You know, the last couple of years I've been dreading the coming AI wave of slop. We've already had it bad with all the lazy clone games, but poor people with zero vision or moral + AI will bring on a new magnitude of slop, tsunami of slop, tens of thousands of games drowning out any chance of finding the good shit - and it will only grow larger.
BUT - this year has been so fucking good, so many bangers so far.
I now realize, this is an even worse fate. Rather than having trouble finding gems in a sea of shit, there are now so many good games made that you have zero chance of having the time to play even a fraction of the demos for them, let alone the games themselves. Even if you no-life like me. I've downloaded 250+ demos, played 59 so far. I've added six to my wishlist. It's good, but it hurts...

Where is the best place to send feedback? Steam forums?
>>
>>733737275
9/10 times yeah, unless it's a tranny dev, then you might have to go to bluesky or discord
>>
>>733737275
Depends on the dev. I've reported bugs several times on the steam forums and only one dev took 2 months to reply saying they didn't check the steam forums only discord.

Tough question, I've played FPS since wolf3d. There are so many good variants.
Outside of pvp, movement isn't as important as good, reactive AI imo. You can have slow, deliberate tactile movement and a good game as long as the AI is designed around it, like in Ghost Recon or SWAT.
Halo 1-3 are great since the AI is so expressive and fun to play against. FEAR too.
The most fun I've had in SP in recent years have been The Citadel and Beyond Citadel, since the reload autism helps you get immersed. Adds enough of a layer to really get you engaged.
My top FPS games would be doom 1, 2, Halo 1-3 (reach sp sucked), HL with mp mods, Vietcong, BFBC2, The Citadel, Ultrakill, DayZ, q1, q3a, CoD 1-3, MW2, Crysis warhead, WGR2 Siege Breaker, lovely planet arcade, stalker, natural selection 2, painkiller, dark forces, SoF1... there are too many good to count.
Out of Action is a really cool pvp experience, but there are so many options and you really need to give it some time to get to learn most of them if you want to know what other people are using

Guns that feel weighty and have good sounds

However a little gun autism to at least some extent is a plus, mechanics like different ammo types, customization etc.

Had it added to my wishlist before playing, it's a day 1 buy for me, it reminded me of this one: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1483370/The_Use_of_Life/
It's a turn-based RPG with procedural generation, but you chain up attacks as long as you have stock. You can play the story mode or an arcade mode which is for score. The game does not allow you to name your character and instead provides a random list of names.

Too many dykes and easy, boring enemies. The one good thing is luring enemies into shooting allies. As you said, looks decent though
>>
>>733737731
actually i think a better way of putting it is "are you trying to put your own spin on something you loved, or are you trying to remake something you loved?"
if it's the former i'm more interested, if it's the latter less-so
>>
>>733740654
Finally some good fucking food. This reminds me of old RPGmaker doujin games. A game that takes the turn based fantasy RPG formula and does something unique with it. The chaining attacks + Martial arts theme reminds me a bit of Hybrid Heaven

Deep Snow Delivery was pretty great for the length of the demo but I question how it'll expand into a full length game, it's pretty mechanically simplistic and the setting doesn't seem to allow for a whole lot of environmental variety to supplement that.

SCOTT PILFTGAY EX!
Remember Scott Pilgrim? Now it is as old as the retro shit it used to reference.
SCoot Pilgay loved 80s stuff in the 2000s, now we are in the 2020s so Spit Pelmgrem is so RETRO, wooo, aren't you fucking excited that this fucking grim reminder of the patient zero for woke shit is BACK?!!!
You kids don't know but this faggot hipster shit used to be a very big deal.
It gaslight Universal into producing a very expensive movie that as many as 10 people saw in theaters because most of the fanbase for this shit was very vocal and very insignificant.

