Oh shit, nice. Well, I'm running a playtest session this evening (1900 UTC), they're pretty comfy and at present are entirely made up of anons, so if you're interested come along and we'll share some lists you can try.

I definitely do need to add a much better introduction to deckbuilding btw, it's one of the biggest problems the game has right now - thanks for the reminder not to overlook it.
>>
How does next fest work, are there new games every day? Is there any point in browsing anymore if I didn't find anything good on first day?

>>750120424
There aren't new games every day, but after the first two days it switches to having the algorithm push good stuff to the top and slop to the bottom rather than giving everything roughly equal exposure - so if you were wading through a lot of shit and not finding anything good in the first couple days, it could be worth coming back for another look.

I think rather than all the games being shit, the bigger problem is that every game is tagged incorrectly so I can't find the games I want to find. I found one game that I kinda liked and tried to find more, but couldn't find anything even remotely in the same category because every indie retard puts every tag into their game.

The best example is probably the "immersive sim" tag, you get nothing but "cozy shop simulator"s where you click on trash on the ground to clean them up.

>False Oath
Classic survival horror game with tank controls (like older resident evil titles) taking place during the Middle Ages

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4601100/False_Oath

Wonder what the "secret laboratory" equivalent and explanation for the plague will turn out to be. Abandoned crypt at the border of the underworld with heretic witches (male or female) that performed weird rituals?
>>
I enjoyed this game, a backpack battler but you can fuse items to transfer effects from one to another. Also nice art style.

>>
>Complexia , A Ballet of Blades
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4688060/Complexia_A_Ballet_of_Blades

Top down action game featuring chaining attacks, of the usual parrying and dodging. Very stylish but I couldn't even bring myself to finish the demo, the movement and attacks were too slippery for me, and small pet peeve of mine but there's no indicator of when you're pressing the parry button. I might just be shit at this game specifically. Visual presentation and music are really great (manga style dialogue) so people with more talent and appreciation for the genre I suggest you give it a try and see if you can click with the combat.
>>
>Hemlon The Grey
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4354580/Hemlon_the_Grey_Demo/

2D sidescroller that plays like sekiro, with some special skills you can use. Movement is a bit weird but it has momentum when you run and jump, platforming can be unforgiving. Otherwise, it's parryslop.

Always funny when you immediately find some exploit in these demos. Dev didn't realize that the light and heavy attacks animation cancel into each other so you end up DPSing much faster than the enemies can handle.

At the very least you should exclude the Incremental or Autobattler tags because thats what all of them are.
It sucks to need to use additional filters to find a long established genre but most people couldnt tell the difference between a shooting game, twinstick, or danmaku to save their life.

Roguelite pinball with guns. Feels good but highscore tables with a permanent unlock system means you just want to finish early runs ASAP since they won't be able to match a fully upgraded player. The demo boards were a bit drab and the second one had an easy jackpot loop. Shame that they all have the same theme. Got a 12 mil highscore on my second run.
Wishlisted, would pick it up under $10 eurobucks.

Played three demos so far:

Beastfolk Barber is just a visual novel. I ended up skipping most dialogue because it wasn't interesting. The slutty bunnygirl and her senpai the uptight catgirl who are both (apparently) being conned by the same foxguy were cute I guess. Porn when?
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4093320/Beastfolk_Barber/

ROCKBEASTS is pretty much Dispatch with a "grunge band" except on a tight budget. Critical Role (Laura Bailey, Matt Mercer, etc.) is involved with this one too, though they don't play any of the main characters. It was okay. Maybe.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1445880/ROCKBEASTS/

Valkyrie Iteration: Mecha Pilot Raising Pocket Simulator or Gundam pilot girl tamagotchi didn't hold my interest.

The tag system's kind of shit.
If your game's creative and interesting but doesn't fit into one of the big tag categories, nobody will ever find it, so devs are incentivized to make genre clones or else tag bomb to get more exposure.

Great VA and writing for a western 2D action indie. Weird how the demo wants you to fight dozens of the same dinky enemy and harvest shit without letting you build or craft. Combat seems like a step-up from Stardew but still slow and easy. I should have picked the hardest difficulty instead of hard. Art is pretty bland.
Might pick up under €10.

