Bloodlines 2 has 4 composers.
>Craig Stuart Garfinkle & Eimear Noone (27 tracks).
>Rik Schaffer (9 tracks, 3 reused, 6 new).
>Mike Lane (6 Tracks)
The reason you didn't really notice Schaffer's new material is that most of it isn't very good. Not bad, but kinda forgettable. It's not a surprise they bought in new people for a bulk of the score.

I liked Fabien's story. I still didnt' like the game. I wish they'd just make a DLC for it so they could spare us all the Chinese Room walk simulator bullshit.
>>
>>724369184
Pretty much all AAA games have some kind of outsourcing. TCR were under Sumo Digital, so a bunch of Sumo Digital studios contributed.
>>
>>724369441
He talked too much but yeah his story had a good ending.

>>
>>724369441
It originated as the Malkavian story DLC. But they reworked it heavily so that they could replace thinblood Fabien whom they felt was not working as a character. They also clearly ran into issues of the plot being too underdeveloped. So they used Fabian as an excuse to jam in flashbacks.

Also, they felt the game was too action packed. So they wanted to do walking sim stuff.
>>
>>724369509
Regarding the amount Fabien talks, I really think that they should do something similar to what Atomic Heart did and give the dialogue a trim. Keep the critical stuff, but just make it leaner,

From an interview with the game's narrative director, Ian Thomas.
>Thomas admits that Fabien wasn’t originally part of Bloodlines 2. Phyre initially had a different character living in their head, but early audiences found “it’s just depressing to be around these two people.” Two years ago, The Chinese Room came up with the idea of Fabien and a gameplay loop that would alternate between his remembered investigations and Phyre’s far more combat-focused nights.
>“There are a lot of people who don’t want [combat] as their primary method of playing the game. They want other methods of play, other things they can do, and there’s an awful lot of story that we wanted to get into this game,” he said. “Two years ago, I think it’s fair to say that it would have been much more combat-focused.”
The question is how they got years into development making a basically linear action game with dialogue choices without someone noting that this might face reception difficulties given the brand.

>>
>>724369731
First major patch is coming this week. I'm personally holding off because I've seen some nasty game breaking bugs, and I played the first 30 mins and performance dropped like a rock when I hit the first hub.
>>
>>724369925
>Give it a month and vtmb will have a higher player count
I'll give it a month and I'll see people re-discovering what a great gem Redemption was.
>>
>>724369825
Also called Fabien. But he was a thinblood character, and super different personality compared to current Fabien. Was kind of a condescending, whiny prick. Always whining about thinblood oppression and the corruption of the Camarilla and stuff. Also acted as the game's replacement for humanity, where doing bad things would be reflected in his condemnation.
>>
>>724369869
But the Swedes weren't in charge of that exactly. It was The Chinese Room allegedly run by "arrogant, egotistical men in directorial roles" according to Glass Door.
>>

The whole voice in the protagonist's head thing is such a tired trope. What a bunch of hacks.
>>

>>
>>724369925
I don't see that happening. Even Bloodhunt has 507 24h peaks. Bloodlines 2 will likely truck along with about 500-1,000 players concurrent for months. Especially with the usual patches, modest Christmas discount, that sorta thing.

The launch has been rough, but I think some people are panicking for nothing. It's basically Dying Light 2 all over again, except the story of Dying Light 2 was complete shit. So there's that.
>>
>>724370061
bro they were ruining video games since 2000s. It's their negligence alone that's to blame.

It's not a good sequel, but I kind of like it just the same. Disappointing and good at the same time. The story is a lot better even if the presentation isn't.

>It lost 90% playercount in a week, it's not gonna hover at 1k.
Why do you think Dead Island 2 fluctuates between 500-1000 players peak concurrent each week for the past year and a half? Games like this just putter along once they hit a floor. Even Dragon Age Veilguard has 1,000 concurrent players every day. Mass Effect Andromeda has 775 concurrent in the last 24 hours, and it came out like 8 years ago and was immediately abandoned after a contractually obligated patching period.

