You can think whatever you want about the diddling shit but the movie is objectively bad. Not sure why they didn’t just remaster a bunch of old concert footage because that’s all this is.

Almost all music biopics are bad,, really. All follow the same formula:

> Young musicians dreams of becoming a star.
> A mentor tells them how

https://www.theguardian.com/news/ng-interactive/2026/apr/26/bad-movies-good-business-how-sanitised-biopics-became-a-hollywood-staple

To use the music of an artist you need the cooperation of the artist or the artist's Estate. That means any biopic is immediately constrained in what it can portray. A biopic about an artist without said artist's music ends up being doomed to failure.

Not just the Michael bio-pic, but also the Freddie Mercury, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, and Bob Marley bio-pics, were all hagiographic. Musicians are fundamentally un-cinematic. Ironically the Robbie Williams bio-pic was more honest and more creative than any of its recent contemporaries...and /tv/ hated and sneered at it. Williams and Elton John are far certainly more honest than their American counterparts.

Music documentaries, such as Get Back, EPIC, etc, tend to be far more illuminating than any bio-pic.

I'm still gonna see it but it's a bummer that it's not a good movie

unfortunately you can't make a good biopic of a musician until they're dead for like 50 years. as a third party can't piss of the rightholders or they won't let you use the songs in the movie
>>
>>220082180
Music biopics are made to keep musicians within the public consciousness as celebrated icons so their handlers can continue to profit from their work. It’s the sole reason. It’s why we’re not getting serious, dramatic movies about Michael Jackson or Freddie Mercury, just bare bones pop concert movies that keep the fans happy
>>

Michael Jackson is a charismatic pop culture icon and pedophile with a vocal and diehard fanbase that stuck around despite the irrefutable proof (as no matter how much they try to focus on his shitbag father, Jordan's testimony remained consistent and accurate in details up to and including details of Michael's penis), as he had been able to successfully deflect any attention regarding such to another group of prominent pedophiles.

Based on this, MJ likely would've been President.
>>
>>220083749
Part of me thinks he might have turned the corner and become more normal.

Another Part of Me thinks he would have got weirder, and the hostility toward him would have deepened and he would have become increasingly absurd.

One thing I find funny is that Jarvis Cocker, who sabotaged Jackson's performance at the 1996 Brit Awards, was a big admirer of Jimmy Saville.

Got back from it about an hour ago.
It's not the greatest bopic ever like audiences say nor is it the second coming of Caligula like critics say, but I was pleasantly surprised. Jaafar is so flawless in his impersonation of and physical resemblance to Jackson that it's really one of the very few movies to where I felt like the subject matter was somehow resurrected from the dead on screen in a way that CG nor another actor could've done. Domingo was surprisingly fantastic as Joe in a refreshingly zest-free role that showcased a lot of range, and the tension between the two really drove the film and made it work. It was also fun seeing Mike Meyers in something for the first time since the Love Guru.
The concert and dance sequences were really incredible and reminded me a lot of the remastered Elvis concert film that came out recently, albeit with cinematography that really brought the whole thing a new dimension. It was mystifying whenever these scene happened and the filmmakers knew. It truly gave you a sense of MJ's immense power as an artist/performer and what he represented, and that impressed me even going in and expecting that to be the highlight.
Problem is obviously that the story is thin and the script on the nose and super sanitized, but that's to be expected given it's an estate project. It's very old Hollywood, Jim Thorpe All-American in that regard, but I also can't deny that it really gave me a sense of the incredible power of Michael Jackson and truly brought him back to life organically, and that's a pretty remarkable achievement given this thing easily could've been laughably shit judging by the production hell this went through.
Question is whether the sequel will be more of the same or a hilarious trainwreck, either way I'll be watching which means the filmmakers succeeded.

I feel like he would've been the pop music equivalent to Kanye in the sense that he'd have lengthy bouts of schizo breakdowns and insanity punctuated by brief bouts of lucidity. He probably would've still been super popular for this reason alone even if he'd obviously taper in popularity. I imagine his reactions to the rise of trap would've been interesting too, I could easily imagine something like an MJ/Pi'erre Bourne collab.

