I've recently discovered the Shiraishiverse and it's so absolutely glorious.So far I've seen Noroi, Occult and the first 8 of the Kowasugi-Films.Noroi is by far the greatest kino, also I dare say the greatest found footage ever. Occult was breddy gud too.The Kowasugi series is all over the place in a good way. Started out as more Shiraishi mockumentary kino then goes completely surreal or dare I say lovecraftian dalí-ism. It also flanderizes itself in a very self-conscious way that doesn't take itself too seriously.What most fascinates me is this concept of the horror-mockumentary rather than found footage in the classic sense. Essentially it's just a horror film but with a diegetic camera. At some point it doesn't even try to be actually believable in a "this could actually have happened"-way, it's just fiction but where the camera is part of the movie itself. This is actually low-key brilliant.

Oh man. I mean the first Slumber Party Massacre wasn't very good, and this one's worse. There isn't even a slumber party in this one, or a massacre. Courtney has hallucinations and has an appointment with a psychiatrist on the weekend. But instead she wants to drive out to her friend's parents' house and practice with her girl band, meet some boys and party. But she keeps having hallucinations and weirding everyone out to the point where they have to call the cops, only to find out she imagined the whole thing. In the end it turns out not even the drive to the house with her friends and the boys was real, she was in an institution the whole time and imagined everything, the hallucinations included.2/10 at most. I mean it has some nice looking mid 20 chicks playing 17 yo. high school girls, and it was made in 1987 and back then not everything was gray and depressing, life was still good and affordable. But that's about the only positive things in this movie.

Got around to watching VHS Halloween, not sure why other than because I've watched all the others.What happened to that franchise? 1 and 2 are still top tier, Viral went in a different direction and people hated it (I think the magician segment is the best part of the entire franchise).