Like I said, they're rolling out the first major patch this week. So you'll have the game breaking bugs fixed, the performance (maybe fixed). Then the roadmap drops either this week or in November. Probably October 31st to be honest, use Halloween as the launch point to announce what they're going to do to improve the game. Then each time they release a new update you'll get the spike of players, the uptick in user reviews.
>>
>>724369830
Bet of Night is fun, and I hope they update the game so that it plays in more locations. The fact it only plays in the lobby is annoying.
>>
>>724370541
None of the games you listed are at all similar to vtmb2.

This is a borderline visual novel with bad writing. A sequel to a cult classic that came out over 20 years ago. It has no legs. It doesn't have the biotroon loyalists that ME or DA series have nor the turn your brain off gameplay of Dead Island 2 (which also has coop btw).
>>
>>724370623
It is actually very similar to Dead Island 2. A bunch of the same actors as well (the firefighter guy in Dead Island voices Fabien).
>This is a borderline visual novel with bad writing
It's the opposite, it's an action game with very good writing.

I just beat Ysabella. I agree there's a lot to like but TCR's inexperience with making actual rpgs is evident in every corner of the game. Fabien's parts being railroad interludes to the somewhat-fun Dishonored parts with Phyre illustrate this the most, the gameplay has potential but it's clear they don't actually know how to do it properly.

>>
>>724371461
Nah, none of it's terrible. It's hard to judge because, yes, it's a lot better written than the first game, but it doesn't really have the grace and poetry of something like Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs.

I don't think TCR ever cared about making an RPG at all. Their vision of VTMB2 was to basically make a linear action game with dialogue, and then they strapped the walking sim sections onto the game later in development.

>The thread discussing why the new VTMB game sucks
Good, because it's a mess. The one thing I will give the game is that the plot is pretty good, broad strokes. The characters and dialogue writing is all over the place in terms of quality, but the plot and mystery kept me interested throughout. Pretty much everything else is a weird, janky mixed bag. 5/10 not really worth playing unless you're into the VtM setting, and even then it's a hard maybe on if you should.

I also can't fucking believe they were insane enough to include The Sewers 2.0 in this game. It may be arguably more tolerable than the OG's sewers section, but it's still shit.
>>

why action sucks so much then. I don't think they would have made action if they had a choice.

Combat is great. I want them to change the kicking and parrying, though. Need dedicated buttons.
Story is absolutely fantastic.
Character customization is good, but could be better. Female Phyre is so hot. I want some sluttier outfits.
Open world is fine, but clear they didn't really know what to do with it.
Sidequests are complete afterthought. They should revamp them.
>>
>>724371692

Sorry, but the game has basically the same plot as A Machine for Pigs, but AMFP is the goddamn PEAK of videogame writing and voice acting. This game (no VTM game really) comes CLOSE.

Funny. The whole time I've been playing and laughing at how shitty the animations are.
>>724371637
I actually like the combat. I think if you iterated on it and threw a lot more options and enemy types in it could be genuinely good. As is there just isn't enough there to stay interesting all the way through, but it still feels good to punch a guy across the room right into a wall, use your discipline powers, telekinesis shit around, etc.
>>

I think if the game allowed for more ways to approach situations some of this could've also been alleviated. If stealth or dialogue had been a real option to dealing with quests, or if combat arenas had more gimmicks that effect how you interact with them, it would've gone a long way.

Run back to town and get your blood up to full. It might be a good idea to use Awe and feed on different knights across the city. When you get back down there equip the bone weapon on Christof and buff both him and Wilhem with all of the buffs they have, especially Wilhem's Feral Claws. Then run in there and try to make sure that both characters aren't doing stupid pathfinding rather than fighting him. Heal with blood healing when necessary. Save after buffing so when you inevitably die a few times you can get right back into the fray. Everyone gets fucked by the mad monk. He might be the hardest boss because your characters are so shitty at that point.

Modded the game; I completely changed the pipeline, and there’s actually a few cool mods to try out though I recorded this too early to show them off.

There’s also a new optical scaler for ReShade that should deal with depth-buffer jitter, making ray tracing vastly more usable.

I also got better at combat and I’m starting to figure out what works best. I just don’t want to do stealth.