Now let's look back at the cringiest shit of the 2000s.
Like...VEGANS!
Remember Vegans? Remember when the most cringey shit around was vegans? Scott Pilgrim Farms Members.
It is funny that this cultural fad will be remembered because no one got the balls to make fun of trannies outside small schizo wojak games on Steam, looking at you Running With Scissors.
What else? Starbucks and Teenager Clerk jobs. You kids wouldn't know but man Starbucks and Chain Restaurants used to have openings for young people when young people thought they would only work there for the Summer, what a long summer that was, lolololol. Not that it matters, the few chains still open will have only two employees at most when AI replaces everything.
Young people will have to get their money either playing Russian Roulette on Kick or whoring themselves on OF, the future is now!

But enough of that.
so how is the game?
Terrible.
"Open World" Button Masher with sooo Retro references to things that are now 40 years old, maybe even older.
Back when the first game arrived it was in the style of GBA games that were still around.
I am not even sure Gen Alpha has ever seen a sprite game before.
Also what is funny is that this game takes place in Canada prior to migration waves so even natural Canadians might have a vague memory of the setting it's supposed to represent.

Roguelite RPG where your attack options are determined by the weapons you have, but each weapon besides your basic attack can only be used a limited number of times before it breaks so you need to manage your resources carefully. You get more weapons from chests or by stealing them off of enemies mid-fight. You can even steal bosses' weapons, which in some cases dramatically changes their attack patterns (whether this is a good thing or a bad thing seems to depend on the boss).
There are four different 'routes' depending on which of the heroes you choose to rescue. I've finished the demo with two of them so far (Warrior and Mage), and they felt pretty distinct both in gameplay and in the story/dialogue bits between bossfights. My only real complaint is that the English translation is very rough, but the combat is fun enough that I don't really mind.

Romestead, it's a as a 2d (the models are actually 3d though) village building minecraftesque game set in rome that has 8 player coop, there's a bunch of undead the gods have lost most of their power and you now have to rebuild rome and restore the gods, the story setup is weird, the gameplay is decent though

you start out playing a 2d survival slop game, building picks and axes to get resources to eventually build a crafting bench, which is where the game becomes a city builder, quickly after getting the crafting bench you'll start crafting houses, which in turn let you build specialized buildings that gather resources or craft advanced items for you, to power these though you need to go recruit villagers, which is the games biggest weakness

villagers are scattered across your randomly generated world, maybe I just got fucked over by rng but villagers felt so rare that it almost made the game not worth playing, you eventually get to a point where you need villagers to continue which depending on your world size and luck may just lead you to wandering around pointlessly for an hour hoping you find them, combat is decent enough it's just left click to attack or shoot, hold to do a charge attack, you have a dash as well for dodging, enemies felt a bit fast but I'm also an old and slow boomer, overall nothing was too difficult

Anyway I primarily played it because I have rome autism but it had very little to do with rome outside vague themeing (I get that the roman gods are in these games but you could have called them greek or norse gods and they would fill the same role)

tldr; 6/10, if it was rebalanced a bit and the building options were more extensive (let me rotate houses) I could see this becoming an 8/10

The movie is carried by the FX team much like how the Ubisoft game was carried by the music, but the new game is terrible in that it is not a property that holds up over time, the characters suck for the most part, and it got to be the weakest Beat Em Up if you fancy a retro game.

It is weird to describe, because not only it aged poorly, most of its fans are balding and in their 40s, single moms or killed themselves. It is odd in the sense that the initial game from 20 years back was hipster retro, and now Scott Pilgrim is old but not significant because it was shit for the most part.
It is a part of the 2000s that deserves to be buried in piss.
No offense if you like it but the memory of /co/ story times and watching the movie with /tv/ when it was new is still fresh. So my reaction is not "Oh wow, I remember this" but "Oh, that thing". Like why would you bring this up? If anything Scott Pilgrim and its consequences provided disastrous to the western civilization

https://store.steampowered.com/app/3877560/Crack_In_The_Dark_Demo/
Crack spelunking has never been this engaging. I was worried it would be visually tiring staring at black but especially once you have the whip the view range is good.
Map drawing is totally up to the player, I did the first cave drawing every wall. By the last one in the demo it was Hiroglyphic landmarks but it makes perfect sense to me to look at. I've always had strong mental mapping of 3d spaces so doing more in depth map making felt unnecessary at least with how relatively simple the demo caves were.
Max res was 1080p and ingame fps limiter had to be reapplied every level load but those are easy fixes.
Definitely interested if the dev can manage to extrapolate this into an entire crack crawling experience that is longer than a couple hours.

