Yes, as far as the original question goes, I agree, What Time Is It There is definitely up there in the ranks. It may be the number one choice, as far as I'm concerned. I agree wholly to that. However, I must point out for everyone's information that the picture in the OP is not Wong's character. It is actually a different Lee Kang-sheng character altogether. These two series are separate. I just have to inform you. And as far as the second question goes, there are so many options to go from. I mean, obviously, I do not care much for the walker as much as many other people do. However, the greatest walkers are the Hungarians. The Sátántangó of eight hours of walking, transcendental meditation. Yes, that is what that film is. The Hungarians have mastered the art of walking, and that knowledge is being transmitted to the Chinese, who are now new masters of walking, as we know from the Hu Bo film An Elephant Sitting Still, which was the critical darling of 2018, or was it '19? I forget. Some of the other great walkers include the Koreans, the Japanese, and occasionally the Mexicans. But that is a very occasional, occasional thing. However, yes, the Hungarians are the masters of the walk, and also the Australians. I forgot to mention the Australians. Walkabout is literally about walking.

It just makes me mad because that Uncle Vanya shit was not in the original short story by Haruki Murakami. I have read the entire book of shorts that was written by Murakami, which has Drive My Car in it. He's not the greatest writer. He's very average. But one thing he's good at is writing short stories. His short stories are very evocative, and they have such a great sense of atmosphere and mystery. It's actually quite, I think, true to call him one of the greatest short story writers. His novels, on the other hand, are not so great. But that is sort of a discussion for another time. The Uncle Vanya stuff and the cuckolding shenanigans were entirely made up by the director, who self-inserted his own revisionism, his own rewrites, his own buffoonery into the source material. It is absolutely disgusting. I was so upset. Three hours that could have been dedicated to the short stories of the author instead were wasted. A brilliant source material wasted on the director's egoism. This is why I hate cinema. It's all egoism. The director ruins everything. The director is such a piece of shit. I'm specifically talking about Hamaguchi. Most other directors in Japan are pretty good at adaptation and at writing their own original material. But modern Japan is just such a hellscape of stupidity, of buffoonery, of cuckoldry, of indulgence, and this Uncle Vanya stuff just proves it. And it just disgusts me, thinking about it now, writing it all out. I mean, I can't help but think how I wasted three hours on the most indulgent, pretentious bullshit I have ever seen. It was just pissing on the source material. If you want to see the best adaptation of Murakami, that would be the Korean film Burning by director Lee Chang-dong. That was one of the great films of the decade.
>>
>>223929503
Can you go watch his new film (All of a Sudden) and tell us how it is.
>>
>>223929503
Interesting about the bad stuff being not in the original book. Makes you think.

>>223929503
>>223929559
Speaking of his newer films, I thought Evil Does Not Exist was decent, better than Drive My Car by quite a bit. Funnily though, it was a 110 minute expansion of an idea for a 30 minute short. I'm noticing that this director has trouble not being bloated with the running times, and only by making a movie about a 30 minute idea can he keep the length reasonable.

Tell you I cannot of Hamaguchi's newest film, for I have forsaken that filmmaker after seeing Asako 1 and 2. This is another film about cuckoldry, although it is not of the correct kind of cuckoldry that is relevant to Japanese society. Rather, it is Japanese-on-Japanese cuckoldry. But I'm just tired of it. This Hamaguchi is clearly obsessed with the subject of cuckoldry, and I will never forgive him for the Uncle Vanya shit. It just, it's impossible. There is no going back after doing such a horrendous revisionist tragedy upon such a good text. And to do so to Murakami, whose shorts are much better than Hamaguchi's bloated, fat, indulgent messes that are resemblant of a toddler sitting in a high chair after taking a bath, forcing his parents to feed him spaghetti, but instead of eating it, he just makes raspberries all over the place with the spaghetti in his mouth. It is like that with Hamaguchi, but on a much more primitive level, native to the Japanese. He makes me so mad. The Uncle Vanya stuff is such a disgusting thing to me that I think I just have to stop writing right now and go throw up.