Entrancing Kiss is insane you can neutralize the strongest enemy, have him wipe weaker mobs, and set yourself up to finish him off.

I think Possession is OP for the same reason, and it might even be rechargeable.

The Losamba Flee ability is great super effective versus almost everything.

There are a lot of good fourth abilities, but Mass Manipulation is just insanely strong.

It’s an AOE stun on its own, and you can combine it with other tools to flat-out win fights.

I think my list is still up in the air. with optimal melee combos slow down time and the invincibility power can be strong,

slow time is bugged for some reason its really hard to feed or attack people which isn't supposed to be the case.

Rik literally said he didn't think he would be able to get himself in the same mindset to deliver that same kind of music.
You can clearly hear it on bloodlines too, let's just take a look at the Hollywood theme for example;
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fP_3oo3RCGo
The music of a potential dream, broken to pieces, loneliness, depression and anger you can't manifest and lash out so you sit there and bottle it all in, with a very slight hint of hope that maybe, just maybe, tomorrow will be a better day.

He composed it right after getting out of jail after a life of hardcore drugs, with basically no friends or connections after said jail release, and you can FEEL it, he was basically in that Hollywood hub, he lived through it.

Unless you're a god tier artist you can't just shit this out on a whim, and maybe he couldn't/did not want to dive back into that mindset.

Action is the only thing that makes this trashheap somewhat interesting. The fluid movement options and surprisingly thought out melee combat really fucking stand out contrasted to everything else. They just need to get the guy that came up with the combat system and make him make a game of his own.

The only thing that's really lacking is having to swap out abilities through the menu. If it had a wheel similar to dishonored it would've been better. That, and no reliable "kick" move. DMoMM already solved this issue, and with the amount of rooftop enemies, a reliable push would've worked wonders

really don't get how combat is good in this bitch, playing on Hard and most enemies have ranged weapons so they just shoot me from afar. Enemies dodge or knock me away constantly and its super easy to get stunlocked (well you can dodge but not attack) if fighting more than one at once. Dodging feels disorienting more than anything, and telekinesis is ok sometimes but on many levels its so dark you have to use batman vision to see anything you want to pickup, and why the fuck have ability to pull enemies toward you but not just disarm them or something...
I ended up just using tremere blood boil + boom combo so i don't have to suffer this. Even avoved had better combat and it was generic as hell besides tomes.

Fabian doesn't have the Potence required to rip off a head or ram rebar through people, though. There's also the blackmail phone message left for the ghoul instructing him to leave the letter intended for Ysabella's ghoul

There's not a single Vampire in the game that has access to Potence, Obfuscate and Domination which makes me think the killings never happened at all and were all just in your head.

Yeah, massive respect to that autist named Burgermeister. I played through CQM a few weeks prior to Bloodlines 2 release, which probably was a mistake. Did a Sabbat low humanity Ventrue. CQM is surprisingly competently done, with well-designed quests in East LA, that use skill checks in meaningful ways. Going into Bloodlines 2, I was expecting a linear game, but at least with the protagonist being a monster. Turns out, no, no low humanity vampire here.
>>
>>724379090
It's really funny when you think about it, the usual cope from TCR defenders when people point out that they suck at game mechanics and don't know anything about creating interesting gameplay is that at least they have great writing and characters, yet the first VtMB completely and utterly mog them on those. That's the one thing they're supposed to shine at but the 20 years old game exposes all their failures, there's no pretending otherwise, it's brutal.

No wonder some "people" tried really hard to trashtalk the first Bloodlines before VTMB2 released. They knew they were cooked.

VV is a lot more charismatic and fuckable. She also cares about your appearance (you know, like a RPG, woah!). Safia in Bloodlines 2 is written like a retard. Strippers (and other sex workers in general) are usually the most authentic women out there, especially outside the job. You also didn't ask about authenticity, but charisma and fuckability, which VV surpasses safia by a mile.

>Actually, VTMB2 is quite specific that HUMANs care about appearance but vampires do not. That's what there's that whole mechanic with human NPCs reacting to the clothing you wear.
Not a stat, as clothing is a item that can be changed at will. It's effect is also miniscule and only "useful" for the stupid resonance minigame.

