Thoughts on Hokum? I thought the movie had an excellent build up and a solid narrative only to completely undermine itself with the witch's design. I saw a still of this thing before the movie and assumed it was the witch. I even thought it looked a little goofy from the still, but when I saw it on the big screen with the appropriate build up it was genuinely frightening. But then it just turns out the witch is an old lady...wow...an old day...terrifying. The movie also failed to establish her as a physical threat until the very end of the movie so having her just ominously walking towards Adam Scott while cackling was getting old, especially again, when she's literally just an old lady. They had a creepy design with this bunny thing so why not just make that the witch?

I'm sure film snobs will turn their nose up at the idea of making this bunny design the witch and will insist making the witch just an old lady was actually super genius and high IQ film making, god forbid someone puts actual fucking effort into the villain of their horror movie.

Still a solid movie overall, just the tension completely deflated when the actual witch showed her face. The TV scene was 10/10. Wish the genuinely scary build up built up to something that was actually scary instead of...an old lady.

They make good television and film, though even their stuff is in decline. Fortunately there's a backlog of 20 years of good tv and 30 years of good movies to pull from. I can't speak on the quality of their horror content as I don't really watch it outside of Revenant and a couple movies.

They basically stole J-Pop and said "we can do it better" and did so. They went full in on streaming services, especially with Netflix. The major thing that pushed them to the top was Squid Game. It released at the perfect time and became a global hit. That and BTS made everyone, including the West, turn their attention to South Korea.

I was pretty disappointed the day I watched it, but after a few days I feel a lot more positive about the film.
As a horror movie it's a 6/10 but as a drama it's closer to an 8 in my opinion.
The final shot with the conquistador was pure kino.

Some films are growers. Also I think the conquistador wraparound is one of the best things I've ever seen in a film. It is the stuff of some kind of Citizen Kane epic.
I also think the "there's a man in your house" dilemma in Oddity is similarly more brilliant than anything that surrounds it. He has a gift with these moments.

I watched Anaconda for the first time in ages. I'm not even sure why, but there's something extremely satisfying and comfy about J Lo picking up a rifle and blowing the first one's brains out. The gun doesn't jam, it's not out of ammo, the snake doesn't swat it away, the bullets don't bounce off of it or some other contrived bullshit. It's just a big, retarded animal and dies like one. The movie should have just ended there desu.

I really liked this shit. Gonna check out caveat and oddity tonight as well because this director had slipped by me to this point somehow. The rabbit isn’t the witch btw this all ties into the main characters muh trauma which I guess is getting old, but this shit didn’t overstay its welcome and was purely expository. When I saw the whole kid with a gun plot thread I really thought we might get some bleeding heart beating you over the head about heckin’ guns being evil, but like I said it’s purely expository. I guess you can read that from it thematically, but I’m not going to choose to. The whole thing came across to me a bit like the innkeepers in the beginning with all of the atmosphere and ghostly happenings but stuff begins to happen much quicker and you get a fully fleshed out plot line that just so happens to have supernatural elements. I also really loved when the forest shroom dude is talking about seeing the ghost he mimes the creepy way she pointed towards the bell. You can tell the writers liked that too because they make a point to revisit it when they go back to the hotel. I like that a lot because it points out a trope you never really notice unless you think about it, but how many times in a film has a character told a story, shown a cutaway of that story they’re telling, only to cut back to them standing there plainly talking to the other person? A real person telling a story would physically show you the weird ass uncanny movements and shit that the ghost did.

I like the wraparound too because at about 80-85 minutes in when you think the films almost over you have ohm in the suite in the circle of chalk and for a second you think that the bleak ending he had written at the beginning is going to play out for him and that he’s just going to be stuck there until he’s dead, only for him to live and create the good ending to his novel even if he couldnt resist writing in the snarky bit about the kid having thrown the bottle right next to the hard object they couldn’t find.

Never said that, but cool strawman. SEA doesn't have entertainment on the global stage like SK & Japan does. What they do have are basically just modified versions of Japan and SK, but worse. Even with other East Asian countries like China, it's more the same of what you get from SK & Japan, but worse as well. Again, they too don't have anything on the global stage. >movie A is woke because the women are ugly
>movie B isn't woke because the men are attractive
You're gay as fuck. If you thought the men were unattractive, then you'd say Predator was woke. You said it's not woke, which means you think the men are attractive. Again, you're gay as fuck. Sorry you had to find out this way. There is another option where you admit you're a fucking retarded ideologue that needs to stay off /pol/ and stop watching political jewtube videos that are from your ideological bubble.

Really, PD horror is absolute shit on average. There's only 2-3 I think I've seen that are actually good.

Like I said, they were set up to die. If you're not into Uwe Boll levels of raw, unfiltered inanity though, that's Fine. I'll say this, if those dogs had been in Fall, they'd have all made it down fine.

No, she was invited to a party by her bosses. They weren't fellow residents like she was. If you're a woman, especially a young attractive woman, and your bosses invite you to a party, you're a retard if you go.

I can concede that her superiors at her job are not necessarily her colleagues, particularly for a medical resident. In the context of the film, she is portrayed as a highly promising recruit who has some issues with the faculty supervising her. She was chasing status insofar as it would further her career, by demonstrating good faith.

She had no reason to believe that by going to an apartment gathering that she would have egregious sex crimes committed to her.