To be quite honest with you, my good man, I saw the poster and I was very excited to see it, but then I realized that it was a white woman, an Asian woman, and not a heterosexual pairing, and it made me very disappointed. And so I have sworn off seeing that film because I know that Hamaguchi is allergic to good taste and to what is correct and normative and what should be. I believe that the man from Korea, whose name I am forgetting, the one who employs Isabelle Huppert in all of his experimental stuff, he is on the right direction. However, this Hamaguchi continues to prove himself to be a charlatan of such grand magnitude that I have trouble even coming up with a decent analogy to compare.

I don’t think there is a love story between them in the film, but anyways it’s anti-cinema to be against lesbians in film. So I might have to disregard any further opinions from you.
>>
>>223931233
You have misunderstood my intentions, my good man. I am not against lesbians in the cinema. In fact, I am all for lesbians in the cinema. It has made for such great films. Films such as Celine and Julie Go Boating, Blue Is the Warmest Color, and so on and so forth. I implore you to also consider Portrait of a Lady on Fire. I have not seen it myself, but it appears kino. Perhaps you can recommend it. So please do not hold it against me if you misunderstood my old point. My larger point was discrediting Hamaguchi's film because he is a hack and a charlatan, not to denounce lesbianism in the cinema. I apologize for not making that clear. However, my intention was to deride the filmmaker known as Hamaguchi. He is a charlatan and a hack, as I've mentioned. And because of his fascination and fetishization of cuckoldry, that is why I did not trust his instincts and his premise in the film. However, if the screenwriter is someone unrelated to his previous work, I will be open to it.

I have already voiced my opinion on Nathan Fielder before in these threads, but I suppose I am being forced to do so again and say that he hasn't been interesting ever since the series finale of Nathan for You. Because, I mean, The Rehearsal was totally fine. It's totally okay, but it's not necessarily groundbreaking or terribly exciting as Nathan for You was. I mean, Nathan for You was his peak, for sure, in both the documentary, cinéma vérité comedy, but also just in what you can do with the medium and, you know, when you have personality and all of that. I mean, Nathan for You really needs to be experienced. That's the one show I always say really needs to be experienced. I mean, you can't really describe an episode without it sounding totally bonkers, ridiculous, and scripted, even though it really wasn't. I mean, the whole alligator and the Best Buy thing is the stuff of fanfic, I would assume. But anyway, I am digressing way too hard over this, because my ultimate point being that Nathan Fielder, to me at least, hasn't been interesting for a long time, ever since 2016, really. You know, The Rehearsal for me was like a seven out of ten, and this new project, like the other anon said, he is just chasing clout. It feels like Oscar bait. I don't know why he is doing this, but I suppose he is in a very pretentious time in his life.
>>
>>223932579
>I don't know why he is doing this

He's been gassed up by his fans, it happens all the time to people that are trying to be "unique" for attention. This functions best when the fandom is small and they're outsiders. But he crossed into being mainstream so his "fans" increased in scope and his ego inflated. Now small quaint high concept projects are no longer enough to satiate. Plus there's a whole marketing machine now handling his "brand".
>>
>>223932542
The main character's apartment, the one at the beginning of the film, was actually where Lurie lived at the time.
>>
I wonder if there's a solution to the fact that current era, marketing, tech and the industry, any industry tries too hard to manage and market someone's brand. That prevents real artists.
>>
>>223932660
A true "artist" would actively shun mass exposure and would actively pursue his own personal path. Attempting to a cater to a wider audience invariably leads to selling out.
>>
I haven't seen Nathan For You, just a few random clips, but I will watch it all some day.

As for YCSE, the overwhelming praise is a bit baffling. It seems obvious that the actual "documentary" part failed, since all the footage in the first half is shit, they just wasted his time. So he tried to salvage the project by making it a meta fiction on the nature of truth and shit, which isn't particularly convincing. It's like he gave up on caring about the actual story. It's an okay film I guess.

