One major aspect the films often failed at depicting was how intrinsically magic runs through everything and how alive everything is. You didn't get stuff like the armor in the halls being animated or doors telling you to fuck off if you came at the wrong time, or the weird and varied spells and jinxes, you just got "gun" and "punch" spells, there's no jelly-legs jinx or anything wacky like that. Much of the ultra colorful and odd wizard clothing felt restricted to the schoolteachers as well after a while. So the result is much more static than what the books describe. This was something they could have tried to embody more, to stand apart from the previous adaptations. However, it seems like they doubled down instead.
