Well, The Goetia Diaries was one of the most embarrassingly bad movies I've ever seen. Fortunately, it was hilariously bad at some points.

This fucking ruled. All the stories and the wrap-around in less than 90 minutes. Great stories, great twists, great actors.I love Tales from the Crypt the show, but I had never seen the 1972 british movie. You know all the twists but it doesn't matter. 9/10
>>220194976The segment "All Through The House" is one of the best especially for Christmas (obviously). It's cool that they did it again in the TV series.

>>220198539Just finished.I found it enjoyable, though it did very little to be scary. It's the kind of movie I think of more as a "supernatural drama" film than a real horror film.More than anything, it made me want to rewatch Shinya Tsukamoto's Kotoko, another "single mother with mental illness struggling to raise a child on her own" horror/drama.
>>220199299Nice to see people getting out for it in theaters, I felt similar.I think the lesser jumpscares should have been replaced by slower ones. The ones that hit were amazing and there was a clear distinction between them. Also I think it had one of the best opening/closing ideas I've ever seen. A bit of Watchmen to it.
>>220201479It's a pretty middling film imo and as you said lots of drama. The fact it was hailed as one of the greatest horror films ever is the problem. It's absurd and gave us 10+ years of trauma monsters.

>>220201897It's not fully horror. But I love it, gotta be a top five movie for me. I'd say it's horror/action hybrid. My first time watching this (and Alien) was in a creepy as fuck Cottage in bumfuck New Hampshire that had a Ouija board in the closet. The Cottage was near that town with the big ass Arcade (I can't remember the name lol) Lowkey was scared to sleep that night.

>>220202280watching horror films in creepy locations is underrated. cabinanon had it made.
>>220202495>watching horror films in creepy locations is underratedI have often fantasized about watching a horror on my phone or something in the woods at night just to see if I'll feel anything. I'm desperate to feel fear.
>>220202280>>220202495One of the creepiest moments for me was when I visited the old family home where my grandparents kept an old sibling or maybe great grand parent (can't recall correctly) in an upstairs bedroom to die.I remember getting the tour of the house when I was a kid and the story just coming up matter-of-factly.Like Zelda in Pet Sematary.House was creepy as fuck too.
>>220202583>old building in the middle of the woods>thunderstorm outside>back facing open door>ouija board>old crt>rocking chair and/or wheelchair
>>220202661New house builds rarely have creepy as fuck little doors and cubby hole things. That's something you only get at grammas
>>220202718This house was probably built in the late 1800s/ early 1900s, so yeah.
I'm trying to remember the title of a k-horror I saw years back. A writer gets transported to a world that's full of discarded things, it ends with the double twist that the kid she met there was her own aborted son and in fact she's not actually the real writer, she's the version of herself from an autobiographic novel she decided not to write. That sound familiar to anyone?
>>220202680>>old crtI feel like something on physical media takes it up a notch too, especially if you're somewhere with no internet/cell service. Streaming while connected and possibly distracted by a phone can kill immersion. Like watching The Ring on VHS is inherently scarier than on Netflix or wherever it is these days
>>220202787Everyone knows ghosts only haunt old radios, tvs, and occasionally security cameras. The haunted videogame idea has legs but probably not for a film.

>>220202900god what I would do to put a chestburster in her
>>220203005uhh, whats the name of this kinography?
It's a very particular vibe. When I was growing up, my folks and I would often rent these little cottages, log cabins in the woods or on a lake. We'd often do these roadtrips in Northern New England, New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont. My first time watching a bunch of horror, scfi and b-movies were at these cabins. I think the first horror movie I ever watched was "Tremors" that was at the cabin. Also watched the Premier of Gravity Falls at the cabin, back in 2012.
>>220203445Lucky. I do have a similar memory though, staying in a motel and they'd have the movie channels. I remember watching half of Predator with my Dad til I was forced to go to bed. But then I watched some more of it through a crack in the door til I really told to get my ass in bed.
>>220197449The one whose titties I wanted to see is the one whose titties I saw
>>220200252I love Monique Gabrielle. Did she even do much horror? It doesn't matter, I associate her with Evil Toons first and foremost.
>>220201479>KotokoMega based alert, Tsukamoto doesn't get talked about enough here. I guess because he doesn't really do horror anymore.
>>220203784She's a true dame in Deathstalker II, not horror or even the best Deathstalker film but you'll fall in love twice over. She also guest stars for one scene in Not of This Earth which is worth seeing for picrel.
>>220203800true but also the horror he does/did was so big (relatively) it's still surprising to me. Tetsuo, kotoko, as an actor in Ichi, marebito, the most terrible time in my life (not /hor/ but real jp film autists know), etc. It's like if we had a gangster/mafia movie general where people barely mentioned Kitano.
>>220203912I haven't gotten around to watching Deathstalker 2 but I used to watch a lot of Best of the Worst so of course I know about it and her role in it. It only makes me love her even more. >>220203996Yeah, in a conversation about the greats of Japanese horror he'd definitely be discussed. As a fellow J-horror autist his work is in my brain forever. I find that it's hard to recommend him generally though, given the oddball nature of his movies. Something like Tetsuo would be more accessible as strange as that sounds but even that has bizarro shit like the drilldick etc. that makes you think twice before recommending.
>Spider Horror 'Crawlers’ releasing in theaters this October>"It masterfully blends edge-of-your-seat thrills with the high-octane fun we’ve come to expect from the producers of John Wick."
>>220204162Yeah for some reason I've always felt his stuff came across as more oddball / "perverse" somehow than, say, Miike for example. More psychologically insidious. Actually, anyone mentioned Writhing Tongue yet? Picrel. Could technically be classified as a drama orz but for any other /hor/fags who like a good psychological more than slasher, it's worth it. Watching it once I got a family of my own really fucked me up for a while.
>>220204448pic didnt attach, I am retarded
Finished Aliums. You know as good as all the alien stuff is what stood out is how well the setup of Ripley and Newt is. There's a Speilberg-esque feeling to it, just a perfectly weighted movie. I suppose because it became the template of what an action movie should be.Also the physicality of practical sets and effects stands out so much compared to modern movies. Especially the power loader vs. queen.
>>220199299Saw this with my buddy last night. I didn’t have high hopes after Caveat or Oddity, but I thought it was great. Agree with all of your points. Anyone have a rec for something on hbo max?