Last post for this evening. It is 12 p.m. midnight. I will be going to bed soon. I finished the book Farewell, My Lovely by Raymond Chandler. It was as if I had read the greatest film noir ever made. It is epic in scope, and it is better than any film noir that was made in the era. There is something about literature that film will never be able to beat. It is impossible. You just can't do it. Even in a series, like a short series, what do you call them? You know, like True Detective and Fargo and those kinds of series, the ones that are short. Even that can't seem to replicate the greatness of the best novels. It is something to be said, therefore, that the novel is just superior to the film. There is just something of such a substantial quality to a novel that a film will just never reach. So it seems as though the best thing a film can do is have the bare minimum substance and just go all out in style.

I recommend the book Farewell, My Lovely. Moose Malloy is my favorite character, and Marlowe says the N-word a lot. In fact, the opening line of the book has something to do with mthe Negroes. It is actually a really funny book. It's hard-boiled crime fiction, film noir, but it's also got a lot of N-words in it, if you catch my drift.
>>

It’s over for Hong Sang-soo, that “Stakhanovistic” soju drenched fuck! His mind has been completely destroyed by the liquor! Do you seriously consider what he’s been doing lately, as worthwhile? I was once a supporter of the man, but not anymore. I watched his Isabelleslop, and what a waste of a brilliant GILF it was. I think he should retire and go into hiding with his woman, Kim Min-hee, and bring along Park Mi-so and Shin Seok-ho, who I believe was his assistant director. Then he should teach them everything that he knows, passing the directorial torch to Shin, and Kim Min-hee and Park Mi-so (who has an interesting chipmunesque face) can star in his films. Finally he should dismiss them all drink till he croaks in solitude like a proper Korean! That is the only way he shall redeem himself from what he has done recently. I haven’t been keep up to date with park mi-so and Shin Seok-ho, perhaps they are passé. I don’t know, but I wish them the best

There's a sense in which this is true, but it's trivial as the hierarchy is defended because it's the beloved familiar and not a mere polemical instrument and a sense in which it's not trivial and simply false because there are conservatives of all classes many of whom refuse shit like gibs on principle.
>They see these lgbtq freaks and leftists as a threat to their priviledged comfort
Leaving aside the question-begging invocation of privilege, this is again true but trivial. They are in fact correct to see lgbtq freaks and leftists as a threat to the beloved familiar. Moreover, this criticism of impure motivation easily can be turned back on the lgbtq freaks and leftists.
>The freaks bring out ideas they don't yet understand and whatever dogma they follow makes them not want to understand it

Think about it from a proportion perspective. When you draw paintings, they teach you how to draw a body and head in the right proportion right? Well same idea. People around that height tend to have good proportions because past a certain height, the body only grows in height and not in width or thickness.
>>
>>223940807
A good face usually comes with a head that’s proportionate to the body, so everything looks balanced. Shoulder width relative to height is another important ratio. Honestly, every tall person would look better with just three more inches of shoulder width and two more inches of thickness.
>>
>>223940924
Right. And then those people get pretty faces because that's just how it works. Makes sense.

Tall, short, average, or just “normal”? If you can immediately tell that someone is unusually tall or short even when there’s nothing to compare them to, then their proportions are probably off, and they don’t look good.
>>
>>223940976
No, it’s just how the human body grows for some reason. A person can grow quite tall, but their shoulder width, body thickness, and head size don’t necessarily increase proportionally with their height.