Vampires also care about appearance, or have you never played VtM or any of the games in the IP? Retarded tourist.

I have two major issues with the story
1) why did safia have to stick her fake dead body at very pit of the conservatory? If the nomad was so integral to her plan, sending him into a fucking death trap just to further stoke his anger at the sabbat isnt necessary at all. Stick the corpse closer to the entrance with a handful of unbirthed nd leave some paperwork saying the whole thing is a sabbat plot.
2) fabien figures out that not only is lou behind pretty much every major cammy death in the city in the last 130 years, including his sire, her OWN sire, and the majority of her own court, but also that he has found this out multiple times and keeps getting mind-wiped. How about TELL SOMEONE ELSE. TELL TOLLY. TELL SAFIA. TELL KATSUMI, OR SILKY, FUCK IT TELL EVERYONE. WRITE IT FUCKING DOWN SOMEWHERE.Go to the justicars FIRST, let them known you had been dominated literally more times than you remember and see what else can be done to corroborate the evidence. Get a senior nos in there to be a fly on the wall. Get a stronger ventrue in to compel them to tell the truth. You have to drink the blood of a mentor from that clan. So basically how VTMB2 shows it.
>>
>>724382986
VTMB2 is based on V5, and what they do actually follows the rules. Whether V5 is shit or not is a different matter, but it is line with the tabletop.
>>
>that fucking Skyrim: VTMB mod will actually be better than VTMB 2
kek
Imagine the mods.
>>
>>724382936
Yes, you can actually. That's been a thing since time immemorial. As per Revised/V20 rules, you can "buy" additional disciplines that aren't a default to your clan by burning your skill points. You just need to give the ST a good argument as to how you got to know them. The general rule is that the more "basic" the discipline (Potence, Auspex, Celerity) the easier it is to learn them. Also, some disciplines are flat out verboten, like Thaumaturgy, Viccisitude or Obteneration, because lore-wise, Tremere or Tzimisce aren't stupid enough to share their secrets with outsiders.
So "I eventually figured out how to use Potence on my own" will fly. "I had a trusted Nosferatu friend that taught me Obfuscation" will fly as well. "I figured out the secrets of Thaumaturgy", no, that's bullshit.

About to finish my second and a half run (first run Assamite, did SI ending, rolled back, left Seattle, and now going for a Lasombra run, going to stay).
While I'm very disappointed in how litttle significant, non-cosmetic variations the game offers to your choices, I must say I'm somewhat impressed by a reputation system that can allow me to have exactly the same conversation with Ryong near the end - give strictly the same answers - yet have very different reactions because of the differences in how I behaved throughout the game.
Overall, while I personally had a good time with it, game makes me sad because I do think there is a /good/ game in there, the chore design is very solid with a few good ideas too, it's the execution that too rarely lives up to the potential, leaving you with the moments where it did and a overall mediocre experience.
The game does confirm my suspicion that TCR doesn't know how to write for the medium.

cant say i understand you. i dropped it roughly before the second fabien segment, after i realised going to sleep again would mean that shit i just never wanted to start the game again.
i did the sidequests for that day and they were all dogshit. i did a little of the skill leveling and it was all fucking dogshit because no skill is worth anything. i did all the combat necessitated by the quests and it was all ... dogshit because the combat in the game is irredeemable on a mechanical level.

the only fun i had in the game came from the atmosphere, which is barely skin deep because the city most resembles papier mache, and some of the dialogues which were serviceable. and it wasnt hard to realise this wasnt enough to want to drudge through the dreck.

no, it's way too quantized and flat, and it all sounds like default midi synths.

the brooding pad at the start is an ok base to work from, it should be the prominent thing with some more interesting ambient layers and chord progression.
everything else should be kind of clouded out behind it, except maybe a melodic line, which could be a synth but more VTMB vibe if it's like a jangly guitar lick.

if you listen to the VTMB music it all sounds kind of like a bridge or outro from some Radiohead song. way more acoustic elements, sort of meandering behind a thick ambient pad or strings.
the drums are either incidental like fills fading in and out, or a steady groove. use loops and sample instead of programming them like some EDM thing.
>>
>>724391038
Ah someone who actually understands music. Please tell me what you mean by too quantized and flat, I'm a noobish beginner at this. I was writing a passage in C# Phrygian dominant for a trance track and thought it reminded me of VTMB a bit.