Do you like webcam/video chat FF movies? Do you like twist endings? Then you should give this a watch. Pretty unhinged and a bit chaotic at times. I enjoyed it.

>>220206711Sort of great, sort of the worst game you ever played. It's good at creating tension and it's great right up until you get a gun, and then it's a shambling horror of a game.
>>220208826The gun sections are annoying because the ammo supply is extremely tight. Even a single missed shot can screw you up later at some points and you can't really tell if you've screwed yourself until it eventually happens. Aside from that, it's pretty cool in a lot of ways.

>>220200279Fine, I'll watch the trailer.*does so*I don't get it. Is this one of those movies that was given a title from an IP the studio owns to try to elevate its profile/keep the rights to that IP?Anyways, doesn't look very intredasting, and anyone involved in Barbarian is an automatic red flag. Probably won't watch it.
Movie lineup for tomorrow morning:>They Will Kill YouGiving it a fair chance>Popeye's ReturnSequel to the absolute dogshit PD movie Popeye's Revenge. I'm just a glutton for shitty PD horror movies.>True FearI only know two things about; it's FF and it's Swedish. I see FF, I watch. Simple as.

>>220200411It's set to take place during RE2 but from the perspective of the protagonist who is just a random guy instead of following Leon or Claire. There almost certainly will be references to the games, whether that's good or bad we'll just have to wait and see.

>>220213487Hell yeah. The first Lovecraft film adaption and one of the most accurate in tone to his stories. I think it's underrated in Price's filmography.

>>220216994>Also what's the sauce?Night Has Come. It's a 12-episode TV show (7 hours long). >And after you tell me the sauce then tell me if it's any goodI enjoyed it. If you're into death/elimination game stuff, then you'll enjoy it. Has enough moving parts, mystery, and an elimination every episode. I found it worth my time. The 2nd half of episode 12 might piss people off though.
>>220217113Is perfectly fine. If you want more traditional acting, there's plenty of SK movies & shows for that.
>>220215739You'd think Troma of all producers would see the value in shooting on film. The lane for traditional looking films is wide open and nobody wants to take it.
>>220217552>kaufman is a sellout with no integrityImagine my shock.
>>220217552>value in shooting on filmFilm is really expensive, not even huge budget hollywood movies will shoot on film anymore
>>220204915>newtBitch was the worse thing about the movie.
>>220217949You mean besides One Battle After Another & Jurassic Park Rebirth that were shot on 35mm and cost 150m+?
>>220218071There are some exceptions like Oppenheimer >1,000 feet of 35mm film typically lasts approximately 11 minutes>A 1,000-foot roll of fresh 35mm motion picture film generally costs between $800 and $900For 60 minutes you need a minimum 5.5 roles if you can get every shot in 1 take and waste none.>at $850 = $4675That's without film lab processing costs, which are also very expensive
>>220218071best i can do is two locations and paying a bunch of models $50 to show their tits
>>220216838>>220217147I literally just went through those Corman Poe movies over the last week at night. Fucking amazing. Wish there were another 30 of those, wouldn't mind similar premise and set. Fucking cash.
>>220217949Meh I think it's more about flexibility that directors like. But at the end of the day, people are starving for a Troma film that actually looks like one.Not sure you can actually buy it yet but still waiting for Mr. Melvin https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7djANCEf1hk
>>220213563No, they are not white.
oh that reminds mewhere and when the holy fuck is adam chaplin 2is it even exists
>>220218123It just doesn't really matter anymore. Modern lenses and editing make film look more like digital, but for more of the cost and hassle. You're just going to immediately transfer it to digital anyway for editing, effects, audio, etc. The only main downside to digital is a fixed resolution.
>>220218123But realistically, you're going to do multiple takes an reshoots and even 11 *rolls wouldn't be sufficient, and now we're getting into the 10k+ range just doubling the amount
>>220218170You should also watch the Hammer Horror movies and Amicus too. The 60s and 70s were a great time for horror.
>>220218278>Modern lensesDigital cameras have extremely shallow depth of field also though and that's because of the sensor. Some can't even get the hair and face in focus at the same time
>>220218537If that's the look the director wants, it'll happen regardless. You can just as well get that look by shooting on film and then editing it afterward. It's actually probably easier to just do it in post.
>>220218659This video was shot on a Canon 1D, it was one of the best cameras during the DSLR era, but you can just see how shallow this depth of field ishttps://youtu.be/4F-CpE73o2M?list=RD4F-CpE73o2M&t=32

>>220216838>Lovecraft film adaptionIt's Poe, no? Roger Corman did several movies in the 60s that are based on Poe works and Vincent Price is in almost all of them. A very young Jack Nickholson also.
>>220219367It's named after a Poe poem but the story is an adaptation of The Case of Charles Dexter Ward.