>>
>>223941248
>Except that how narrow or thin a head is has nothing to do with the head's relative proportions to the rest of the body.
Tall people tend to have narrow shoulders and an elongated body, so having a narrow or thin head looks terrible on it.
>>
Wtf are these niggas talking about lol, heads only change due to genetic factors and genetic expression like down syndrome, you can be 4'11, 5'7 or 6'3 and have a nice OR ugly head, it doesn't have anything to do with height kek
>>
>>223941248
> Except that how narrow or thin a head is has nothing to do with the head's relative proportions to the rest of the body.
That makes no sense. Head width absolutely affects its proportions relative to the rest of the body. A head can look perfectly fine on a shorter person but look too small or narrow on a taller, broader frame. Human bodies don’t scale uniformly as they grow taller. Height can increase without head size, shoulder width, and body thickness increasing at the same rate. That’s exactly why you have to consider how all these dimensions relate to each other rather than judging each feature in isolation
>>
>>223941288
>so having a narrow or thin head looks terrible on it.
Okay? So what does that have to do with the face? Right, nothing.
You're conflating all kinds of things here.
Anyway, I'm growing really tired of this. Either you give an actual scientific explanation for why any body shape or scale would lead to a specific head shape (hint: it doesn't) or why facial features generally perceived as attractive or pretty would coincide with a certain body shape (hint: they don't). Or I'll simply ignore your bullshit from this point on. Because you're not even trying to argue the point, instead rambling on about what shapes you think look good relative to one another, not which ones actually coincide, as you initially claimed.
>>
>>223941303
I’m talking about how, past a certain height, people tend to look elongated because the rest of the body doesn’t seem to keep up proportionally. Their limbs and torso get longer, but their head size, shoulder width, and overall body thickness don’t increase at the same rate. So even if they’re broad-shouldered and muscular, they can still look stretched out. The body gets taller, but it doesn’t necessarily get proportionally bigger in every other dimension. That’s the whole point.
You have a better chance of looking good and “normal” than you do if you’re tall.
>>
>>223941350
In real life, tall people look elongated. Period. They can roid, bulk up, and fill out their frames, but they can still look weirdly stretched out. The reason is that height comes largely from increased bone length, and the rest of the body doesn’t necessarily grow proportionally in every dimension. The torso and limbs get longer, but the head, shoulder width, chest depth, and overall body thickness don’t necessarily increase at the same rate. You can add muscle to make a frame wider and thicker, but you can’t change the underlying skeletal proportions. That’s why simply bulking up doesn’t always eliminate that elongated appearance
>>
>>223941316
>Head width absolutely affects its proportions relative to the rest of the body.
Reminder: Your claim was not "a wide head looks good with this kind of body" but "a body like that more commonly comes with a face (and head width) that looks good".
You have once again failed to even argue your own point.
>>

Also Leslie Cheung is an out of the closet gay guy who plays effeminate roles in movies and Ka-Fei played a transvestite in one movie so I associate them with one another and have trouble remembering which one is which.
>>
>>223941350
>>223941350
> Either you give an actual scientific explanation for why any body shape or scale would lead to a specific head shape
The scientific explanation you’re looking for is allometric scaling which means different body dimensions don’t necessarily increase at the same rate as overall height. A study using 3D body scans of over 13,000 young adults found that arm and leg lengths increased more than proportionally with height, while head measurements increased less than proportionally. Another large study found that head mass scaled more slowly with height than leg mass. These differences can contribute to a taller person’s body looking more elongated, with relatively longer limbs and a smaller-looking head. Genetics influences both height and individual body proportions, but those aren’t identical traits. You can build muscle and broaden your shoulders, but you can’t change your underlying bone lengths or proportionally enlarge your head. That’s the biological explanation and scientific explanation
>>
>>223941375
>tall people look elongated.
Again: That was not your claim. Your claim was that certain body proportions more often come with good-looking faces than others. You are not arguing that claim of yours. And unless you start doing so, this will be my very last reply to you. Have a nice day.
>>
>>223941404
>allometric scaling
That's about relative size between body parts.
It's not about how a body part (e.g. the head) looks on its own.
You again miss your own point.
>>
>>223941379
My point is that overall attractiveness isn’t just about having good facial features in isolation. It’s also about how the skull, head, and body proportions work together. A face can have attractive features, but if the head is narrow and small relative to a tall, elongated frame, the overall appearance can still look disproportionate. The same goes for the body itself: broad shoulders alone don’t necessarily compensate for a long torso, long limbs, or a frame that lacks corresponding thickness and depth.

What I’m arguing is that, in my experience, people above a certain height often look more elongated because their vertical dimensions seem to increase more than their head size, breadth, and overall body mass. Building muscle can add width and thickness, but it doesn’t change bone lengths or head size. That can leave the overall silhouette looking stretched out despite an otherwise attractive face or muscular physique.

