kinda been on a mini hammer kick lately and went with captain kronos as my next pick. it's about a former military man turned katana wielding vampire hunter who is on a quest with his hunchback partner and a random tagalong, played by the incredibly gorgeous caroline munro, to find out the source of a series of killings in a small town.it's not an outright horror, but something more comparable to solomon kane in tone. the movie dragged a little and i wish they embraced the action more, but i did enjoy the fight scenes we get and there were a handful of really cool shots

I was like you and kept putting off my health issues until they became unbearable. It was that 'well maybe it'll go away with time' and 'I can handle this pain' crappy mentality all my life. No, thats bs, pain is there for a reason to scream telling you something needs fixed. It isn't something you just deal with. Its like when your flat tire light comes on in your car. Do you ignore it and keep driving? No, you fix that ASAP because its serious. Likewise, take care of yourself because you deserve it. Go to the doctor and dentist regularly for checkups because they can tell us what is wrong and help us out. It could be even something simple like fixing your diet or getting more vitamins, and you'll be suffering over very little.

Lately, I've been binging some creature horrors that ideally take place in a mostly single location. So far:Feast (2005)Splinter (2008)Dog Soldiers (2002)Bleeders / Hemoglobin (1997)Grabbers (2012)Color Out of Space (2019)The Void (2016)The Mist (2007)The Thing (1982 and 2011)Slither (2006)Tremors (1990)Pandorum (2009) (kind of on the edge since the "creatures" are basically humans but I'll allow it)Legion (2010) (the "demons" are mostly basically just humans so that's kinda boring but oh well)What are some obvious films I've missed that fit these criteria?

Man, what a waste of time. ("Gehennna - Where Death Lives" 2016) Annoying characters. Japanese writer and director, which means weird plot and gross out body horror is supposed to equal scary. (Never worked for me.) It was crowd funded so apart from a 1 minute appearance of old, ooold Lance Henriksen the actors are nobodies, and apart from one short hike through nature there's only one set. There's a twist at the end but you can guess what that's going to be right from the beginning.Only a 3/10, sorry.

Just finished. Dull 60s sci-fi/horror. It's right there on the poster. The guy's got a vampire tree. We know he's got a vampire tree practically from the start of the movie. But they waste our time with a whole rigamarole about everyone thinking there's a killer on the loose, and chasing down dudes we know isn't the killer, and it's just a 95% pointless movie. The colors and the Spanish locations are nice, but it's just filler filler filler and none of it is funny or thrilling or sexy or much of anything. We don't even get a 'real' Cameron Mitchell performance out of it because he's dubbed over, no matter what language you're watching in. Anyway, once we finally see it the vampire tree is pretty cool, and the climax is a nutty scene where its branches are getting cut off and blood's spraying out of them like it's Kill Bill, lol. That's the only cool thing in it. It seems like every 60s horror ever is about people gathering at a mansion and wandering around getting picked off. This is one of those, one of those Lisa and the Devil kinda movies. There's no nudity and barely any gore, but then the last ten minutes are bloodbath, thanks to that bleedin' ass tree.

Just finished. aka I Want to Get Even. Ok, it's not /hor/, so I won't linger on it, but this was a fucking nutso rape/revenge movie. Starts with one rape, so the bf of the rapee goes to get revenge by raping the sister of the rapist! Lmao. Then a completely separate character also mad at the rapist rapes his sister as revenge too! So there's three rapes getting revenged, and two of them are on the same girl, kek. Ends with a literal gang war. There's a completely insane subplot about how the bf of the rapee is pushing her to get an abortion because the rape got her pregnant, and it's getting in the way of their *extremely violent lovemaking*. He wants to beat her up during sex but has anxiety over it harming the baby so he's tearing apart inside. One time after she refuses to get the abortion he pushes her out of a moving car! This shit is crazy. It also, astonishingly for a rape/revenge movie, has no nudity! They never take off their underwear.
>>222083875Lmao. This looks like Harperfag’s profile picture on letterboxed.

It actually shattered a 23 year old box office record, dethroning A Tale of Sisters to become the highest grossing korean horror movie of all time.

>>222084990>>222085072>>222085100It actually shattered a 23-year-old box office record, dethroning A Tale of Two Sisters (2003) to become the highest-grossing Korean horror movie of all time. What It's AboutIt combines classic Korean water ghost (muldwoeshin) folk legends with modern tech:The Setup: A street-view mapping crew (using 360-degree cameras and GPS gear) gets sent to a remote, eerie reservoir in Yesan County to reshoot map footage. The Hook: Their initial road-view scan accidentally uploaded a photo showing what looks like a submerged face/figure staring back out of the water. The Escalation: When they arrive at the site to fix the footage and search for a missing colleague, their own camera feeds, drones, and street-view review playback start capturing horrific, unnatural distortions in real time. Why Horror Fans Loved ItCreeping Dread Over Gore: It isn't a slasher or splatter film. It relies heavily on tense sound design (skimming stones, clicking rocks, water splashes) and the constant paranoid feeling of being watched by a dark, murky body of water.Real-Life Hype: The movie was shot on location at an actual reservoir rumored to be haunted in Korea. It caused such a craze that late-night horror tourists started clogging the narrow local roads trying to visit the lake at midnight, forcing local authorities to restrict nighttime access. If you like atmospheric, slow-burn Asian horror centered on local folklore and visual dread, this is definitely one to add to your watchlist

>>222082834Yes, Kurosawa always intended for it to be an unconventional horror film: https://letterboxd.com/journal/kiyoshi-kurosawa-chime-serpents-path-interview/>Q: For the Belfort Entrevues Film Festival, you once played a game of “double features”. With each of your films screened there, you associated a film from your personal pantheon. Which films might you associate with Serpent’s Path and Chime?>A: Regarding Serpent’s Path, it was a film that I made such a long time ago, so I am having a difficult time remembering what headspace I was in back then. This answer is not necessarily limited to Serpent’s Path but, back then, I was making genre films. These V-cinema films were basically yakuza or gangster movies, but I remember I wanted to shoot them as if they were horror films. Even though the genre is that of gangster film, I wanted to shoot it in a way that was horror, in such a way that a ghost or a dead body could appear at any moment.>The reason why I was interested in doing so was actually The Silence of the Lambs—which is a very famous film that many people have seen. I remember being taken by this film, because it was ultimately a crime or detective story, and yet it felt like a horror film. It was shot as if it was a horror film. Of course, there are no ghosts that appear in it, but it still felt like horror.>When I watched this, I felt this was something that perhaps I could replicate while making films in Japan. This is a very specific memory that I have from watching that film. I started to think about how I can shoot non-horror stories to feel like horror stories. Out of that came my film Cure, which was the film I made before Serpent’s Path. Both of these films ultimately are not horror narratives, yet they feel like horror films. His views on horror is very interesting because to a Japanese person, especially from his generation, horror typically just means supernatural ghost stories and then he made one of the GOAT psychological horrors
It feels so different watching a homogeneous modern movie.