>>733736634
You do get food drops from some enemies, but it's just a generic 'meat' item across all of them. It honestly has a super shallow and basic cooking system for a game obviously inspired by Dungeon Meshi. From what I saw you either cook stuff over a spit or in a stew, no preparing it or anything, and it isn't even necessary to do in the first place because drinking water (which is sourced from infinite springs scattered around) is enough to counter the hunger debuff completely.

From how the devs made it sound they aren't very proud of the demo because they want the full game to be a much more open ended dungeon crawler too, but progression in what they cobbled together is very linear. Took me and two friends less than an hour to finish it and we were fucking around a bit too.

I hate how Inkonbini looks. It's crazy to me that they managed to make a conbini look even more soulless. All the fake kanji and the random japanese words as names for products make it feel like a game made by someone that has never set foot in Japan.

>Nebula Veil
Contender for my favorite one so far, tied with the next one. Has you exploring around a fucked up bit of space in a small shitty ship. I'm a sucker for games that let you fuck around with lots of buttons and knobs and this has that. Gameplay isn't at all similar to Iron Lung, because I know that's gonna be some people's first association
>Deep Snow Delivery
Deliver goods with an elephant tank in a snowy world, pretty kino if you don't mind slow games like this, which I don't.
>Cicadamata
Not my thing, too visually noisy
>Hovercrafts x Nihilism
Similarly visually noisy, albeit much less so, but also less interesting to play. You fly a boat around and shoot things.
>Insanio
Looks pretty, sure wish I had a clue what the fuck was going on though
>CD-ROM
Somewhat esoteric puzzle game, puzzles jump from absolutely trivial to "I would never complete this". If you're the sort of person that likes ARGs then you might like this, not to say that it is an ARG but it requires some similar leaps in logic, personally it filtered me.

I'm shilling because I know the dev. Fucking sue me.
Forehead Chip is a 80's sci-fi Run n Gun where you get to run around the city shooting forehead chips onto the useless wastes that haven't got their damned chip yet. Tons of physics interactables. Physics based bullets you have to pick up and manage your shots. Extremely simple controls, neat spritework.

He sucks at marketing. So i'm shilling it for him. Give it a shot.
It's a dead simple run & gun with a good gimmick.

If anything, play it for the 4-player PVP with stage gimmicks and drop-in 2-Player Co-op.

Dead Watch
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3464670/Dead_Watch/
More of a mystery game than straight puzzler but you have to take notes and figure shit out. Even funnier game if you happen to be a danganronpa fan and luck out during one puzzle.

Cat Squeeze
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3739300/Cat_Squeeze/
Cute sokoban game where you have to create narrow spaces at the ends of tubes by surrounding the exit with crates or walls, so your cat can squeeze into them and blast through to progress. Pretty weird at first but fun once you get it.

Senpai Cram
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4109040/FamCram/
Another cute sokoban game. This time around you play as a daddy trying to put his daughters to sleep or orient them towards objectives while avoiding obstacles. They love their daddies so no matter they are, move exactly like you do. Charming presentation and aesthetic, easy for the most part but the last level was a BITCH to 3 stars. Excited for more difficulty spikes.

You are an up and coming e-celeb who has to complete levels by recording yourself playing them in a video editor type of interface. You can record your movements and drag the footage around to have better timing, have "hidden" editors press buttons at the right timing to make spikes and obstacles disappear as you go through them. Just play it, it'll likely make more sense than my explanation.

For games from previous next fests, I can recommend Grooveyard, MotionRec, Ooo, Is This Seat Taken?

