Been playing Star Trek Resurgence and Star Trek Voyager Across the Unknown recently, they are actually kino based on old Trek and clearly made by fans of those shows. Would strongly recommend to anyone in /trek/, particularly Resurgence if you're not much of a gamer as it's less challenging.

I want the SNW ending to be disastrously awful. Like having Spock be the one who ends up in a wheelchair. Pike takes on a desk job and Kirk becomes irrelevant or dies. It needs to be a reflection of what NuTrek has done to the Star Trek brand.

I played Starship Creator a quarter century ago too, sadly the disk for that and both Armada games is lost to time. It wasn't very good but I played the shit out of it as a kid. The gameplay was you got send your ship on automatic unconrollable little missions and random shit would happen to it and it would succeed or fail based on how appropriate the equipment you'd installed on the starship was to the encounter. Honestly the Voyager game does a pretty good job of feeling like that, you can build Voyager internally how you like, fill it with rescued Borg instead of Starfleet, turn it into a warship, even rescue Tuvix

First thing I did, that and let that one Kazon dude become part of the ship. I don't think the makers knew what to do with him because he later betrays you and if you forgive him he just doesn't do shit for the rest of the game. He's there, but they just didn't write that far.

I'm pretty sure Starship Creator is on Archive or any number of abandonware sites, but it probably wouldn't work right on modern machines.

I also kept the human and Klingon Torres' separate for the extra crew member, thanks Vidiian tech. I really wanted to save Ransom and the Equinox crew since that's my favourite episode of Voyager but that sector was the most difficult by far, I had to speedrun it just to get through it without losing to the constant hull damage. I picked the easiest mode but still ran into a lot of trouble at times. I also lost Seven of Nine when she was on an away mission and I went to the next sector aaaaaaaaargh

the kazon doesnt always betray you, just if you fuck around a little too much with the trabe. also considering you could keep normal b'elana and her klingon half, it always bugged me that you couldnt keep tuvok, neelix, and tuvix considering thomas riker shows the transporter doesnt have to completely remove the original in processing the sequence. fun game though, I just wish there were more away missions and it wasnt so easy to pass by unlocks and quests without ever realizing

>it always bugged me that you couldnt keep tuvok, neelix, and tuvix considering thomas riker shows the transporter doesnt have to completely remove the original in processing the sequence
Same, you've got the Tuvix pattern right there just make a new one after you split the first back into their original parts. But that draws uncomfortable notions of life and death so the transporter can't work that way, unless it's an accident for one episode.

they're the cia and the movie copped out with a heist just star wars did with rogue one. hollywood is too scared of the cia to do believable shadow war stories, garak is the best we got which is pretty great to be fair but more would be appreciated.

Thomas Riker is way more interesting than William Riker.

I wonder if it's a case of the writers being too dumb to understand how a clandestine conspiracy works or if "corrupt, shadowy members of an intelligence agency" was too similar to right-wing conspiracy theories and they didn't want to feel like they were validating them.

NTA but I can tell by your post that you've never had a meaningful platonic friendship with another man.
>>
>>220274159
>>220274229 is right. The essence of male friendship is insulting each other and helping each other with difficult tasks (usually moving heavy objects or fighting in a war).
Fun fact. Meany and Siddig El Fadil El Mahdi Ibn Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious developed a similar friendship over one being Irish and the other being (half) English
>>
>>220274229
Why? Because I made fun of two Star Trek characters? You're deranged and probably homosexual.
>>
>>220274341
Well, if you were just being completely irreverent, sure but typically people who inappropriately attribute homosexual overtones to platonic male friendships just have zero experience with them and because they have no basis for realistic comparison, they assume some sexual element is in play.

Bashir/Garak shippers for example. Well, most shippers really going back to the Kirk/Spock days.
>>
DS9 > ENT > TNG/TOS > VOY
>>
>>220274376
That's all very pseud and nice and all but in DS9 there was specifically an awkward comedic scene where O'Brien said he liked Bashir more than his wife. Btw you're the loser wishing you had their friendship because, ironically, you've never had any close friends in your life. From our exchange I can see why.
>>
Me and my best male friend have said "I love you" to each other before. No homosexuality even present.
>>
>>220274274
Other fun fact, at the start of the show Avery approached Sid talking solidarity about how the two of them were the only brown people on the show. Siddig replied that he's British and doesn't have that racial baggage.

You're just proving me right, anon. There's nothing gay about a man preferring his male friends to his wife. If you don't prefer your male friends to your wife, you either don't have any close male friends or you don't have a wife.

