>>219185158It's over now. I liked it, well made and kept me guessing. Definitely did not see the third act coming. Last thread someone said it was like Friday the 13th with kids, which I can see, but its also F13 without any gore or tits. It felt like there needed to be a little more edge to make me really worried about the kids. But at the same time I'm relieved the story was a lot more than just Jason is killing kids this time.Hopefuly the sequel won't just rehash this. It's got a good setup to make it widespread like a zombie flick.
>>219188318> Last thread someone said it was like Friday the 13th with kids, which I can see, but its also F13 without any gore or tits. Movie was definitely inspired by FF13 in parts and possibly even Sleepaway Camp. Even the poster was very FF13.

>>219195895The first movie is a classic. I haven't seen the sequels, but the original is definitely worth watching.
The body horror elements are light. Most of the horror comes from the more obvious drug addiction drama element. I hope that you aren't able to relate to familial drug abuse, but for those who can, this movie's for you. This is technically a French film. Me, I have no problem with foreign films in foreign languages. Watching this, I only wished that it had a fully French cast. I would watch a middle eastern horror/drama with a cast that reflected the culture of that part of the world. Something meant to be French, though, I want to be genuinely French.
>>219196203seems like critics were lukewarm on it. after Titane I can't see myself watching another.

>>219196666hello super satan
I’m extremely sensitive to oppressive atmosphere when you know that something's not quite right, the anticipation of what could happen at any moment. To me that can be just as scary as getting chased by Michael Myers through the streets of a quaint suburbia and this has atmosphere out the ass, but the film is ultimately one hour too long and is almost entirely nonsense. I get what Lynch was going for ie. a 3 hour long nightmare where nothing makes sense and that’s exactly the problem. I stopped caring about what was happening to any of the characters about an hour and a half into it and it’s hard to get scared when you don’t care enough to get absorbed in the first place. I actually had to force myself to finish the film and I seriously considered dropping it more than once so I ended up hating it by the end, but I can’t say it wasn’t an experience to watch one of the most experimental films from one of Hollywood’s biggest auteurs so it wasn’t a waste of time although I’m never ever watching it again.
>>219198722Jill Schoelen. The Stepfather. It was like Patrick Stewart showed up during production and said, "I think you forgot something."
>>219199229I honestly think it's a masterpiece, it's brutal. But I was feeling the nightmare the whole time, perhaps because I didn't realize how long it was. There's really nothing else like it.
>>219199229I feel the same way and this is coming from someone who loves Lynch and especially both Lost Highway and Mulholland Drive. I've only watched EI once. I've tried to watch it again in the years since but just couldn't do it despite Lynch's mastery of atmosphere and Laura Dern delivering a stellar performance when even she didn't know what the hell she was supposed to be doing. I feel similarly about Twin Peaks.
>>219198977It was an okay idea, but it becomes too retarded by the end with too much wacky magical shit happening. But that's literally anything Joe Hill puts his hands on and half the stuff his dad touches as well so you can't really expect too much. But it was weakly worth watching.
>>219198977It's a Stephen King adaption, and it feels like a Stephen King adaption.
>>219199327I appreciate the insight, helps me know where to put it in the marathon.
>>219199229Either way you look at it, Dern sold the hell out of it
>>219199352I'll understand what that means after reading more S.K. and watching more adaptations then.

Just finished. Disappointing. Love the nature of the movie, that it's a kid cast, that it's a summer camp, that the counselors have personalities, but the story is just ass, with only the tiniest of ending gotchas to qualify it as a horror film. So much to like but ultimately a failure imo. The Asian cutie was fantastic.
>>219196203Pass.
>>219203260The movie was horror all the way. What are you talking about?>>219199469Pass. >>219198977Good.
>>219196203Female director and especially this one, no thanks.
>>219203260To say its a failure is a bit harsh but I do understand your disappointment. I think the ending would have worked better without the gotcha moment...it was implied that the violence was spreading and that was creepy enough and more in tone with the rest of the movie. This might make a good gateway horror film for someone who its 12.For me, I liked it more because what I want out of a movie more than anything is to be surprised and the third act was original enough that it kept me wondering where it was going.
>>219203747It's a straight sci-fi like The Island or Clonus but intentionally uses horror techniques as a misdirect, but then has that last minute twist to fully bring it into horror. There aren't any kills (until the literal last second), the purported villain doesn't exist, and the "actual" villain isn't (and in fact ends up the victim.) it's dressed up in horror clothes intentionally to trick you.
>>219203859>it's dressed up in horror clothes intentionally to trick you.NTA but that is what was interesting about it. And there were some spooky touches. When the girl counselor is telling the campfire story there is this creepy white face in the darkness behind her. It made me think this was going to be supernatural.
>>219203859It was horror from beginning with the camp fire story. It is a horror movie.

I was watching an episode of Shameless (UK) and because it's like season 5 or something it shows more of the estate. One part of it is like these flats (pic related), but there's something unnerving about them. I don't mean unnerving as if I imagine myself walking through them and someone taking my juice money. Like they look fake, uncanny valley but for a location. Worse is that in certain shots you can see this big fence that seems like it has them all penned in and they're all oblivious to it.Certain video games are like that too. Drug Dealer Simulator, for example, has that "vibe" to it because it has a big wall stopping you from easily accessing areas, but the whole layout seems off. It's like they're almost believable, but something isn't right about them and makes me uncomfortable. Is this how zoomers feel about the backrooms?
>>219205310afaik, a sense of uncanny valley is inherent to the creepiness of liminal spaces, so yes?
