Lena Olin
Be honest, anons. Has a movie ever actually scared you?
>>219229057When I was a kid, yeah, they all did. Now I see them in too technical of a way. I know it's just a movie with actors and make-up and it's not frightening. I miss the feeling.
>>219229057When I saw Halloween 2 as a kid it scared me and I had to sleep in my sister's room with her. Also tremors 2 when I was even younger. I was in my sleeping bag in bed (idk why not just blankets? There was some reason) and I thought the little thermal vision zergling looking ones were in my room and if I poked my head out they would eat me.
>>219229178> I was in my sleeping bag in bed (idk why not just blankets? There was some reason) and I thought the little thermal vision zergling looking ones were in my room and if I poked my head out they would eat me.You were right, they would have. it's good that you kept your head in the sleeping bag, where they couldn't get you.
>>219229057I saw The Ring when it came out and it scared the shit out of me. Sometimes now films can give me suspense and dread, which I enjoy, but mostly moments meant to be scary I find kind of delightful. Usually they make me smile.
After watching a decent amount of J-horror I notice that most of the characters usually take ghosts and supernatural threats immediately seriously almost as if ghosts are a fact of life whereas western characters would be far more skeptical for longer unless shown irrefutable proof. Is this how Japanese people really feel about ghosts?
>>219229352Of course. Japan actually has ghosts and yokai unlike the rest of the world.
>>219229352I think the traces of shinto where literally everything including your garbage and your socks have a soul keep that kind of belief marginally mainstream.
>>219229231>>219229178>>219229136I'm a little jealous. I've always been a cynical fuck as long as I can remember. I don't think any have bothered me even though horror is my favorite genre.
>>219229057When you're a kid just the tagline from a movie is enough to scare you. I remember Tiny Toons doing a totally benign parody of Freddy Krueger that scared me. There was a bit on The Ben Stiller show about a DJ talking to the devil that made me run out of the room. Jaws was an apocalyptic experience. But past like 10 or so, forget it, it's all fake, dude.
>>219229057the Ceti eels in ST:TWoK freaked me out as a kid. Something creepy about brain slugs going in ears to me
>>219229921The trash compactor monster thing spooked me
>>219229352It's just a better way to make a movie. I hate when horror films spend the first half fucking around because they characters have to be convinced of the supernatural thing first before the movie can start.
I saw Hunting Matthew Nichols the other night for the Monday Mystery Movie. It was pretty lame. It's a wannabe Blair Witch and a mixture of some other average horror. Nothing exciting happens until 85% through the movie. It's no wonder it took two years for it to be distributed.
>>219230047One of several reasons why Phantasm is one of my favorite horror movies is how Jody went from completely disbelieving to instantly believing everything Mike had said the moment Mike had a tiny bit of actual evidence.
>>219229057I saw The Shining tv movie as a kid and the woman in room 237 terrified me so much I cried and had nightmares for weeks.
>>219230190And now you are an adult manchild cause you are stuck in that moment.
>>219229057Seeing The Grudge (US) on TV at 8 while staying in a hotel room fucked me up for ages. That creepy kid making those awful cat sounds lingered in my head for years… AvP Requiem was another early mindfuck I could've gone without seeing lol
>>219228844Why does she seem like she would have been a huge hoe in the 80s.
>>219229057Yeah, by how shockingly bad it was
>>219203260>>219203859I prefer the more loose definition of horror we have now as opposed to 10-30 years ago honestly, it's much more in line with how we used to perceive horror prior to the 1970s. I like seeing all these different interpretations of what a scary film can be and I think we should be able to appreciate some variety in our entertainment. Halloween could've actually been a cool little anthology series after SotW if more people thought like that instead of all the garbage sequels and reboots redoing the first film over and over except worse in every way that we got instead. You probably wouldn't have watched Marshmallow in the first place if it wasn't classified as horror am I right?
