AMADEUS APPRECIATION POST
Not only is it pure, fantastical, fictional farce, it's actually crazy how cute his wife was. Milos Forman literally cast Liz Berridge on the basis that she wasn't as attractive as the other actresses auditioning (Diane Franklin, Meg Tilly) which is baffling. Whenever I revisit it, I literally can't take my eyes off her when she's on-screen. Fucking crushes…

No one has ever noticed how you change personas when you attack a poster, bruh, or how you change personas to try and make people think that a certain poster is acting in a certain way while not doing so. Anyway, you're a beyond creepy and weird dude.

I watched Voices through time today at my local indie theatre. Lyrical film, almost like a symphony at times. It uses gestures to portray psychological states or emotions, which was obvious or more suggestive at times. Beautiful and poetic film

Is Kim Ki Duk's blogpost: the movie kino?
>>
>>219336025
Told you it was going to be good. Personally I am yet to watch Al primo soffio di vento and Nostos: Il Ritorno, but I'm confident they'll live up to my positive expectations.
>>
>>219336069
Was that post death movie of his ever released?
>>
>>219336185
Word has it that Nostos il ritorno is his magnum opus, it seems like the only way to watch that film is on the big screen. Watching it online doesn't do it justice at all i think

I do not worship any actor or actress. No director, nobody. I have no icons.

it's time for a kino
>>
The gadonfag, all of you are against truth. To worship a celebrity is to worship an idol. One must not worship anyone. Not a celebrity, not a director, not any country or movement. Not even a work.

The rest of it he makes into a god his idol and bows down to it and worships it. He prays to it and says Deliver me for you are my god.

Watched Magellan / Magalhães last night. I'd hadn't seen any of Lav Diaz's works before this.... and I won't watch any more after this. Felt like the kind of bad video art you see in a shitty gallery. It wasn't boring (though every five or 10 minutes, someone would leave the cinema and not come back - I know because I was sitting on the back row) but it felt so incredibly amateur. I thought it might at least look pretty, but the people praising its bog standard, static shot photography must be smoking something strong.
>>
>>219351682
i think you got filtered but i haven't seen it
Lav Diaz isn't about super incredible cinematography, he is a pretty ascetic filmmaker visually, it's about an occasional small moment
>>
>>219346642
Always found this movie really over-rated. Buuuuut I did re-watch Nashville recently and it felt x10 better than when I first watched is about five years ago (dunno if that's a reflection of politics getting even shittier or just something else clicking for me). Maybe it's time I revisited McCabe too.
>>
>>219351759
I dunno. Not sure there was enough "content" for me to get filtered by, if I'm honest. Everything felt incredibly basic, even the colonialism stuff that I assumed would be important or treated with interest by a Filipino director.

The whole thing to me felt like a weird fit. Magellan ought to be this epic tale, even if you focus on a particular or small part of his tale, but the director clearly isn't that kind of director nor does he have the funds for that kind of tale (another reason why the entire project feels art gallery and amateur).

Maybe this needed to be another of his infamously long films to build up the small moments you talk about. I know plenty of people moan that this is his most commercial work.
>>
>>219351682
>>219351759
Evolution of a Filipino Family has plenty of sloppy editing moments and does feel very amateurishly made.

No matter how good you think it is, if a film has a terrible script, abysmal cinematography, shitty editing, no direction and a Hans Zimmer soundtrack, no actor's performance can save it.

Have you seen any of his other films? I've mentioned this here before, but the main reasons why I love M&MM are the way it juxtaposes the Altmanian slice-of-life structure with the western framing, and how it waits until its third act to finally engage with the conventions of the genre, as a sort of pay-off. I also always loved Beatty's declaration of "I got poetry in me!"
