in celebration of the holiday today I wish to share with you my fellow /trek/nonnies this gem I stumbled upon while working on my Jeff Collection!
>Alien Voices was a project set up by John de Lancie and Leonard Nimoy which specialized in audiobooks of science fiction novels in the style of radio plays.[1] The productions were distributed by Simon & Schuster Audio, but the project was shut down following pressure from the distributor for greater sales and the dissatisfaction of de Lancie and Nimoy at this direction. The productions featured a number of cast members from the various Star Trek series. Digital editions of the plays were released in 2012.

This special episode contains the following 3 plays: The Mark of the Beast, The Canterville Ghost and The Cask of Amontillado. This was one of three Alien Voices television specials made for the Sci-Fi Channel.

finished SPIC S3E4. it has its moments, but overall i keep cringing at most of the flowery dialogue and overemotional acting for no other reason than to manipulate the viewer. its so tacked on and false, it drags you out right away. the Wolf359 speech by Cpt. Shaw is one of the worst examples of that.

But as i said, there is moments. I like Seven and i like Worf so far.

Other than that its just fanservice, on its own its a subpar, modernist show. If it werent Star Trek, it'd be unengaging.
>>

the legit versions have a holofoil image of quark on the inside

i like just letting the menu screen play the music
>>
>>224046451
also before you instant buy it put it in your cart for a while
most sellers will offer you a discount within a couple days
and make sure it isn't crossing international lines, tariff fees even from canada are ridiculous right now
the seller is also peddling a lot of other tv series bundles
the main thing I would ask for is a picture of the set because sometimes retail stores will use security devices that pinch and destroy the boxes so if you can get an in hand pic of the set try to do that before committing to anything
I would say heyyyy interested in your dsn set do you have an in hand pic, then if looks kosher ask if he could offer a discount and bring it down to 45, realistically you could probably get it to an even 50
hope that helps
>>
>>224046451

I did the check, and I can confirm that the box set I bought does, in fact, have Quark inside. Maybe I lucked out. If I wanted peace of mind, I should have bought the box set at Walmart.

actually walmart is the worst offender when it comes to destroying sets with their security devices
it's a really handsome set with the holofoil printing, and the series are bundled really nicely
he has a 99% score on there so if there are any issues don't be afraid to ask for a refund or replacement, it looks like he buys surplus retail inventory or something

>>
>>224046466
The whole third season is almost pure fan service. I agree that there's a lot of cringe and some very poor character development (e.g. Shaw), but it has enough comfy moments and it's a relief after the abominations of seasons 1 and 2. There are also quite a few plot holes that are hard to overlook and which only serve to set up specific scenes, but by the standards of TNG they're very minor.

The first 2 seasons really felt like a shitty fanfic that pulled the actors out of retirement for a last desperate paycheck but season 3 worked out to be an homage to TNG, a good sendoff for the crew and a middle finger to the dipshit who botched the previous seasons. Far from perfect but better than the shit we've been eating for the last decade.

The legacy of Picard would have been better off without SPIC but at least Stewart died after cleaning up some of the mess.

I don't disagree. It's not objectively good. I still think Matalas gets some credit for trying to course correct once he was at the helm but too little, too late.

After watching Hollywood run trains on every IP it can acquire for years now while failing to innovate anything good, I'm open to recommendations that will elevate my standards.

Vulcans are several times stronger than humans, and it would be logical to assume this added strength would extend to Vulcan cunt muscles. Therefore a Vulcan female's orgasm would very likely have the potential to cause extreme pressure and possible injury. Not recommended.

And I got the time tonight, because the rain picked up so much that I ended up not seeing anybody else for an hour and decided to pack it in. Only 3 hours, and only about a dozen people. I'm glad anybody showed up at all.
As for tonight's episode, that M-5 unit should be called Daystrom's Monster. I kept thinking, even knowing it would never happen, that they'd reveal the Multitronic System is powered by the brain of an executed prisoner or that the Engrams would've been sourced from a mentally unbalanced individual. I suppose Daystrom putting his own Engram into it counts for the latter. If this is what peaking early does to a person, I'm glad to have done nothing of consequence with my life yet.
The name for the story, Laurence N Wolfe, wasn't familiar to me, and DC Fontana did the teleplay, so I decided to check if it was another Alan Smithee from someone upset their story got butchered. Turns out it was written by a mathematician who wanted to explore just the potential of the M-5 unit without the rest of the crew, so I presume Daystrom was partially based on him warts & all. Fontana is 3 for 4 now, I can now let Friday's Child rest as a reference point for her quality since it seems to be the outlier. Favorite moments this week: Kirk waxing poetic about 20th century maritime travel, and him holding Daystrom back physically from entering the Jeffries Tube. Also, top notch performance from William Marshall. Oh hey, he played Blacula! This really is an appropriate episode for Halloween.

Klingons stole their tech from some guys who tried to conquer them.
Kazon did the same thing with the race that enslaved them.
Ferengi purchased it.
Hirogen have been in decline for a long time precisely because of their obsession with the hunt, so they might have been more normal at some point.
Interestingly enough, though Voyager portrays them in a bad light about 99% of the time, the Malon seem to have worked most things out themselves.

The more I hear the Abrams/Giacchino version, the more I dislike it. The "danger" theme that replaces the original upbeat ending at 0:50 doesn't mesh with the rest of the piece at all; it just feels tacked on to make it seem new and edgy. Either let Courage's theme stand on its merits or compose a new one, but not this lazy bastardization.

That "Hodgkin's Law" thing has gotta be Coon's idea to cover Roddenberry's ass for putting yet another parallel Earth story on the docket. Nevertheless, I enjoyed this one immensely. I caught onto the "Sun/Son" twist immediately, but that only come back in the coda so I'm fine with it. The main focus is on the gladiatorial combat and the stark difference between what makes a captain Starfleet Material or not - and how Merik had it in him in the end. William Smithers (who died May 26th of this year, may he rest in peace) gives a really nuanced performance of a guy not beholden to the Prime Directive doing whatever he can to keep himself alive, but not in a desperate manner. He was in the Academy, so enough of the rhetoric got drilled into him to make for someone able to keep a cool head, but like Kirk said he flunked the Psycho-Sim so it makes sense why he'd go belly-up for the Romans and their 4 centuries of peace.
Scotty saving the day by causing a blackout is really clever, I love seeing him take initiative, but it's a bit upsetting that it sort of undercuts Flavius' heroic sacrifice. This is probably only the second time (since Ruk) that I've cared this much about a side-character getting unjustly cut down before their time, but at least the coda has them lament him. (And to be clear, I have obviously cared about other side characters dying, like Moby Decker for example, but his death helped them solve the problem for that episode so it got the weight it deserved).
I also liked the conversation between Spock & Bones while Kirk was busy with Drusilla, where Bones tries to dissect Spock's demeanor again by pointing out how much the Vulcan tortures himself by constantly worrying about his Human half surfacing. It's said to get a rise out of him, but it still comes from a genuine place deep down. I'm looking forward to eventually seeing how Spock's behavior may change in the films and his later appearances on TNG.

the overacting in SPIC is really jarring. i cant believe that fat midwest drunk actually praised the third season. it's like watching a japanese tvshow or a trek fanfilm with a budget (which it technically is). the villain is so bad, there is no threat or tension at all if you ham it up so much. Seven is amongst the only ones that feels subdued and apt. Maybe Worf as well, but having him contrasted with the stupid Junkie makes it less obvious. I'm only going to finnish it because the old man passed on, but i cant believe people actually liked this.
