He's Just Crazy Bout This Store edition previous: >>223745128
>>223753116fuck it repostingJust finished. 100<100 #015For a microbudget, the acting is fucking outstanding. For a low budget indie it would be eye-rollingly embarrassing. I got drawn in by the premise that they teased during that opening minute, but the Dollar Store angle gets ignored almost completely. It's another NBK/Man Bites Dog knockoff about a journalist crew tagging along with some murderers (this time it's a couple named Dax and Dixie) and they're killing people associated with forever chemicals into the water supply that gave Dixie's mom terminal cancer. WAY more political than it needs to be, I'm assuming because the filmmakers actually agree with the killers politics. I'm blown away by the competency level here but bored to death with plot and the subject matter.

Barely being able to see any of the action felt like a let down after how much it was built up.>HH2 was prob my favorite one. I actually thought it was scarier than the first one in a lot of moments. The story and cast isnt as strong sadly but in terms of horror yeah this was cool.>HH3 was okay. I got kinda bored in the first half, and the ending was just goofy as fuck. But it wasn't a bad movie. I think it suffered from trying to explain too much. Also that one scene where the woman was waiting for the cameraman in the house and saw the ghost of the previous girl staring at her genuinely got me. Scariest shot in the whole series.>HH4 was pretty good. Didn't really care too much for the main girl but I liked the plot and the scares were really well done. >HH5 fucking sucked donkey dick. >>223754833I think I like 2 the most because of how the structure of the film played out. I was a fan of everything that happened in the hotel but they definitely did some things worse than the 1st movie. I'm glad 4 moved away from the hotel crap at least because 3 movies in it was becoming way too predictable, which is probably why I didnt like 3 that much.I think if 1 had a better final act it would.be the best one in the series but that's just me.
>>223754901the whole film I was thinking, ok so she's playing the sweet elfish character I guess I'm resigned to looking at her huge tits in that outfit. and then at the end they're like, hehe lets rape her! and then make her alter ego get naked!
>Watch this, excited to see totally-not-Nosferatu>when he shows up in the kitchen scene, his face is a rubber mask and he can't even speak>Straker has to tag along to dictate Barlow's evil intentKind of disappointed, but still it's way better than the new movie. >>223754952The first film was by far the best received and I put the rest down to the director being a lorefag and not understanding why people liked the first film. Which is the primarily the creepy clowns.I read reviews of the 5th one before it came out and people complained about this again, so I went into it with a "really pay attention to the lore dumps" mindset and it helped me enjoy it I think. That said I'm glad you enjoyed them, I mean I totally understand why people thought the last one sucked. If you haven't seen Horror in the High Desert I'd give that a spin too.
>>223754969lol, I wonder if this being disappointed by classics thing is common with zoomieswhen I was first getting into horror and watching all of the canon, it felt like everything I saw was great. I was trying to sort what subgenre it was in my head, and of course it's a serial killer picture, but it's also kind of a home invasion epic, lol. It discards the phony psychological gaminess of those and gets straight to the torture. It also has a much funnier, poisonously effective sense of humor than I remembered. Not as impressive as doing it himself like Tobe, but I like that McNaughton got his brother to do the punishing music.Only one in the theater, lol.
>>223759671that's what he excels in after all
>>223759591Thanks anon, you get it. It felt like a massive betrayal of Clive Barker’s story to make it about a finger prick. To some degree, everyone in who falls into the cenobites hands chose to be there, consciously or unconsciously. It turns your desires into something scary, that’s the real horror of it, your own desire bringing you to an unspeakable fate. It felt like the movie visually understood Hellraiser, and in an illiterate sense ignored all of the thematic elements. I’ll even admit that the ending scene of the guy getting turned into cenobite was cool, but the movie fucking sucks and anybody who likes it doesn’t understand or appreciate Hellraiser
>>223759330it's miles better than it should be, although it's a miracle it's even good. it'd be a lot shittier without jason miller too, who is a last minute carry. i haven't seen the workprint but the lack of him probably hurts it and makes it a lot shittier.
Here’s a question for you anons. What stories from Clive Barker deserve an adaptation? His Books of Blood anthologies have some great selections. Gun to my head, “In the Hills, the Cities” would make for an incredible movie in the right hands. Make it gory, play it tragic, make it a disaster movie almost
>>223759863For a reference, Midnight Meat Train is a great example of a movie from those books
>>223759358yeah, it's somehow better than 90% of stuff from this year and it's half comedy ffswatch the new Joko fellas!
>>223759129Yes. It's one of two movies that exists in its respective franchise after all.
should I watch Welcome to Derry if I don't have some affinity for IT that would make me mad? like is it just a bad production or bookfags mad problem
>>223759892Best line in the movie: "Step away from the meat"