Everythiing makes so much sense when you take a glimpse at the people running the show at Wod, it's the most unholy combination of lack of talent, cringe forced geekness, extreme virtual signalling, self-referential in the most limiting ways, insular, unself-aware, it's pathetic and sad to see the potential squandered.
>>
>>724389432
I'm not an expert like anon, but it sounds too fast and upbeat to me, the beginning sounds like something out of Perfect Dark almost, it has some darkness in it, but gives more action vibes than anything else.
>>
>>724391296
quantized means all the notes are perfectly on time, like a grid. it sounds inorganic and robotic, though it can be desirable depending on what you wanna achieve.
depending on your software, there are probably groove/swing settings you can apply to your notes, which will throw them "off time" slightly in a way that sounds natural and groovy. drums playing slightly behind the tempo can give you that lazy lo-fi groove which is common on the VTMB soundtrack.

when i say flat, it cover a whoooole lot of things.
compression and side-chain compression can give your track more of a heart beat, with the loudness of certain things either punching out more, or dipping behind other elements.
it could be EQ to pronounce or cut out certain frequencies, drastically changing the sound.
reverb is another one, a big hall reverb for example will make things push back in the mix
but it also includes panning left/right and many other things to make the track more dynamic.

music theory wise its fine and you probably know more than me. i know more DAW stuff, but only a little guitar and piano.

for random unspecific quick tips i like this youtube channel, but there are plenty of others to study; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDmLr-uHP40
>>
>>724391983
Thanks for the link anon. The production/mixing side is something I'm even more ignorant about I just turned on the default compressor in Cubase for each individual track. I'll definitely look into my DAW's settings for making stuff slightly off tempo.

I think the writing is at least passable - the quality of the prose itself is generaly good - but it's clearly writen for a purely linear medium.
TCR doesn't know what to do with a medium that gives the audience choices and non-linear access to data. There's some simple stuff they could have done to make the pacing better while adding to replayablity, but given how the game is set up, I wonder if it even crossed their minds.
I won't be suprised to learn that the last year push to add Fabien also ended up making the game an amalgamation of things they wanted to do and things they added in panic mode to try and placate the fans.

>>724394063
Forest for the trees. The issue with Lou mentioning communists (and later Hitler and Stalin when talking about cutting the hydra head) isn't that she's anti leftist, it's that she's obsolescing in terms of world views.
The main issue isn't that she's evil, it's that she's icompetent but powerful enough to survive it unless she drags everyone else along with her.

It's probably an overhang from when she wasn't really a Tremere, but the collectable character card for Safia in the Premium Edition says that she has Protean. (Which would explain how she could alter the appearance of the mummified fledgling to look like her.)

>>724395514
>I figured letting a hunter into our circle was retarded
Embracing normal hunters is a bad idea. Embracing a fed? Terminal retardation. There's no reason as to why she shouldn't go inform her superiors. Feds would be a lot more open to having a superhuman agent working for them. Being a state-sanctioned vampire would solve 90% od issues that come with vampirism.

Benny is interesting because he has complex stuff going on with his sire, Max. Benny seems kinda sad and lost. And Ysabella is odd because Verona seems to think that she didn't used to be nuts like this. So I am interested in learning more about them, although frankly it's content that should have been inserted into the main story. We should have visited Atrium 45 mins into the game, hung out with Ysabella, gotten some foreshadowing that something wasn't quite right, then 4 hours later the place is a human sacrifice shitshow.

The game really needs to be fleshed out with character interactions BEFORE those characters are directly involved in the plot.

>I figured letting a hunter into our circle was retarded
The thing that kills me is the fake binary choice of eithrer killing or embracing. There are so many other options on the table. At the very least: she has 6-8 weeks to live. Let her die.
The game is peppered that way with choices that are so limited in scope as being inconsequent, or even worse absurd.
I can't think of a single tabletop player that wouldn't have been immediately suspicious of Safia. But you have no option to play a Nomad that sees it coming. Which ties into the issue of an Elder fantasy in which you're too often writen as barely as savy as your usual neonate.