No. It's the fact that admitting you'd rather spend time with your male friends instead of your wife is awkward because at the surface level it seems inappropriate somehow. But the reality is that most people prefer sharing the company of people they have the most in common with and most men have more in common with their close friends than they do with their wives.

I love my wife. We're great for each other but our differences work to our advantage and one of the strengths of our relationship is that we both have our own friends and are content in our separate spheres as well as being content together.
Being able to function independently is pretty important to a sustainable long-term relationship.

Personally, I think if you go on and on about how you love your wife and you have no male friends, you are an effeminate faggot.

There is nothing more heterosexual and manly than hating your wife and spending 8 hours a day drinking in your garage either alone or in the company of other men who also hate their wives. It's just part and parcel of the American experience and if you don't get it, well, you must be some sort of limp-wristed European jackanape.

>>
>>220275466
The beginnings of 'shipping' are no mystery. And yes, Kirk/Spock was one of the first big 'shippings' in our pop culture history anyway but the reason is that the original Trek had a decent amount of female fans, and women don't really understand that sort of strong platonic male friendship because they rarely form those types of non-competitive relationships with other women, particularly when they're younger (and most shippers are younger, as it's kind of a childish fantasy to begin with).

Leonard Nimoy in particular always had a strong female following which really bothered him as he explained in his book I Am Not Spock.

It's just normal explaining. Calling it "mansplaining" is revealing far too much information about yourself.

Anyway, I was there in the 70s in the conventions, interacting with the very autistic, lonely women who wrote these shipping fanfictions and sold them for a dime in custom bindings. They were largely what were then referred to as "spinsters" and most of them fetishized Nimoy. Again, he talks about it extensively in his aforementioned book. I'd say it's even a central theme of it.

Well, y'see, fella, TOS that was made way before we had like modern storytelling techniques or like plot and character arcs or even character development, I mean sure those things had existed in literature and drama to some extent, but in television they were late coming, worldbuilding techniques, too. Even TNG was kinda there on the cusp between classic and more modern television in terms of story-telling, character development, worldbuilding, serialized elements. Like DS9 was one of the first shows of that like new era of television creation. Of course, now we have all these great and developed techniques but they're only used in service of godawful slop content.

It's an easy thing to forget. As later episode develop her backstory and motivation she becomes sympathetic. Most media trains us to think of morally grey characters as someone good turning bad, it's rarer to have a villain who we learn has the potential to be better.

No, Star Trek was highly episodic. It reset to status quo everytime, well, no, they did have the fucking Organian Treaty as a piece of continuity mentioned once.

You can't buy it now since the license holders pulled it from stores last month, but it's easy enough to pirate. I find the story very fun and it's great seeing all the fantastic sets and the DS9 uniforms and all that. It's definitely dialogue driven, the gameplay is essentially infrequent quicktime events, and these are the weakest part of the game because the story and design work is so strong.

It is a little bit woke (too many ethnic characters primarily) but nothing like nuTrek wokeness, mostly in the lower decks and extras. Of the officers we see (the entire command crew plus others not from the Resolute), I think only the doctor is non-white, she's black, but they got rid of her filthy dreads from the previews which feels like a concession to non-wokeness. The story isn't woke although at one point you are asked to choose between a civilised race and their savage servant race with the implication that the latter is being exploited, you can choose either and I chose the civilised race quite happily.

It was filmed at the same studios as the Stargate shows and it even shared some executive producers too. The first generation of the Asgard puppets were modified greys from an Outer Limits episode. A lot of the military base or futuristic sets in Outer Limits were just redressed Stargate Command sets too.

A part of the disconnect of gay shipping between men and women is that women are inherently more aesthetically bisexual than men but are incapable of being sexually satisfied by other women because they lack the phallus (this is why lesbian domestic violence is so high, an incapability of being satisfied).
Girls in their youths will have intense near-romantic friendships but will cut it out because they understand they can't be sexually satisfied with each other. So women look at men and their friendships and think 'you can be both romantically and sexually satisfied by each other because you have a phallus, why don't you?' and project it onto them, not understanding that men are less inherently aesthetically bisexual than they are.

It all comes down to biology. Men are hunters: plan and threat analysis. Women are gathers: plan and social analysis. Women are biologically more incline to like romance in fiction, and inject it where there isn't any. And men are more inclined to autistically map out and powerscale fiction.

This has always been my headcanon. Sloan is basically just like the Admiral antagonist from the Homefront 2-parter: one guy LARPing and maybe a handful of friends going along with him even if they're not fully on board. The difference this time is that the war is causing more and more higher-ups to look away, creating the illusion that there really is this powerful shadow organization. So now even admirals assume it must be a real thing.