>>223759956No, woke series. Too many blacks.
>>223759789There were a lot of cool visuals, although one thing annoyed me there too and annoys me more about all the deviantart "here's my cenobite design!" shit. They always turn the cenos into nude flesh puzzles because they love gore. But the originals were unique specifically because of the leather priest look. Their designs are a visual representation of domination and submission, i.e. extreme dark power (regal black leather) and extreme vunerability/pain (tortured flesh).Making the cenobites nude tips the design in favour of vunerability, to the point when they start fighting them it's like uh ok why not just kick the corpse lady over.
>>223759863He's got some new books on the way, which is cool because even though he's out of the directors game it means the future could see new adaptions
Does anybody else love Queen of Earth? Same director as VHS: Kidprint
>>223759966Add The Thing to the +S tier in the 70’s/80’s category right fucking now or I’m coming to your house immediately to skin your balls
>>223760036I think you might be confused about what that list is
>>223757080Watched it the other day. I felt like the movie wanted to say something about tourists or colonialism taking advantage of 3rd world countries and using money skirt the law but they mostly just kept to themselves and tortured the MC instead of the locals so I guess that wasn't the point.
>>223759330>I certainly don't believe it's on equal footing with the original like some others doFinally someone who says it. I don't know if it's just plain contrarianism or what, but The Exorcist gets disrespected a lot in /hor/
>>223760051I am lol, too many beers. Its obviously a Stephen King tier list after I read it
>>223759980Yeah, man. Way too many black characters that I stopped watching.
>>223760152btw I saw The Thing in a packed theater two nights ago and it played phenomenally, audience was hysterical
>>223760022i had it bookmarked when i was really horny for kate lyn sheil (don't judge me) but i never got around to watching it. surprised elizabeth moss is in it though
>>223760190it's an homage to, of all things, movies like Let's Scare Jessica to Death. Alex Ross Perry is a genius, I don't know why /tv/ isn't more into him.
>>223760186Dude fuck yeah! Thats must’ve been awesome. I would’ve loved to hear the crowd reaction to the defibrillator scene
>>223755312You did all you could, Anon, but sometimes you just gotta throw in the towel and end the season early. End it while you've still got your dignity. No sense in burning yourself out. Half the-- well, almost a half the month is still something, right? Yeah, you might as well wrap it up now...And anyway, I'm sure next year will be different... (huh, deja vu...)
I'm watching Bride of Re-Animator and holy shit the fat detective guy is so fucking gross he has literally negative charisma. It pisses me off when he's on screen. Idk why he's so loathsome but he just is.
>>223760293Is Reanimator banned here?
Resident Evil(2026) or Onslaught tonight.
>>223760190>kate lyn sheilA man of cultcha. I wonder what her deal is since she's not active on social media and hasn't posted anything on her instagram since 2019.
>>223760276the biggest reaction was definitely the head crab trying to sneak out the door behind MacReady. they were really scared he was going to miss it, lol
>>223760310good grief
>>223760290You’re an interesting guy, anon. Btw, you asked last thread how we’re improving for our Octobers? I’ve been getting back into writing as a hobby, I’m doing a couple of short story contests for fun and I’ve been DM’ing a couple of rpg groups. One is a paranormal investigation game and the other is a psychedelic fantasy rpg called Painted Wastelands. Altogether flexing the creative muscle again has been great
>had to pause a movie because I started panicking about my futureHorror can only function as an escape for so long
This was pretty damn good. Definitely an Elm Street 3 rip off but much more grounded and has its own charms that shine forth in the execution.
>>223760211i think anything vaguely mumblecore adjacent turns most people off. haven't seen any of perry's movies but a lot of them seem to cross over into it>>223760342i know she married kyle mooney, prolly became a mom or something quietly behind the scenes. hecking wholesome
>>223760397That's good, Anon. I hope that your endeavors bear fruit
>>223760580Queen of Earth, Listen Up Philip, and The Color Wheel are all in my Top 500. QOE is the only /hor/ related one though.
>>223760310Onslaught
>>223760486Stop considering your enjoyment of your existence as an escape, and acknowledge that you’re participating with the world in everything you do. Just don’t goyslop or vaxxmaxx and you’ll be fine
>>223760293You know what I like about this movie is how Dan always has his shirt off
>>223760673>vaxxmaxx

