The biggest problem with esports is that its own conceit to exist is at odds with the grassroots nature of many smaller competitive game scenes. If organizers can't make money off a game that requires heavy skill and is actually fun to commentate, they'll eschew it for something that's directly profitable but lacks those qualities. It doesn't help that too many ecelebs were given managerial roles in the esports world, which resulted in some of the worst financial decisions known to mankind.