I’m not claiming that height directly causes an unattractive face or that every tall person has a narrow skull. I’m saying that the proportions of the head and body have to work together for the whole person to look aesthetically balanced, and that I find this balance less common among very tall
>>
>>223941417
>That was your claim
Not irrelevant to whether the observation is true. I’m explaining the underlying reason tall people can look elongated: human bodies don’t scale uniformly with height. A 3D body-scanning study of 13,031 young adults found that arm and leg lengths increased more than proportionally with height, while head height and circumferences increased less than proportionally. A separate study of over 26,000 adults found that head mass increased much more slowly with height than leg mass. Those are measurable differences in body proportions, not just my opinion.
>>
>>223941461
>My point is that overall attractiveness isn’t just about having good facial features in isolation
No, your point which I specifically responded to was:
>Around this height is also where most good faces happen.

And with that, I'm done with you. I don't believe that you will ever even try to defend that nonsense of yours. You've long since moved the goalposts and ignore what you claimed there.
Have a nice day, anon.
>>
>>223941440
That’s literally my point. I’m talking about how the head looks as part of the entire person, not how it looks in isolation. A head doesn’t need to change shape to look disproportionately small or narrow on a taller frame. Human body dimensions don’t scale uniformly with height, so the limbs and torso can become relatively longer without the head, shoulder width, and body thickness increasing at the same rate. That changes the proportions of the overall silhouette. I’m not claiming height changes someone’s skull shape or facial features, I’m saying that the relationship between the head and the body affects how the whole person looks. You’re treating the head and body as if their appearance can only be judged independently, which is precisely what I’m disagreeing with.
>>
>>223941512
Tall people look elongated because the body doesn’t grow proportionally in every dimension. Height increases through longer limbs and a longer torso, but the head, shoulder width, chest depth, and overall body thickness don’t necessarily increase at the same rate. The result can be a frame that looks stretched vertically rather than proportionally larger in every direction.

You lost cause you have nothing to say. Real life experiences and I even showed you studies. Face it, you look elongated and wired and your dysgenic head looks fucked on your shoulders. Yeah, walk away.
>>
>>223941512
> Around this height is also where most good faces happen.
The proportions of the skull affect how facial features are arranged, and the size and shape of the head affect how it looks relative to the body. My observation is that very tall people often look elongated overall, with head size and breadth that don’t seem to keep up with their height. That makes me suspect there’s a height range where balanced proportions are more common. I’m not saying height directly determines someone’s facial features, I’m saying that skeletal proportions and overall physical harmony matter.
>>
>>223941512
Nice a nice day Mr. Thin Narrow Skull Coping Elongated Loser. Passive aggressive reddit attitude too from you. Fucking low testosterone bitch.
>>
>>223941512
Also, you are acting like I’m saying tall people can’t have attractive faces. I’m talking about skull proportions and overall physical harmony. A face can have attractive features while the head itself is relatively narrow or small for the person’s frame. And when you combine that with a tall, elongated body, the overall proportions can look terrible My argument is that height, head proportions, and body proportions all contribute to how someone looks as a whole. You’re focusing exclusively on facial features in isolation, which isn’t the same thing as evaluating the overall appearance

Not just a bad vaccine; it's not a vaccine at all. Per definition. It's not an evolved technology vaccine, the next step in producing vaccines, it isn't a vaccine at all. It is a genetic engineering platform MARKETED as a vaccine, a morbid mimickry, whereby an artificially made PART of a virus is ordered to forcefully reproduce itself directly in our cells, bypassing all layers of human immunity (and thereby messing with out immunse systems with unknown outcomes...) and exposing, if theoretically succesful (not), only a part of a virus to our genetic memory. I'll leave you and everybody here to do the calculations on what should happen if an unregulated, confused immune system (already an ominous condition) comes in contact with any other viruses of the same kind who have evolved.

And I haven't even mentioned that foregoing the NATURAL, millenia-evolved procedures by which a virus attaches itself to our bodies and reproduces, and directly interfering with our cell cores, injecting a genetic sequence there (because that is how the above mentioned PART of a virus is supposed to replicate) WITHOUT OUR INFORMED CONSENT is reckless and antithetical to medicine.