>>223760486I can barely press play on one some night fast forwarding to more stagnation. the escapism curdled sour

>>223760859I'm going Saturday!
>>223760882>woman be like "NIGGA WHY YOU BRING ME MY KID">2 seconds later woman be like "NIGGA WHAT YOU MEAN YOU TAKING AWAY MY KIDIt gotta be selfaware right?
>>223760965nice! sure to be the highlight of my month. heard it brought the house down at Cannes, can't wait
>>223760726Good. Considering a certain country is committing a thousand My Lai massacres and its ally reveling in carnage, death, and destruction; we're going to be seeing more horror movies about killing nazis in the next couple of years.
>>223760859>>223760965Damn, my theater's not playing it til the end of the month. I have no idea what to expect from the movie either, all I know is it's called The Devils, it has Oliver Reed in it, and everyone seems to love it
>>223754880It always fills me with a sense of pensive resignation and existential dread
>>223756605Agreed anon, absolute dogshit
>>223761061I've seen it before, just not in a theater. It's not horror in the traditional sense, but it's kind of related thanks to the director and the themes/subgenre, and was censored a lot so horror nerds claimed it as their own, kek. I'm a horror nerd, don't get me wrong, but we seem to want to steal everything that's downbeat or violent and claim it for the genre, same way gay guys think everybody is secretly gay, we want everything to be secretly horror, kek
>>223761098I noticed that rape and revenge movies seem to have been absorbed into the horror genre too, even though it's a loose relation
>>223761097It was decent.
>>223761035>Considering a certain country is committing a thousand My Lai massacres South Africa?>and its ally reveling in carnage, death, and destructionThe UN?
i have to hand it to tobe hooper for casting a fat kid as the lead. not many directors have that kind of courage, before or since.
>>223760859I'm seeing it tomorrowI'm expecting this shit to be crazy after seeing Altered States and Lair Of The White Worm It's NC-17 here in the US btw, don't think I've ever gone to the theaters to see a movie with this rating
>>223761154I saw an anon in this very general yesterday claiming Taxi Driver was horror, lol
>>223761187>couragefat kids are kino and good directors have pure kino instinct. directors who dont have fat kids leading their films are flat out shittier directors.

>>223761194it's his Cecil B. DeMille film
gimme a kino that will make me willy big

>>223753870has anyone watched Crystal Lake 2026 series?
>>223759863in the hills the cities is one of his best short stories but it's really hard to not make goofy on screen. I would like rawhead rex, dread or yattering and jack to be remade by somebody competent. Scape goats and hell event could also make a fun 90 minutes horror
>>223760008i just want him to finish the art trilogy. This new collection honestly smells like a scam since not all stories are new and it is hidden behind a kickstarter paywall