I think it might just be that she's pretty strong relative to the other seattle kindred by dint of the fact that she killed pretty much every senior member of her court 100 years prior. She's pretty used to being the oldest vampire in the city, to the point where she calls the nomad a youngster and he has to remind her that he is both older and stronger than she is.
>>
Listening to the OST right now, some tracks I don't think I even heard in game.

From a gameplay standpoint, things I don't understand:
- The passives of other clans should have been accessible /only/ when you've bought every of their active powers, same as base. As is, they're a no-brainer investment. Especially those that fasten refills
- The human NPCs that keep repoping fully charged in resonance would have been useful as a tutorial of sort. But they keep repoping, and SO fast they make the hunting sub-systems, which are pretty simple but could have been a decent diversion between fights, totally useless.
It's like they couldn't balance things and just went "fuck it all".

>>724400204
Weirdly enough at some points, the game offers you options it will then disregard when they get in the way of The Story. Which makes one wonder; why give the option in the first place?

What would that accomplish? Its pretty clear in that very scene that the only person with any authority over her (Ryong) cant do a thing to her without getting dominated, and she's used ryong to set up a blood hunt timebomb you have to go run and unfuck. Had it not been for Safia's bullshit taking priority, dealing with Lou would have been number two on the list, and she became number two on the list again once you woke up.

I'm gonna be honest, I don't know why people are acting like VTMB2 is the worst thing ever. It's not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but it's a very solid game that will probably be made better via patches and DLC.
>fast-paced, combo-based combat that makes you feel like you're actually a vampire
>addictive parkour that incentivizes you to find the most optimal path of traversal without being spotted, leaping across rooftops is fucking fun
>really cool abilities that you can unlock from various clans and chain together into crazy combos, again making you feel like you're playing a superior vampire fighting noobs
>cool lore expansion with the Seattle Camarilla being unique in that they have a position called the Secret Keeper, Nosferatu are tolerated and even welcomed by the Camarilla, and you get to explore how an Elder integrates with and navigates modern Kindred society
>the city of Seattle is rich and fun to traverse, there are little details and Easter eggs to be found everywhere, and the Underground is one of the coolest locations in any game I've ever played
>story is very intriguing with a nice noir flavor to it, and the voice performances are top notch
>the Fabien sections break up the regular gameplay before it can get monotonous and further enhance the murder mystery feeling of the story
>Fabien is also just a great, fun character, perfect representation of a Malkavian

The biggest complaints I see are the lack of RPG elements and the poor variety of side quests. I am disappointed by those myself, but you can skip the side quests with no real issues, and the game was simply designed to be a character action RPG rather than a traditional RPG like the first game.

Judged on its own merits, this is probably a 7-8/10 for me. It's not perfect, it could be better, but I'm having a shitload of fun playing it and I'm about to start my third playthrough.

Mostly agreed. It's not a game I would recommend in a vacuum, it has apparent faults on top of the genre switcheroo, but it's pretty decent and I personally - dare I say it? - had a blast playing it.
I think, as is often the case after those too long waits - the negative reaction is severly magnified by the disappointment. Which is fair enough, I guess.

Did two and half back to back myself to test out reactivity, not as unlikely as you'd think.

I don't much like the execution of Fabien (they were too light into him being the copycat killer; want too much for you to like him), but (coming from the tabletop) I do think the idea of his psychometry being him having a conversation with objects was great. So many things about the "mysteries" feel so brain-dead after finishing the game.
> "What? Are you saying that the ex-prince and her ghoul (Lou apparently being the only Venture that remembers that Dominate is the bread and butter of the clan, and a ghoul the only possible being that can both walk on the daylight, have a pulse and super strength) are the killers!?"
> "What!? The spooky blood magic mark on my body (it may as well have a "A WARLOCK DID THIS! xD" written on their back) was made by Safia!? The only Tremere aside from the Old Lady that never left her coffee shop!?"

And the loose threads just get ignored (like who exactly did the new murderers).

