>>220270266This is another I think was made for a niche audience, those with some kind of knowledge or background in Western occultism. The Abramelin work is based on a real set of occult ceremonies which was popularized by Aleister Crowley (the house where Crowley performed the Abramelin rituals was famously later owned by Jimmy Page and then later burned down). The film does take plenty of creative liberties with it, but at its core it portrayed it accurately. It involves prolonged isolation and rigid asceticism, and its purpose is "knowledge and conversation with the holy guardian angel," although irl occultism makes no claims of wish granting when contacting the HGA. Most occult horror uses the occult as a backdrop and an excuse to get the characters embroiled in supernatural hijinks, but A Dark Song is a drama and fantasy horror meant to be rooted in what occult practice is actually supposed to be like. I don't think it is the kind of thing which would appeal to most people.

>>220274103"Ben" (often referred to as "Ben's Song") is a song written by Don Black and Walter Scharf for the 1972 film of the same name (a spin-off to the 1971 killer rat film Willard). It was performed by Lee Montgomery in the film and by Michael Jackson over the closing credits.

>>220276656I was thinking it's because they actually look and feel like horror movies. Decent cinematography, lighting, structure. That and a bit of the zany early 2000s editing styles. The 2000s horror is the quintessential 'flick' as opposed to a kino. Holds your attention throughout and aims to entertain.

Take Dark Castle films like Thirteen Ghosts and House of Wax, or even Silent Hill. With inflation, the budgets of these would be like $80m. Who gets that money now? >>220278033Speaking of Robert Patrick, I watched this last night. It was alright, some pacing issues but fairly stock standard people trapped in an evil hospital type of movie. Primarily it's a practical effects/gore showcase and in that it does pretty well especially one scene in particular towards the end. But yeah Patrick plays an evil doctor named Dr. Benway which is funny. His assistant in the film was played by the same actress who was John Connor's foster mother in T2 also, who the T1000 shapeshifted into while on the phone to John, so that was a nice touch.

I'm sure I would have enjoyed it more had I seen it in the kinoplex. One of these days I'll get around to watching the rest of them but as you know there are various kinos to be viewed and precious little time.
>>220279396ask her what Vera Farmiga smells like
>>220279480Even though I'll be quite drink at the event, I'm too shy to actually ask questions. From past experience, though, there'll be plenty of crowd participation. The last time I saw an actress do a Q&A there, it was Geretta Geretta talking about her experience on Demons (1985). As was the case then, I anticipate just listening to whatever happened on set and whatever quirks there were to the production
>>220279430I heard it described as mean-spirited, and I can see that. At the same time, though, I feel like a real horror movie almost has to be, otherwise it’s really just what I’d consider dark fantasy or “supernatural thriller.” There were aspects of this one that felt like a truer adaptation of Pet Sematary than we’ve yet gotten.
>>220279726I was very split on it, it was too long and yeah like Evil Dead Rise felt at times antagonistically sad. On the other hand, the SFX were excellent and all the Sam Raimi worship in the direction was too. I'll look forward to what he does next as a director.

Watched "Color out of space" two days ago, I would've enjoy it more if it wasn't for the epilepsy inducing/triggering lights.saw it's inspired/based on a HP Lovecraft book, any other good movies inspired by Nigger man's owner?

>>220282926>but surprisingly few manage to capture his work. This is what I mostly hear as a comment whenever I look up for a movie or tv series inspired by him. I will watch this movie because it looks interestingThank you!

That was also the first adaption of his works, though ironically named after a Poe story to masquerade as other Vincent Price/Poe adaptions.

>>220278625Cregger has stated that what he's doing with RE is a story he's had in mind and wanted to tell whether or not it would be part of the RE franchise. So I am expecting it to be good, but I doubt it will do much for Resident Evil fans looking for something accurate to the games.

Exit 8 has been getting a lot of hype for something so mediocre
The 2010 Elm Street is underrated
>>220286349Yep. Aside from casting <<that guy, and a few decently creepy scenes, it's pretty lackluster for the most part. Even kinda boring at times.
>>220286387It was completely shit on when it came out. I honestly haven't seen it since, so I have no clue what I'd think watching it again. The micro-naps is a great concept though and wish another movie would explore it.
early webrips leave me disappointed, too much garbling and pixelpoofing.
Fuck you I like it Sure, the original is way better, but the remake has its charms.

>>220287270You're incredibly stupid.
Ended up checking out Forbidden Fruits last night. Honestly, all it did was make me wanna rewatch Mean Girls and The Craft, two much better films FF is largely indebted to. Lili Reinhart killed it but the comically gruesome deaths near the end were too little, too late. It's not even a horror until over an hour in. Also, it sucks the cute boy didn't get more screentime.
>>220287937I quite enjoyed it, comfy clique movie with a slasher finish.
>>220287838There are serious concerns about your presence in this general. You might want to pay more attention to how you present yourself, it gives off a moronic loser impression.
>>220288022Did I ask for your advice? Fuck off.>>220288019That's fair. I liked it overall, there was just something missing compared to other witchkino. It was amusing how much Reinhart looked like Dakota Johnson.

in 2001 I saw an episode on TV that stuck with me ever since and I never knew what it was from before today when I finally found it:Night Visions E03 "A View Through the Window".That final shot of the kid banging on the inside of the bubble with a bloody femur was great, as was the reveal of the pretty woman.
Finished The Fuzzies.Honestly it feels like way more of an extended Goosebumps or Are You Afraid of the Dark episode with higher budget than pure horror, down to the conclusion even. It's all practical effects/puppetry at least. No blood whatsoever as well but some of the set design is nice. And the two main girls look pretty in a natural unbogged way that's rare in low budget nuHorror.Mr. Crockett & Banana Splits Movie are basically the same premise but with gore and more visceral horror, while Fuzzies is mostly just silly and whimsical tier of horror fitting a kid's horror show.

Watching through a bunch of old horror franchises in release order. Did Wes Craven's New Nightmare yesterday and found it underwhelming. Now, I will freely admit I am a gooner and spent the entire movie getting distracted by how pretty Heather Langenkemp was. But even without that, the Freddy wasn't especially scary nor did I ever really feel the stakes.

i've asked this like 4 times and i'm sorry to ask again but there's a movie with a generic name like CULT OF THE DEMON where a ritzy couple is involved and satan but it's actually good. the special effects are really badd but the premise is worth it.
