I don't hate Neelix, but I've always been confused about what their goal with the character was. Were we supposed to find him adorable? Funny? Was he the audience self-insert as seen in some of the earlier episodes where he would comment on established Trek tropes like flying into anomalies and the Prime Directive?I like how he looked in the pilot and think that junkyard vibe would've been a better direction to take the character than frycook. Having the cooking delegated to a single character meant they deprived themselves of having scenes like Riker scrambling eggs.

I think the new phase of Star Trek shows has been great and STA is a continuation of that. The production value is incredible, the cast is diverse and talented, and the storytelling is more nuanced and character-driven than ever before. The new series has managed to honor the legacy of the original while also pushing the franchise in new and exciting directions. I can't wait to see what the future holds for Star Trek.