>>219231175I wouldn't have watched if it wasn't "horror" but also if you guys hadn't been talking about it so much. I skip most modern horror movies, just wait for a lot of hype to build up behind one or for one to develop a reputation after a while.Anyway, I'm not really complaining when I say it's not horror, and Horror to me encompasses kids Halloween TV specials, I just like to try and have a hard line for what really is a "Scary Movie" when posting here vs just tangentially related to the genre.
>>219229021oof
>>219229021
>>219229057idk what people mean when they say scared. I feel tense in tons of jumpscare scenes. jumpscares get me all the time.I feel creeped out by lots of stuff.sleep with a nightlight on terrified? not since I was a kid I guess. I saw an alien abduction scene from maybe fire in the sky when I was young and that made me scared as hell. especially because all the late night shows would be like REAL ALIEN ABDUCTION FOOTAGE! UNEXPLAINED CROP CIRCLES NEAR YOU!!
>212 days until Halloween
>>219232282
>>219231279Sure, but if we always had to worry about whether or not a film was universally considered horror there would be no horror general because the horror genre would not exist. You're always going to have people question even classic horror films like Psycho that has literally always been known as horror and its the horror half of the film that elevated it to masterpiece status, not the generic crime thriller part preceding the shower scene that nobody remembers or talks about.Even clear cut slashers like Scream gets questioned because it's too mainstream/blockbuster-y and there's too much humor for their tastes. You even have retarded Youtube "critics" who think Weapons is a thriller and not horror when there are plenty of scary moments in that film, but there's also humor in it so that makes it a thriller to the types that don't consider horror comedy a valid genre mashup despite the majority of people who do and nothing you say or do will ever convince them that they're wrong because people are set in their ways. You just can't worry about that stuff because horror is the one genre that nobody has ever been able to see fully eye to eye on and it's always been like that and will always be like that. Judging from these threads alone however it's clear that enough people consider Marshmallow horror to warrant its discussion here at least.
>This is considered hilariously ugly and disgusting in 2026
>>219232381Speaking about Marshmallow specifically, the director clearly wanted the movie to be perceived as.horror and it not actually being horror is part of the concept, it's "what if I made a movie where the main character thought they were in a horror scenario but then it turned out to be something else entirely", and I appreciate that and consider the movie part of the horror milieu, but I also like laying it straight in my posts about whether it really is straight Horror or something else just packaged like it for people who haven't seen the movies yet.I don't "worry about that stuff" really, but this is just anonymous shitposting, I'm comfortable not agonizing over the consistency or quality of my posts and just posting whatever retarded shit I'm thinking in the moment, kek
>>219232533Old too.
>>219232588>>219232381Marshmallow is /hor/
>>219230175I've only seen the first one. I'll probably watch the rest of the series this October
>>219230629Everyone was a huge hoe in the 80s
>>219229021Hypothetically, if you're in this situation and a woman does this at you, what's the proper response? "Thank you"?
>>219232323Cope.
>>219232381Speaking of even fucking Jaws gets disputed all the time when it's a straight up monster movie where people get eaten alive and are constantly in danger every time the shark shows up
>>219232884They only do it to cucks and simps. Only those would get thirsty over a crumb like that.
>>219233160Have you told your parents you're gay yet?
The first three Return of the Living Dead movies actually hold up pretty well, but holy fuck do the ones from the 2000s suck. I'm surprised movies as a genre still exist after the wasteland that was the early-mid 2000s.
>>219233196Don’t discuss this movie here. Make a new thread for it.
>>219233257Why is it called "horror general" if it's not a place to mention horror movies that can't sustain their own threads?
>>219233300HORROR general. Not horror-comedy, unfortunately.
>>219233300Talk about whatever you want, that's just the trust fund baby trolling for attention since he's got nothing to do all day.
>>219233346He isn’t trolling as that movie and genre is banned here.
