>Unlike DVD region codes, Blu-ray regions are verified only by the player software, not by the computer system or the drive. The region code is stored in a file or the registry, and there are hacks to reset the region counter of the player software. In standalone Blu-ray players, the region code is part of and enforced by the firmware.

>Similar to DVDs, some Blu-ray rippers (such as AnyDVD HD) can remove region codes as well as other types of digital rights management (DRM) and copy protection, including Advanced Access Content System (AACS) and BD+. Multi-regional standalone players available,[15] and some standalone Blu-ray players can be modified to be region-free.

smoothhands here of https://letterboxd.com/Smoothhands/ fame. just completed my week in kino review.
In reading about Phil Solomen I learned that machinima is an actual film term and not just the name of a youtube channel. The more you know.
Also found out that I had seen 5 Aleksandr Ptushko flics. I had had a feeling of familiarity watching Cкaзкa o пoтepяннoм вpeмeни, I thought just for a general soviet kids movie feel, but turns out itsall one director. Well not all, but at least in part.

smoothhands here. i judge my flics based on all other flics i have seen. the only criteria possible. so yes i have reviewed all my flics in the past and updated ones i felt differently on with distance. not for purposes of fitting a model, but rather just an updated samples size. at this point though i have a large enough sample were i haven't felt the need to do this in quite a while apart from the occasional flic that has stuck with me and updated accordingly. but perhaps i will look through my flics the week just for kicks and update accordingly.

The main villain is the son of a South Korean agent who tried to overthrow Kim Il Sung and he wants revenge. He faked his own death after his father was captured by the authorities and killed a kid and took over his life to move up in the ranks of NK society to get close to the train carrying Kim Jong Il so he can blow it up with a suicide vest.

Hate that book. Hate Orwell in general. No sense of subtlety. Literally screams his intended meaning at the reader all the time. And what a shallow and dogmatic meaning it is.
Animal Farm is even worse, but I guess you can show it to a toddler to teach it about society. Teletubbies level of complexity, really.
Was anyone else here forced to read Shooting an Elephant at school?
>>
>>219900843
Homage to Catalonia is actually a very good read. 1984 is ok. Animal Farm is literally a kids book, I'm not sure why you're using "Teletubbies level of complexity" as a criticism when the intended target audience is the same.

Yea I read that in the 8th grade. I read most of Orwell’s work when I was a teenager, if I had waited until my late 20s or thirties I would have hated him too probably. Still I think for the most part he was a force for good in the world. Any popular material that condemns and warns against totalitarian nightmare regimes has value imo.

>didnt you enjoy Down and Out or Catalonia?
Never read those. At some point I just stopped giving him a chance.

I read Down and Out in high school. It didn’t change my life or anything stupid like that but I remember it was sort of liberating as an American teenager to read a non-fiction book about a guy with no money and no job just tramping around Europe. The idea that you could even survive that way was sort of alien to me. In my country you’ll end up in a cave fighting off the national guard like Rambo if you try that shit

What is /film/'s take on Come and See?

I know some of you will probably go on about how the Soviets did worse and Germans were welcomed in parts of Eastern Europe (which I would agree with in good part), but I still say that the director really showed what he went through. Apocalypse Now is still my favorite war movie overall, but Come and See became my favorite war movie which shows the brutal, bizarre nature of war regardless of which side is "right", and how traumatic the 20th century was for humanity as a whole.

My understanding was that our philosemitism was meta ironic because we love Jewish girls but hate Zionism... r-right bros?

I initially thought he was doing more annoying contrarian shtick like D*ngo, but going by a quick skim of his 5s, 4.5s and 4s, this isn't really representative and he seems to be pretty /film/.

We support Zionism (Akermanian Tunnel Zionism) precisely because we love Jewish girls.

Very funny and smart satire, and perfect casting, all the old geezers were kino. Ultimately i prefer Loves of a Blonde for its emotional depth though. Guess after this one he left the country because the soviets came in.

Eh. He insists upon himself too much but Ali G is a great character. I quote him from time to time. Tom Green did shock humor better.

He's very hit-or-miss but Borat and the other things mentioned are good.

I probably would have thought it was fine if it hadn’t been built up so much by the internet. I watched a couple of video essays about it on youtube where they acted like it was the greatest or the bleakest or the whateverest war movie ever. Definitely overrated

>Like how the Mexican salad dressing has a sombrero, there's a tattoo on Paul Newman's CAWck, of his face. But the top of his head is a dick. It's a dick version of his face. Tattooed under it it says "Newman's cum. Newman's own cum"
