They rated this film "X" --- how?!?! (The Witches 1966)There's one off-screen death and the main witch faints to death at the sight of some drops of blood at the end. How shocking. Some anon recommended this to someone looking for folk horror in a previous thread. But the coven is modern and the witch that founded it says in the film that she translated an old Latin book to get her spells. It's basically 1960s countryfolk with too much spare time on their hands participating, nothing grown or with an older tradition.

Hey /hor/. I'm trying to find the name of a horror film I saw on VHS way too young. The only aspects I can recall are a really hot tall woman who gets decapitated, a snake that kills a kid (I think), some kind of a bonfire, and a synth heavy soundtrack. Any ideas? It's been nagging me for years. It's probably European.

>>221205641>They rated this film "X" --- how?!?! (The Witches 1966)Early film ratings were much more strict, and judged based off different criteria. “X rated” was supposed to mean for adults, with “adult themes and content” like “Midnight Cowboy” which was rated X due yo the sexual nature of the story, involving prostitution rape and homosexuality. The “X” rating was never trademarked though, so hard core porn, once it became defacto legal to produce, started using “X” and “XXX” as markers for porn, so the MPAA had to come up with “NC-17” as the new “X rating”, and in the interim, films that would have gotten an “X” previously from the MPAA started receiving R ratings. “NC-17” was mostly reserved more for sexual content, or highly explicit nudity, and not for violence, which was one of the things the X rating had been used for. HBO shows routinely feature content nowadays that would have received an X or NC-17 rating back when the rating system was first introduced.

>>221205641That was me, and a lot of the stuff with poppets and charms is classic folk horror trappings. The fact it's a revival doesn't negate that. Karswell's cult in Night Of The Demon is modern afaik, and the paganism in The Wicker Man is only 2 or 3 generations old.
>>221210222She ugly
>>221211831They even made a movie about it
>>221211607All right. I guess I was just disappointed by "The Witches" -- it's basically just the school teacher running around, spending time in a nursing home and then returning to the village for a final scene that involves actual witchcraft. I read that the actress who plays the teacher bought the rights to that story and then pestered Hammer until they made the film.I also watched Night of the Demon the week before last and found the protagonist somewhat arrogant and unlikeable. I found myself siding with the much nicer Dr. Karswell. The Wicker Man I haven't seen in a while, but I liked it. It's more intriguing than The Witches.

Just finished. /hor/'s favorite time traveling jewess is back in a big pile of poo-poo. Basically (spoilers) she's a clone of some brain scientist's wife who died and he has her memories saved in a database of thousands of brainscans but they're all unlabelled for some reason so he has to one by one try out each scan in a new clone until he finds the right one, killing the clone after each time. I think if I'd come up with this I'd have set it aside as just not solid enough, and yeah, watching it it doesn't really make sense and I'm not sure why I'm supposed to give a shit about our heroine.