>Sound design
Top notch if you love hearing nothing but the sound of your tank and the wind, really nailed that DS vibe of having a job that mainly involves being all alone.
>Music
The tracks included with the (unlockable, gotta go to a specific town) radio are nothing special, lots of ambience, some fun beats here and there. I dropped in my own music after skipping through a chunk of them.
Pro tip: don't upgrade the speakers or get the headphones, the distortion from trying to turn it up is peak.

Not the first time that I have trouble in a section and have to bruteforce a stupid solution. Like ten years ago I first played super metroid on the Wii U virtual console and didn't know it had a run button, my only experience with metroid games up to that point were zero mission and AM2R. So instead of running over the crumbling bridge in the starting area, I cleared the path after doing short hops in quick succession. It took me hours to get the timing down but eventually succeeded. Even recently there was an area in silksong where I spent an ungodly amount of time manipulating the AI of some enemy to reach an area, without realizing that there was an obvious easier method by activating some mechanism.

It's just a shame that the pure tactical/combat aspect of the gameplay is really underwhelming. This is legit my only complaint about monster hunter stories. I don't know how it goes for the other games in the series but going from the demo of 3, even vanilla pokemon battles are more engaging somehow to me, without including romhacks and whatnot. It's a shame because everything else is on point and dreamlike for monster collectors, doubly so if you've played MH games before. I don't know any of the 5th gen and above monsters but they are cute here

From the same devs as Yog-Sothoth's Yard except this one actually has a passable translation instead of MTL garbage.
It's basically a visual novel with a farming side game to it. The farming is kind of tedious but I was starting to unlock automation after three hours. The demo is really long, I still didn't finish it after that point.
Anyway the good aspects is that it's a mystery / lovecraftian horror story about figuring out what's going on in your city while posing as an alchemist. There are lots of characters and the art and music are great.

I saw a next fest game but forgot to save it to my list and now I can't find it. It was kind of a breakout like, where you could bounce off the walls and ceilings in the rooms and break tiles to get powers and effects and progress. The "levels" were almost top down zelda like I wanna say but maybe not really. The game's in 3d and there's no 'theme' - like you don't play as a human or anything iirc, you're just a block breaker shape thing.

Abstract/simple aesthetic. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

I'm a rogueliteslop enjoyer, so I usually throw in a single run to get a feel on whether the core loop is engaging enough, even if I hate it early/midway. I might do multiple runs if I feel like I haven't seen the full extent of item synergies/interactions (Everything is a Crab is a good example, I got a decent amount of variety [hit and run phys build, ability maxxing poison build, tanky pacifist build] in spite of the low-item pool size due to it only being a demo).

I think the big issue is that in Disco Elysium, the flowery descriptions and even goofy lines make sense in the context that Harry is man that had a long life with several different interests and experiences, hence all the different skills he has and how he developed them over the years. Hershel, the spy lady in Zero Parades, is way younger than Harry, is a Spy, so she shouldn't be upfront about what she's doing in the same way Harry could just barge any conversation asking about the murder and the overall tone of said character doesn't fit the more "out there" dialogue options DE had.

I can believe a has-been, old cop that has been a Disco fan, a gym teacher, a top notch investigator, now sad drunk would sometimes get crazy and talk about boxers and create weird names for himself to not tell people he doesn't remember his name.

I CAN'T believe a young female communist spy is that desperate and off-color during a seemingly urgent mission where her partner is left catatonic on the floor and is literally at risk of dying at any time.

The tone of the stories, the characters, the way the "skills" are presented don't fit. Feels like when a franchise tries to go a different direction, but still feels tied to the things that made the original game/s popular, so doesn't commit completely.

Also, the new skill dialogue is boring as hell compared to the original skills, since part of the cool thing about the original skills was that they also represented different aspects of Harry's personality and political leans, but here it's just Eh. I understand that maybe part of the story would be about Hershel's conflicting alleigeances to her communist country and how they handled her "freezing", but the skills and inner dialogue don't really gel.