>skip most episodes of seasons 1 & 2
a star trek staple recommendation. star trek was mostly filmed on a tight budget and deadline, so the earliest episodes tend to have less sets, set pieces and the actors still trying to figure out their characters.
>my curated tng season 1 list
1/2 Encounter at Farpoint
13 Datalore
15 11001001
19 Coming of Age
20 Heart of Glory

25 Conspiracy
26 The Neutral Zone

That right there highlights the fundamental misunderstanding of the material that nutrek fell into.
Section 31 is NOT the CIA, because the CIA is actually acknowledged to exist. They post youtube videos talking about their diversity hires for fucks sake.
Section 31 isnt the CIA, its a black project that officially doesnt exist that gets their funding on the ass-end of some 700-page farm subsidy bill that no one ever reads but always has uncharacteristically bipartisan support. In order for section 31 to actually get away with the shit they do, the feds need total deniability - they dont have a section 31, they offically and categorically deny the existence of any group called section 31, anyone claiming to be section 31 was either a private actor or being decieved by some other group, etc.

>>220284693
star trek is relatively low budget originally. the transporter, whacky aliens dressed in lost&found bin costumes, bridge organized like a theater stage all came from creative approaches to limited resources.
later series still have to deal with the fact that any season 3 has more stock footage of the ship, planets and more ready built setpieces for more rooms or varied alien planets to visit as well as developed characters and actors settled into their roles

This is how they should have made a section 31 series
>cooler, more prestigious ship is at earth spacedock for a overhaul/crew reassignment, fuck make it the Titan and have Riker make a cameo
>lieutenant protagonist having a not entirely pleasant conversation with Riker about being reassigned, insists its punitive
>Riker swears up and down they've butted heads more than a few times but he's always respected the kid, reminds him of him, says he even argued to keep him but the reassignment comes from higher than he has any pull on, nothing he can do.
>protag has been assigned to some fucking bullshit Oberth in a galactic backwater cataloging nebulae, career death sentence, all signs pointing towards him ending up like Picard if he didnt get stabbed in the heart
>SURPRISE COCKSUCKER ITS A FRONT
>he meets all the criteria for a section 31 agent, the oberth is actually crewed entirely with section 31 misfits and they operate with a sick-ass stealth shuttle with a sub-space -transwarp-inside out space vagina drive that can get them all over the place fast as fuck
>rest of the series is basically Star Trek: Mission Impossible

It's good, overhated because it was so different from TNG/DS9/VOY era trek. It's not as good as TNG or DS9 but I'd say it's about on VOY level of quality for the most part. Season 3 is absolute kino and does VOYs concept better than VOY did. Season 4 is also really good. Seasons 1 and 2 are good but have some low points.

Overall 4 seasons was never enough to let the show find it's footing and it basically got canned while it was starting to get into it's groove.

desu I really like the aesthetics of enterprise. giving archer a tiny cabin that he constantly has to duck in to avoid hitting his head and all of the other submarine like construction of the ship did a good job setting the tone for the era. the temporal cold war was a dog shit idea with a bad execution, but all of the andorian stuff, season 3, and the fall out in season 4 was as great, and I wished voyager had more of the cumulative damage they had enterprise take. that's just my opinion though

ENT? It fucking sucks but it's still mandatory viewing. Even if it's bad Star Trek, it's still Star Trek and is markedly different from the Nu-Trek abominations which follow.

I do not respect anyone who types in all lower case because the nutrek spammer also types in all lower case. I must hereby determine that you are the nutrek spammer and that you are in fact gay as hell and a homosexual faggot.

No man, fuck you. Your "just ignore it bro" strategy didn't do shit for ten years. TEN YEARS of Nu Trek shit and people like you just kept your mouths shut, "focused on the good stuff," and didn't do shit about it.

Meanwhile, I'm on the front lines. I'm rallying opinion against this garbage. I'm retweeting it to media outlets who pick it up to make fun of it. I'm engineering public outcry over how terrible it is, and generating bad publicity that genuinely hurts Kurtzman and co.
So fuck you, you're no better than a Cardassian collaborator.

Yeah bro you caught me, I'm a "word of mouth marketer" when I say Alex Kurtzman and his jew entertainment lawyer wife and all of their flunkies should be subjected to the bronze bull tortures of ancient Greece before being shot out of a cannon into the sun.

THIS will make people watch Starfleet ACKademy

No. They ignored STD and tried to ignore Picard but ACK was so bad that it could not be ignored. The public outcry finally became mainstream enough for them to mothball the entire franchise for a while. Thank God.