>>219233319But....>>219228959
>>219233346Your kids don’t have a trust fund? Or 6 houses? Wierd insult
>>219233404Just don’t discuss that series here. Maybe someone will post banned list for you.
>>219233447I am at work right now which happens to be where I watch my kinos. Shall post when I get home.
>>219233498>I am at work right now which happens to be where I watch my kinos.Me too, neat.
>>219233196This was way better than I thought it'd be. The tone is weird but the gore and sludge is impressive
>>219233373Wait, so /horror general/ doesn't allow:>Evil Dead>Gremlins>Critters>Little Shop of Horrors>Scream>Cabin in the Woods>TremorsActually, you know what, I think I see what you mean now.But that's gotta mean this general either has a tiny population or routinely has to tell people not to post comedy horrors, because a ton of high-profile horror movies are technically comedy horrors.
>>219233257Kill yourself + cry more bitch
>>219233587Comic relief =/= horror comedy.
>>219233300NTA but what you've posted is known 'round these parts as a banned movie. Now you just get on out of here and there won't be no trouble.
>>219233587>Evil DeadOnly the 3rd movie is banned. >ScreamThis isn’t a comedy. Are you stupid?A horror-comedy is a comedy movie with horror. >>219233567Stop.
>>219233587unfortunately it's resident local schizo, laugh at his impotence and enjoy horror kinos
>>219229057I wouldn’t say anything really scares me any more, but some films still leave me unsettled on occasion. They tend to be ones that blur the line between the supernatural and insanity or things that hint at cosmic horror.
>>219233629>Stop-ACK!
>>219233680Nothing on that list is kino, unfortunately.
>>219233621What about the first two Return of the Living Dead movies?>>219233629The first two Evil Dead films were pretty campy and funny, too, though.>Scream>This isn’t a comedy. Are you stupid?Google "Is Scream a horror comedy film" and you'll find like a dozen sources saying it is because of the way it deconstructed the genre and borderline satirized it.
>>219233587idk if I'd call Scream comedy horror, but it has some funny moments
>>219233716Here. Have some true kino.
>>219233742The Evil Dead + ROTLD, two of the greatest horror kinos ever.
>>219233742>What about the first two Return of the Living Dead movies? Now you just move right along. I don't want no trouble.
>>219233754I wouldn’t label it comedy either. If you’re not unsure if a horror-comedy is comedy or not, just label it as comedy and see if it works. Scream clearly doesn’t.
>>219233795>Evil DeadNot banned. >RoTLDBanned.
>>219233742People like you are so stupid and all retarded discussions on stupid topics related to horror are mainly mid wits like you.
>>219233856>your dad hanging himself when you tell him you're gay
>>219233884You just described reddit.
>>219233884You can barely speak English.

>>219233943I think he's a big RE4 fan whereas I'd rather see a film that was cops in an old mansion or cop station blowing zombies away.
>>219233956Fuck him.
>>219234014Not horror, but Carpentert's Assault on Precinct 13 gave me real Resident Evil 2 vibes
>>219234046Ok I definitely need to rewatch this then. I saw it when I was younger and didn't think much of it, but the terrible version I watched almost certainly ruined the experience. Also Dark Star, never seen that.
>>219234081>Ok I definitely need to rewatch this then. I saw it when I was younger and didn't think much of itDefinitely rewatch it, and keep in mind the alligator boss in RE2 and how you beat him. There's a scene in the movie that I thought for sure inspired that scene in the game.Dark Star is also a decent watch-- has some funny parts, but is clearly very low-budget and amateurishly made.
>>219233498>>219233528Watching horror at work, what an insult to the genre.
>Battling against the legacy of childhood trauma, internalised misogyny, and the image-obsessed fat shaming of the LA music business, aspiring singer-songwriter Frankie Ramirez finally snaps, with bloody results.

