Not bad, even had a nod to that tobe hooper crocodile movie. One gripe was the female lead having a guy's name, who names a girl Kyle. Sounded like the lead was supposed to be a guy but they changed it to a gal but didn't change the name in the script.

Friday the 13th is just a great name for a series
Pamela was memorable then the sequels had the perfect mascot of Jason who while silent like Michael, had more personality.
The hockey mask was a great pick over the potato sack from 2. Fans couldn't easily dress up like Jason after stopping by any sporting goods store.
A heathy amount of nudity did help with the popular.
Great kills till the MPAA came knocking.

>>
>>220027860
Even when compared to other derivative 80s slashers the characters in this just feel like indistinguishable NPCs. The likes of Sleepaway Camp, My Bloody Valentine, or Burning aren't exactly known for complex characters but at least most of their cast have at least one single trait attributed to them while Friday the 13th cast have none, they're just copy-pasted ""teenager"".
>>
>>220028701
You've pointed out just why F13 stands out

The MPAA are the guys who decide what rating your movie gets(PG-13, R etc), during the initial slasher boom of the late 70s/early 80s they were letting a lot of horror movies slip by when it came to gore/kills/nudity. This had some people clutching their pearls, so to save face the MPAA starting cracking down especially on slashers.
Friday the 13th was one of the biggest kids on the block and drew alot media attention so the MPAA went after them harder then some others. A Friday movie would get made and get sent to the MPAA so they could rate it, the MPAA would demand the kills they considered to be too graphic be edited out or edited down under the threat the movie would get an X rating(basically an old school NC-17) most theaters won't show X rated movies so the Friday producers were forced to neuter kills by cutting away or severely reducing the blood effects in order to get an R rating. It starts to get really noticeable in part 6 then blatant in part 7.
Other movies got hit pretty hard be it franchise or not like My Bloody Valentine which was forced to tone down nearly every single kill in the movie.
The MPAA crackdown was one of the contributors in the slasher craze dying out alongside oversaturation of course.

That jump scare ending also stirred up a lot of word-of-mouth, which even led to studios utilizing more "shocking" twist endings to their horror movies (most notably the first Elm Street and Sleepaway Camp).

Actually that was just because the founder of New Line wanted to sequel bait so they could turn it into a franchise they could milk since they were on the verge of bankruptcy back then. Craven didn't want to do it at all but was forced to which is why he didn't direct another Nightmare movie until New Nightmare.
>>
>>220028834
Maybe unpopular but a bunch of what was cut from MBV wasn't needed. Some of the kills feel tighter with less shots.

>Dr. Giggles
Watched this for the first time in forever. The medical/doctor jokes & puns are absolutely awful. All the medical shit is also terribly inaccurate. There's little gore throughout as well. Still, it all kind of works to make a movie that's enjoyable, but around a 5-5.5/10. There is something about those post-80s, pre-Scream slasher movies that are an interesting watch.

The one thing I kept thinking is how amazing a team of Dr. Giggles and Pauline (Excision) would be.

The Ninth Gate was about how I remembered it from when I first watched it many years ago. It was quite gripping and enjoyable for most of it, but I found the ending underbaked and disappointing. I think it's one of few films that could have been much better if it was much longer. It needed scenes to set up Corso's motivation to pursue completion of the ritual, scenes giving more information about what's in the books and what they mean, and some kind of setup beyond what we got for how Corso was led to the final engraving.

The producers chose the name and started putting out ads with the name before they even knew kind of movie they were making.
It does feel kind of a waste since there isn't any real reason to have it called Friday the 13th storywise since unlike Halloween the actual day of Friday the 13th doesn't occur at the same time every year. Plus the whole birthday thing only really matters for Pamela, Jason doesn't care about killing on his birthday, he kills horny teens all year around.

Craven didn't want the ending we got at all, it flat out doesn't make any sense and doesn't fit thematically. He wanted the movie to end with Freddy being defeated by Nancy simply ignoring him and no longer fearing him, similar to how the kids defeated Pennywise in It, you know what actually happened in the movie before the reset ending.

>"It’s beautiful sunshine, and that’s the end. I’d seen Friday the 13th and some other films, and there’s always a zinger at the end. There was no zinger here," Bob explained.

>Aside from shocking the audience one last time, Wes told Vulture that he believed Bob ultimately wanted a "hook for a sequel". While this wasn't exactly the problem, Bob basically wanted Wes to go back on what he was trying to say with his horror film.

>"I felt that the film should end when Nancy turns her back on Freddy and his violence — that’s the one thing that kills him," Wes admitted. "Bob wanted to have Freddy pick up the kids in a car and drive off, which reversed everything I was trying to say — it suddenly presented Freddy as triumphant."

>Because Bob was adamant about the change, Wes was forced to come up with a comprise that nobody was entirely happy with.

>"I came up with a compromise, which was to have the kids get in the convertible, and when the roof comes down, we’d have Freddy’s red and green stripes on it. Do I regret changing the ending? I do, because it’s the one part of the film that isn’t me."

>The truth is, not even Bob Shaye's dad liked the ending of the film.

>"When I showed the film to my dad at a screening, he said, 'The ending is weird.' I told him about the awkward compromise Wes and I had made," Bob explained to Vulture. "He said, 'It’s not good. You gotta change it.' I said, 'Dad, I can’t.' We’re in a bar, and he yells, 'You’re gonna f*** up this movie!' We just left it the way it was."

The ending isn't so bad that it completely ruins an otherwise great film but yeah it still sucks.

Hive is not nearly as bad as most of the reviews it's getting are saying. It has some problems like relying too heavily on tropes that have gotten very old, and its plot needed some more work. It has a genuinely cool concept which overall makes it work, though, and is worth a watch.

Ok, I watched The Craft and it was supremely kino. I didn't expect it to actually be scary, I always thought of it as a gothic high school dramedy. Very effective build up of tension, well written characters. They actually act like high school kids as well. On that note, the film succeeds as a high school drama with light sex comedy-esque elements while also being an excellent supernatural thriller. They don't make 'em like they used to.

I have no idea who that is but it is disgusting how girls, where their ONLY value is their looks, cannot even be bothered to maintain it. I guess their iq is low so they think it never fades. But can’t they see their mom? Every girl will look like their mom. Or does every female know they will hit the wall so they just say fuck it. Like attractive actresses/females (who are only slightly above average females) think they will look 18-20 forever. Then they turn 30 and look like stereotypical feminists. I have been looking for some horror (or more like thriller) movie and I don't fucking remember the name, it's been years. It was like from the 2000s, a guy falls in love with the wife of some old guy that owns a motel and wants to protect her from him. At the end it's revealed the mc was actually a a schizo and all of that was in his head and the motel guy wife was never in danger. They also have some pool scene of her and the guy kissing
