There's something I've been thinking about lately. Do you think how scary a horror film is matters more than anything else and do you feel the same with comedies being funny? Maybe I'm just the weird one but I love the original Home Alone and rewatch it every Christmas but I've never really found it all that funny even as a kid but I still love the film and think it's kino. Same with other allegedly super funny comedies like Superbad or The Hangover or Frasier or Seinfeld sure I chuckle sometimes but I can count the amount of times I've legit lol'd between all 4 of them on one hand despite the length of the average TV sitcom I just think they're comfy and watch them for the characters and acting more than anything.

I have a much easier time loling if I watch a funny movie in the company of other people which has less to do with the contents of the films themselves and more to do with getting caught up in the general mood and social atmosphere of your immediate surroundings. I feel the same way with horror films I just really appreciate the craft, aesthetics, dark themes, tension, suspense and atmosphere behind the good ones and getting scared is a nice bonus just like laughing heartily at a comedy but it doesn't really matter that much to me desu as long as I'm entertained.

The horror films I would consider legit 10/10s are not very scary neither are the 10/10 comedies all that funny. I feel the same with thrillers I'm very rarely at the edge of my seat but suspense is still a great narrative tool to create entertaining stories with.

Watched this yesterday, it was pretty good. Anyone else? Name is About a Place in the Kinki Region, from the same director of Noroi and Sadako vs. Kayako

Ah yeah, I've accounted for those already. The villain was indeed freakish,
and persuasive if that makes any sense, like the Djinn from Wishmaster.
I would say the budget was less than Wishmaster's, but we're going off a child's memory.
>>219768870
I didn't even think of that. Reminded me to grab Nightmares with that "Emilio Estevez gets trapped in an arcade game" story.
>>
>>219775041
It was slightly above average. Can't give it more than a 5.5/10.
>>
>>219774985
I guess it's a mix.
The Blair Witch Project scared the shit out of me and it's one of my favs. Alien didn't, but it's giga kino because of the design of everything. The Evil Dead isn't very scary, but has great characters, some comedy, a mix of everything.
So I guess as long as a film has something going for it.

Was alright but I think I like his original stuff like Noroi more. That one was an adaption iirc.

Yes, I felt it had a lot potential but it was well done enough to be enjoyable.

>>219775109
Yeap, his eye is on the mockumentary stuff, the regular film parts are well done but you just want more of creepy VHS little horror stories. I also think he improved his effects/CGI scenes, the only one that looked bad for a moment was the last one but then I realized it was supposed to be jarring.

I wish it was easier to see his stuff. Tons of it is either impossible to find or relies on fan translation

Same. He did a lot of things that looks pretty fun, like comedies, crime, and drama, most of them with J-Horror at it's core.

She really a cute. That combination of physique, hair, and glasses. But it's the facial structure hidden behind the large glasses that really do it for me.
