With that attention you can basically get yourself a seal of quality from the game so that when your next game is made, people can look at it and expect the same if not more quality. Companies are scared to 'fake' the filling of tracing methods. If they would just use interpolation and extrapolated fill, we could have path tracing that is decent even on consoles. Is it fake? Yes, but only as fake as a video game already is.
