm really interested
>>218874863
>>218873510If I ever have to get eaten by a living dead girl, I hope it's done by zombie Julie Walker.
>>218874261Inland Empire
>>218875137thank you for this too, got this one noted as well. already reading some good stuff on it in google
>>218874774All segments were entertaining though, last still has top notch underground urban kino atmosphereIf anything Cold is what felt very random and slow but the melting scene is cool
>>218875515i like David Warner so there's that. the first story was the most boringest to me.
>>218875225It's kind of a troll response because it's hard to even call it horror. It's 3 brutal hours long. A straight down the middle response is probably The Blair Witch Project but people either find that very or not scary at all depending on disposition .
>>218874261Just watch Texas Chainsaw (1974)
>>218876535This is the grimeist film
>>218845350Todd and the Book of Pure Evil is fun if your into horror comedy.
Just got with done Day of the Mummy (2014) was better then I thought but still garbage. Danny Glover was a highlight.Given that new Brendan Fraser Mummy movie is still far off, our there any good mummy movies to tide me over? Going to check out Abbott And Costello Meet The Mummy next.
>>218876906Abbott And Costello Meet The Mummy is kino. Perhaps the comfiest out of all of them and underrated. The Pyramid is one of the best egypt kinos. Also Fraser's mummy isn't coming out til next year I think, but in April there will be the Blumhouse Mummy film about a possessed girl of some kind.
>>218876906I really enjoyed The Ceremony Is About To Begin
>>218876906>mfw mummy

>>218879465Yes, dozens.
>>218879465He was in The Devil's Rejects. I'm sure he was in a Troma film too.

>>218879631that is absolutely insane. 83 horror movies what the fuck
>>218879631I remember he had a small role in Red Line (1995). Low budget movie but I rather enjoyed it. Would love to find a digital copy of it.
Lmao, Do Not Enter was pretty bad. Laughably so at many times because of the PS4 cgi. But idk I've hated other movies a lot more, this was more a turn your brain off slop film.Asian chick was hot though, she's gonna be the next Kitana.

Just finished. I tend to only watch stuff like this after a good while, if it develops a persistent reputation. This was very, very typical and uninteresting. Neat location but pretty much nothing else going for it. 1.5 out of 5.
