Plays even better than I remember, satisfying weapons with all their own purposes, great audiovisual feedback. No overly complicated skill trees that just fuck up game balance. Boss fights have strategic depth based on weapon usage and the level-downs when you get hit, so you have to think what weapon to save for what situation and encouraging using different weapons (a bit like Doom Eternal).Extremely polished and well-rounded, you just don't get this kind of quality anymore, no obvious flaws except for maybe the Souls-like look-it-up-from-a-wiki quest design for the true ending, which is a bit questionable but still good way to replay the game. Super good music in terms of composition, though the mixing is a bit weak. Simple but solid story with all the right twists and a lot of charm. Not piss easy, but could use a 20% harder difficulty for early game because the bosses before the last trio weren't that difficult for veteran player. You do get some of the alternate difficulty based on the alternate route and then the extra level for maximum skill expression.

I'm replaying the game right now and trying different weapons. I didn't get the Spur like I usually do, instead trading the Polar Star and the Fireball for the Snake. I believe it's the first time I've even had that weapon. It's pretty cool. Just got the Nemesis too, although that was probably a bad idea since the Blade was so good. Still, it's nice to try out new stuff and the game has more replayability that way.The next time I replay the game, I'm probably gonna trade the Polar Star for the Machine Gun right away, just like I did on my very first playthrough. The Curly clones are copied attack bots the boss is creating of Curly, who's held in a glass tube when you get there. I don't think Pixel has ever elaborated on where it was meant to fit in the main game, but it was probably meant to be somewhere in the post-waterways pre-plantation range since it takes place on the exterior underside of the island.