So we designed the game so they have to do a bunch of combat in between walking simulator bits? Where's the logic in this? The rationale should have been "we need to support multiple kinds of gameplay in more controlled environments", not open world combat segments broken up by walking simulator segments with no real interactive element to them.

This anon is essentially right. It's a bit of a DMC: Devil May Cry situation. Is it a fucking terrible game? No, not really. There's fun to be head. It just suffers from being related to something that is giving you crazy high expectations. Everyone knows redemption was kinda trash, but bloodlines blew everyone out of the water. Bloodlines 2 is good in story, atmosphere and general gameplay, but man you get no RP choices at all, you can break the masquerade like a motherfucker if you feel like it, and I have a feeling that on replay it's gonna be really fucking noticable how little meaning most "choices" have, oh well.
But all that doesn't make it a game not worth playing. You won't have a terrible time the first time through. Quite the opposite, actually I believe: For a casual playthrough this is a pretty fun game. But we all hoped for Bloodlines 1 to pass the baton for the game we can obsess over for the next 20 years, and this game just ain't that. The problem isn't that BL2 is unplayable, the problem is that BL2 is not worth obsessing over at all.

Did any of the writers know anything about the setting? Kindred are basically rapist (at best) with superpowers (it's as close as you can get to do a supernatural mafia without screaming it in the audience ears).
Aside from a couple of weirdos trying to achieve Galconda, none would think twice in using a mortal to accomplish their goals (especially as they get older: it's just a matter of time before you kill an innocent person while on frenzy, or just the night to night deteriorates your humanity as you survive the jihad).

Fabien the bumbly detective is a fabricated persona he uses to make his world bearable. He's bruised and abused guy tasked doing dark shit for others (see Fletcher asking you to dispose of the cigarette girl), living in a fantasy as a cope.
He is more than likely the copycat killer. He made that pregnant woman a vampire as a form of vengeance over those that dominated him He's presenting Gideon as much nicer than he is (though the mask sometimes falls, see the mention to torturing the casino guy).

They are unironically shills.
They are at full force, even on reddit, trying to paint this game as anything else but a complete disaster.

It's simple people: you have an action game (it doesn't have any RPG mechanics to claim to be one) with 3-5 enemy varieties, a literal straight line of perks as your "skill tree", main quests that are literally just cleaning room after room of generic enemies, the same boss fight you ctrl+c ctrl+v 4-5 times and (surprisingly) a duration of less than 20 hours. All for the price of a AAA game...
And this is ignoring the horrible writing, characters and the lore disaster (yeah, a century old vampire leaves a corpse now).

I think it's broken at the conceptual level. Cyanide is not a good developer. But if going at it with the idea that you're playing a point'n'click with some RPG-lite mechanics attached, it can be a pretty decent romp for a fan of the setting. Personally, I very much enjoyed the absence of hand-holding.

Read steam reviews. That's the main reason it's attacked.
>>
>>724411553
The Fabien segments alone are enough to put this down to a 2/10 in my honest opinion, it's actually insane to think a game made by a supposedly professional team would have pacing this bad, it's anti-game design, carefully crafted to be the most obnoxious and aggravating for the player instead of engaging.

There isn't a sinlge aspect of the game that isn't deeply flawed, the stealth is more broken than a 90s game, enemies see you through the floor consistently and sometimes even through walls, it's hard to tell where an enemy is looking at.
The combat has some decent animations, but is boring and repetitive with not enough interesting choices to make in terms of building or tactics to deal with encounters, all encounters feel the same.

Traversing the town is cool at first, but quickly loses its charm, masquerade violations are less impactful than GTA wanted stars and every part of the town feels the same, you are just happy because you can get through it faster, not because it's fun.
>>
>>724410757

>complete lack of RPG elements
>dialogue choices do not matter, ever

>the skill "tree" is a fucking stick
>half the game is a boring walking sim
>there are literally 3 fucking sidequests: a fetch quest, a kill quest, and a track and kill quest
>performance issues across the board
>no ability to play as a Gangrel, a Malkavian (no the fucking cuck detective doesn't count), or a Nosferatu

After some thought, 7-8/10 is pretty much where I am too on it, because you really do have to judge it on its own merits. We've known for YEARS that this wasnt going to be anything like the first game, and frankly expecting it to be when VMTB was made by someone else, somewhere else, twenty one fucking years ago is retarded. Sure the obvious question this raises is "why the fuck name it bloodlines 2 then" but its pretty clear if you've been in ANY VTMB threads over the past like two years that if it were named anything else we probably wpuldnt having this conversation in the first place. Naming it bloodlines 2 got way more asses in seats than anything else would despite the unfavorable comparisons it might have brought with it.