I will say one thing that bothered me about the movie was the scene at the Victory tour where Michael told off Joe didn't include any music from Victory. Which is a shame, because either Torture or State of Shock would've been great songs to see performed and would've made the scene perfect:

Yeah, I wish there was more focus on the man himself, rather than just his performances. Felt like I was watching a tribute/impersonator show most of the time. I'm guessing they didn't want to infer too much on stuff they weren't privy to. Obviously nobody knew for sure what was going through Michael's head at the time. Still it felt pointless dedicating so much time to recreating stuff that we've all already seen a million times before by the real MJ.

Apparently it was actually due to Jordan Chandler himself, not the Jackson Estate's fault. Part of the settlement conditions back in the day was that Chandler couldn't be mentioned or put into any movies. Obviously they could have maybe went into other allegations if the biopic went beyond the time period it did, but it did not.

Likely the family realizes that later life MJ is a weirdo eccentric at best and, as some kikes ITT are saying, a child rapist at worst, so it made more sense to have a movie that highlighted the best of MJ and ignore the stuff that is arguably not even true or misconstrued.

The Anti-Defamation League on Wednesday demanded an apology from Michael Jackson after ABC aired what was said to be a telephone answering-machine message in which the pop star referred to Jews as “leeches.”
Michael Jackson has an anti-Semitic streak and hasn’t learned from his past mistakes,” ADL director Abraham H. Foxman said in a statement. “It seems every time he has a problem in his life, he blames it on Jews.”
Jackson infuriated Jewish groups in 1995 when his song “They Don’t Care About Us” included the lyrics “Jew me, sue me, everybody do me, kick me, kike me.” Jackson apologized, saying the lyrics were meant to demonstrate the hatefulness of racism, anti-Semitism and stereotyping. He then changed the lyrics.
A transcript provided by King’s office quotes Jackson as saying: “They suck them like leeches. ... They start out the most popular person in the world, make a lot of money, big house, cars and everything and end up penniless. It’s a conspiracy. The Jews do it on purpose.”

I don't remember them caring when they fully sanitized Freddie Biopic from all the fuckery that was done to him by his band mates that had complete creative control over the movie.

>Ironically the Robbie Williams bio-pic was more honest and more creative than any of its recent contemporaries...and /tv/ hated and sneered at it.
That was less about it being bad and more about disliking how some literally-who non-celebrity was being touted as if he mattered.
>INB4 "He's famous in the UK."
The fact that he's a distinctively british personality with 0 clout outside of Bongistan makes people want to shit on him by default, because that means he's not "Robbie Williams," he's not a "celebrity," he's not a "musician," hell, he's not even a "person," he's "that british guy nobody has ever heard of."
They don't see him as a person, they see him as a representative of a foreign culture that's widely mocked, hated, and actively collapsing. The movie failed purely because Americans--along with basically every other culture on the planet--dislike the UK and have contempt for their country and their culture.
Robbie Williams specifically doesn't matter, nor did the quality of the movie. People just actually hate the UK that much.

>Do Gen Z even like MJ
Yes. His death was probably the first major happening we all remember.
>or did they just go see it because everyone else is
It's because it's an MJ movie, not because it's popular. The reason this movie blew up was because of pre-existing Zoomer fans of MJ given his cultural status.
>>220101449
>It is a protest against the jews
Also this. Ironically MJ's controversial/conspiratoral side has probably helped him remain relevant and interesting. The anti-J angle definitely helps even if it's inaccurate.

>sanitize
As if all the other dozens of singers biopics these past years were anything other than fluff jobs. Bohemian Rhapsody comically downplayed the heavy drugs use and sex parties. A Complete Unknown also pretended Dylan wasn't a drug head. Elvis sugarcoated his relationship with his wife. One Love turned Bob Marley into Jesus. Maestro went out of its way to turn a interesting life into the blandest Disney version possible.