Not even mentioning that making the main character so attached to the local affairs, like being connected directly to major characters through her backstory, also limits the roleplaying possibilities.

Didn't feel all that sudden, gameplay-wise 3-4 hours in a tutorial area of sorts feels about right and by that point I'd pretty much figured out the most optimal routes between, and in terms of writing I was actually starting to get attached to the location and characters so their deliberating between leaving to potentially help other people or staying and being safe was effective and landed for me. Maybe you'd like Esoteric Ebb. Obviously trying to be Disco Elysium but with D&D. I had a pretty fun time with the demo and a friend who was playing it at the same time as me had a vastly different experience in just the first 20 minutes of the game.

Your tolerance will probably vary based on how much you enjoy white bread D&D stuff.
>>
>>733737938

So far my only issue with the game is that it has that janky physics issue for cargo unless you roof your cargo. Like it doesn't play nice with some big crates even when it looks like it should fit perfectly fine and you get that source engine clanking sound when shit's clipping (not sure if the game is in source tho, probably unity or something).
Not that big of a deal but can be annoying when you just go forward a bit and medical supplies gets tossed a mile away somehow.

Are you the dev? Really like the game game idea and style.
Small thing that tripped me up: If you miss the sleep prompt by the bed on the first day (it's not visible when standing on the bed itself and easy to mistake for the friend goblin textbox when rushing by him) it becomes pretty confusing what to do because the jp dialogue from the friend makes it sound like you should talk to the elder goblin now, which of course does nothing. The English script is very explicit that you should do that tomorrow.
Also out of interest, which version is the original language and which the translation?

Yeah I've been wanting to make it so that the sleeping dialogue also appears when you're on the bed. Will also add make the Japanese dialogue a bit more explicit.
The original language is English. I had a friend translate it to Japanese, though it's a pain to ask him every time I change something minor so in some cases I change the Japanese a bit when the game itself has changed and it becomes inaccurate. Or when I add new minor hidden items.

I drop quite a few after only a couple of minutes. If the UI looks like plain text and placeholder assets, there's too much story setup before the gameplay of a demo, or if the gameplay feels janky or boring right away I drop it. That's because Zero Parades was made by the people who stole the Disco Elysium IP, not by the creators of Disco Elysium

Cool, good to know. I guess the torch text then is out of date too, right? The jp text says that it gives the burn skill and that you can burn wooden objects with it, en just says it gives a burn stack.
Already tried to throw it everywhere without luck

Oh shit yeah I forgot to update the jp ||torch|| text. Good find.
You should still be able to destroy doors with it, specifically the one in the toilet and the one in the smithy have items

Added a collider under the bed and checking for interactions downwards. It works but there's just too many colliders in this tiny space so it keeps switching. Who the fuck designed this room? Me
I'll have to sit down and do this properly I guess. Or move friendblin outside in the evening.

That's a lot of issue I have with it, yeah. Harry was a trainwreck of a person and it was fun watching different aspects of his personality poke out. New super spy girl is comparatively boring and I genuinely don't care about her verbal diarrhea of internal monologue. This is the one time where I believe the term hollow facsimile warrants using. They tried copying the "structure" of DE but the writing quality and artistry isn't there.

I'm looking forward to it. I'm just not playing the demo because supposedly the full game comes out soon and I just want to play it all in one shot.

I mean modifying the text to be more specific is probably good enough too. If I hadn't immediately run off to the elder and a search around the toilet, I probably would have noticed the prompt quicker.

aah, didn't think of that at all, nice secret. I more expected the trees to be burnable, for example the one in front of the small cave entrance
>>
>>733777989
You can cut the trees with basically any weapon
Granted using a torch should probably work too, it's just that getting wood by using a torch seemed pointless because the torch already costs wood to make.

Why is the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action giving money to a video game?

I have looked at over 14000 games through the discover queue, and one of the things that almost instantly results in an ignore is shitty capsule art.
There are very few games with a horrendous capsule that are actually crafted well.

Why is there like four different art styles going on here?

Why do you think?