Fuck most of the combat encounters are structured like a puzzle. You're presented with an area with and a bunch of mobs and some tools for dispatching those mobs, and you cant advance until theyre dead. How you solve it is based on what the situation is, what stuff is around the room to use, and what your disciplines are.

The Sabbat is very subdued in v5 and for a couple years it was just gone. Somehow all called to the middle east to fight a antediluvian

I was wondering why animations look like hunt down Freeman.

She's lying there, amusingly. A Campbell plant that plays at being stupider than she is.
I'm still unsure about her end game.

It's less present. I wouldn't describe it as subdued.

Sabbat were described as all going to the Gehenna War until Paradox realized that was a mistake and added them back in

still not playable though

Not that clan choice really matters, but Niko makes me regret choosing Banu Haqim. Each side quest is worse than the last. This guy failed to pay child support so he must die! This drunk guy got into an accident so this woman didn't get to watch her child die in the hospital, kill him! What a little faggot he is.

Evil chud, you can't play the villain / status quo. You will play the nobody and you will like it!

To be fair most of the people he's sent me after are worthless pieces of shit and the world probably won't miss anything now that they're gone, but a faggot human-eating vampire trying to pretend like he's the true arbiter of justice is fucking goofy. IRL I'd just tell him to go fuck himself and maybe report him to the Camarilla in the hopes of getting him executed for potentially violating the Masquerade.
>>
>>724417080
What he is doing is a masquerade violation and you as a Sheriff should kill him.

Even if another studio gets it for free they'll also need to really love/understand the IP and basically be allowed to write their own thing.

Besides being a bad game, it shows the most poor representation of the Sabbat (similar to how they were on the first edition: just a boring bunch of psychopaths).

Bloodlines 1 was similar, but the mood of the game was silly in nature, every sect was a bit of a joke (the Camarilla was just a bunch of incompetent hierarchy obsessed pricks, the Anarchs was just a bunch of misfits and socialist carpets, etc).

The Sabbat is all about rebellion, camaraderie and accepting the Beast.
Yes, they are monsters, but so is every other sect (Camarilla just has better PR, the Anarchs barely have enough power to show they are just Camarilla-light and the Independent Clans have the most macabre plots in the whole setting).
Funnily enough, thanks to the Vaulderie (a blood ritual every pack practices every now and then) every pack is partially blood bonded to every member, so it's one of the few places in the world of Kindred where you can actually expect loyalty (artificial or not).
This combined with their alternative Paths (alternatives to Humanity, that allows them to "ride" the wave of frenzy instead of avoiding it) makes them really interesting (they are not monsters trying to hold on the few remains of their humanity...they are kindred that have accepted what they are, and built strange paradigms that allows them to process what they have to do every night to survive).

Was the drunk child abandoner Mr Lemon or am I reading too much into it? Fabien remarks that he smells familiar and they share the same name/are both drunks (and yes I know lemon was mindfucked and not drunk in the flashbacks but he had a bunch of drunk and disorderly priors.)
>>
>>724417518
I honestly couldn't tell you, I barely pay attention to dialogue during the Fabien slop or the cookie cutter side quests. I do vaguely remember what you're referring to though so maybe?

It's almost like the assassin clan takes assassination, and vampiric cannibalism, lightly. And that they are known for a non-human path of enlightenment that takes honor and killing the killing of justified impure targets as valid blue and orange morality.
>>
>>724416984
Nothings stopping you from playing Sabbat. Its a TTRPG.
>>
>>724418531
the rules to play then are not in the book
>>
>>724418580
The Sabbat clans (maybe not all) have V5 rules, you absolutely can play them