Yeah this is the worst Scream isn't it.It really grinded me how weak kills were. There was a weightlessness to them all, the movie just slashes through the cast joylessly. You can't just push a knife into someones head like it's a watermelon. Didn't like the comedy horror style kills either. And the reveal was half obvious. Neve was the strong point.Anyway took me ages to see it and thanks for not spoiling it for me bros.
>>219236320Better than the NY trilogy and I'd put it ahead of 3. Not close to the kino that was 1, 2, & 4 though.>You can't just push a knife into someones head like it's a watermelonIf you want realism, you need to stop watching movies. Horror movies always treat people as endless blood bags. I guess you hate all zombie movies because that's 100% not realistic at all. The same goes for any movie feature creatures or supernatural elements.
>>219232323Based Phantombro, and based triple repeating digits like the three mothers.>>219234629It's from The Ninth Gate.
>>219236409I liked the NY ones fine, hot cast members. I do agree that 1/2/4 are the best. There's a spectrum of realism and this crossed my Scream line. But what I was getting at was that the kills didn't feel physically impactful. Like the difference between watching cgi and watching a practical effect, you can't feel the danger with cgi.Where is this >>219233754 is retarded movie gun magic, but it feels impactful.
Just finished. I get that it's the fundamental concept of the thing, but damn this is fucking repetitive. Bizarre that it all seems to be an anti-abortion message, too (which I'm very okay with.) laughed out loud at the cgi rats. Did everything it was trying to do very well but I can't imagine ever watching it again.
>>219236536>muh CGI is badCGI is used A LOT in movies in parts that you never even notice. It's used mostly to fill out spaces, backgrounds, touch things up, visual effects on objects/weapons, etc.>kills didn't feel physically impactfulIt's a slasher movie. 90% of the kills are just wasting useless characters. You knew at least 3 people were going to survive going into the movie, and you knew exactly who they were. Knowing that, you knew the others were just fodder and pointless to the plot.Again, you might want to stop watching movies.
>>219236682Yeah it was alright. The wikipedia page seems to insinuate the boy is a representation of him as a child, not sure I watched it that way but yeah similarly it felt like "I am no longer asking.jpg"
What's a horror movie that'll traumatize?
>>219236804Salo's the one that I felt was like getting slapped in the face. When I was a teenager I was hunting down all the "disturbing" ultra gory faux snuff movies and rented Salo and it just made me feel bad. Stopped watching those kinds of movies for a while.
>>219236769You're unpleasantly smug for someone with so little of value to say. I've watched probably a hundred slashers, I know what impactful kills look like and what weak slop looks like.
>>219236850>ad hominem>appeal to authority>meme wordsYep, you lost. I accept your concession. Thanks for admitting I'm right and you're wrong. Filtered. Now be a good retard and reply more, I'll never see it. I know you can't resist, you're already typing.

>>219236838>>219236948Thanks. I'll check those out. What about stuff involving body horror and transformations, or mythical creatures?
>>219237336kek NYRipper is probably a bad rec, a better one would be Martyrs (2008).Do you mean, traumatic ones or just regular?
>>219237078I liked it, although most that don't seem to have a problem with the romance shit. The action-horror parts are great IMO. It being 3 genres smashed together can put people off though.
>>219237423Matyrs is actually what inspired my request. I'm mostly just looking for something that sticks with you, like:>the ending from Martyrs>the syringe pit from Saw 2>the creatures (and ending) from The Descent>the spider hatchlings in The Mist>the Pale Man from Pan's Labyrinth>Pyramid Head from Silent Hill>the bear from Annihilation >the daughter from Splice>the Thing from Another World (the monster from the 80s version, even though I like the 1950s film more)>The Fly>Any Cenobite>Jean Jacket from Nopeetc, etc, etcI'm not looking for existential anguish or empty despair. Some depression is fine, but I'm mostly looking for characters with drive that keep going despite being confronted with ineffable horrors, be they external entities or something horrible happening to the character in question. I don't want characters that are constantly terrified or caught off guard.