Covid was a second 9/11, a way for western imperialisms to communicate to the masses that what you knew is over, there will be no more democracy, prepare for war, prepare for starvation and prepare to stigmatise and accept the perishing of anybody who challenges our command, internally and externally (see the genocide in Palestine for example, the usa have put no brakes on israel).

>“Mario Bava pretended that the script was nothing, that we had to work on the set to improve upon what was written before. This is something that is not considered normal in America, yet I must tell you that all Italian directors do this. Even Fellini, Pier Paolo [Pasolini], and Bernardo [Bertolucci]. They all improvise; it’s typical of the Italian style. I used to tell Mario, ‘Now you are behaving like Pier Paolo!’ and he became defensive, saying, ‘Yes? Well, he is an intellectual and I am not.’ And I would laugh and say, ‘Well, you are doing the same thing anyway!’”
>The revision of the script resulted in unhappy consequences. “Bava and I had rewritten he film so that I was the female lead,” recounted Betti. “Dagmar Lassander was sort of . . . ‘protected’ by the producer, you understand. In Italian scripts, each page is divided in two; on the left is the action, and all of the dialogue appears on the right. What actors are most interested in is their dialogue. So, I think this girl had never read the shooting script—maybe only the columns of dialogue. At a certain moment, she began to realize that I was in the film more than she—that I had all of these scenes without dialogue!— and she began to make awful scenes, accusing Mario in front of the entire crew of being in love with me! Finally, Mario had enough and he told her, in front of everyone, ‘Look, make love with as many producers as you like, but in the future, try to read both sides of your script pages!’”

funny, the newfags think that the site being saturated by third worlders that weren't even on the internet 10-20 years ago, and trannies that were only found on tumblr a decade ago is the norm and has always been the status quo.
you're deranged and too low iq to realise it.
archives of the site exist at least from 2012, and even when the site was in the process of dying then, it was evident who was who.
the 'right' have been the default since the dawn of time - you mutant cultists springing out of a cesspit in the last few years doesn't change that.

It’s mine too. I took the week off and went up to my cabin in the woods to hunt. Here’s what I brought to watch
The Comedy of Terrors
The Bat
El Cid
The Indian Fighter
Dead End
The Stranger Wore a Gun
Winchester 73
Anatomy of a Murder

So far all I’ve watched was The Stranger Wore a Gun. It was great. Mostly I’ve been hunting and reading though

>>
>>223944803
Yeah, I wasn't, I was in /mu/ and /tv/ and /a/ bringing the culture to the swine.
>>
>>223944858
Anyone with a brain hates /pol/. No wonder that the usual /pol/tard was addicted to trans porn for decades before suddenly going 180 and now being obsessed with hating trannies (because he can't stop thinking about them).
>>
>>223944926
Can you project a little harder?
>>
>/film/ is just retarded American MAGAs defending pedophilia, nepotism, corruption and kow-towing to dictatorships
Why do y'all even watch films? It's clear they can't resonate with you emotionally or intellectually. Maybe Ben Shapiro joints are more your speed?
>>
>>223945016
Why do creatures like you even come to 4chan (which you hate) when you people have the rest of the internet to circlejerk?

That's the reality of /pol/, it's always:

>Le cuck
Y'all niggas need to go easy on the porn.
>>
>>223945156
Many people here are far right here.
It is in your beet interest to say something passive aggressive and then leave and never come back.
>>
>>223945473
Anybody can go there right now and check if that's true or just your own projecting on the place

Females always say some passive aggressive pussy shit before blocking you, the liberal men also do this.

Yep, just went, it's all trans porn and BLACKED with some niggas whining about goyim and return to your roots white boy posts.
>>
>>223945486
>Many people here are far right here.
One "here" would have been enough.
And, no, you're literally a lone troll who doesn't even watch films.
>>
I'm so glad /film/ is a safe space.
>>
Okay, serious question: Should we even make a new thread right now when chances are that mods will clean up all the shitposting in this one and it'll fall back well below the bump limit?
