I've been replaying the whole Ace Combat series.I don't think I know of any other series with such a long running string of excellent mainline titles. From Air Combat to 7, every single one is at least good, if not great, and they almost all feel completely unique compared to each other.

I'm gonna let you in on a little secret. Only 2 things matter: make the face attractive, and having a memorable design. As humans we naturally gravitate towards the face, so if she's ugly then she better be ugly with a purpose. Otherwise the vast majority of people won't find the character appealing. It's why attractive characters get the most merch, fanart, screen time, etc. People want to look at pretty things, it's basic human psychology. The design is also something rookie devs get wrong. They need a memorable silhouette with eye-catching colours. Overwatch is one of the best examples of excellent character design. Once you nail these two the sex appeal will naturally fall in place. You can be as subtle as you want and people will still fill in the gaps with their imagination. You want to give the audience enough wiggle room to imagine what's underneath the skirt without blatantly showing it. Is princess peach a classy tradwife, or is she a filthy whore? She is neither and both at the same time. Schrödinger's waifu, if you will. And that's it. That's literally all it takes to create a good character. 99% of devs will fail this.