I wasn't too keen on Rusted Moss either. Enemies and bosses pose little challenge. Art is pretty good but the direction seems too derivative from Rain world and the maybe Radio the Universe. Drab colors.
The hookshot is kinda fun but too spastic and easy to abuse. Most segments are trivial to sling yourself across. The first cut of the second trailer on the store page shows some pretty cool movement tech, but I never unlocked it in the demo.

>>
I like the way False Oath looks but I don't know if the gameplay works for a full game. It's literally just parry and attack, and if you fail to parry you lose either shield durability or HP, until it eats into your resources. Also if ingots are limited then repairing your shield would permanently lock you out of upgrades.
>>
>>750120867
I marked the repair authorization false like he asked and he blamed himself for the outcome, maybe it's supposed to affect a quest on a later day with his attitude towards you.
Actually having to type out encoded messages is equal parts interesting and annoying even as someone who types recreationally. I imagine some players will complain if there are more time-sensitive encoding orders.

Shame that it's all jeets prompting incremental vampire survivors and shitty porn VNs with the same exact look. Will post a list of the games I wishlisted during this steam next fest, tranny seething be damned. In no particular order, just know that I've loved these games enough to wishlist:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2603850/Shadow_Mate
>Shadow Mate: survival horror "nobeta"-lite, feels more like an action game when you see webm rel. ran like shit on my pc but still had fun

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4650840/UpBeat/
>Up-Beat: punch-out clone with cute girls, surprisingly competent, requires good reflexes and keeps the puzzle aspect for certain fights
https://files.catbox.moe/5knpu9.webm

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4601100/False_Oath
>false oath: resident evil medieval edition with parryslop combat, good atmosphere and funny setting

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2975260/PRISON_OF_HUSKS/
>prison of husks: PS1 style soulslike with parryslop combat, love the aesthetic but the demo was really short)

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4917610/Nightmere/
>nightmere: RPGmaker anime detective game with gameplay mechanics similar to ace attorney, cool vibes, art and music with mindfuck potential but writing is a bit weak and puzzles range from frustratingly obtuse to a bit too easy (if you are observant)

https://store.steampowered.com/app/3895110/The_Road_of_Dust_and_Sorrow/
>the road of dust and sorrow: 2D sidescroller horror game with a plot similar to the last of us, you control a mother protecting her daughter. she's not a good person and betrays without thinking twice, pixel art and sound design are stellar but there's a lot of cutscenes for a demo. game is easy because you are flooded with resources and enemies rarely surprise you. still high effort

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4991210/Angelic_Agency_Soul_Salvation_Unit
>angelic agency: anime VN with ace attorney mechanics about paranormal events. distinctive artstyle reminiscent of paranormasight/TWEWY, good music as well. demo ends abruptly

https://files.catbox.moe/pf9v3u.webm

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4528520/Scarlet_Beret_Murder_at_the_Orphanage
>scarlet beret: simple mystery VN featuring teenage dykes, that looks like a 07th expansion game. Doesn't seem to be big in scope or ambition. Enjoyed it based on the art alone, author is clearly a fan of ryukishi

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4801980/Rain_of_Lead/
>rain of lead: katana zero but with yuri sprinkled in and stronger focus on the sidearm(s) + giant robot. good pixel art, gameplay feels slow for now likely because it's the beginning of the game. still a labor of love and full of charm where it counts, even if it's not as mechanically intense as the original the change in setting and scenery alone makes it worth it to me

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2685100/NOIR_BLOOM
>noir bloom: 2D sidescroller that also looks somewhat similar to katana zero visually and setting-wise (cyberpunk/sci-fi/futuristic) but has more of a sleeping dogs/bamham combat and vibe to it gameplay-wise. MC does kung-fu shit and can parry bullets. Also has a daughterfu you care about.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4487970/Dont_Return_to_Wonderland
>don't return to wonderland: certified CUNNY, survival horror/creepy atmosphere and high production values RPGmaker game with a lot of exploration/puzzles themed around alice in wonderland. Endearing and seems to have mindfuck kino in store

>Estella: anime rhythm game where you use only two keys but have to reposition your mouse to hit the notes. Really frantic and unique, demo has a good amount of songs. Story is whatever, if you liked In Falsus or Arcaea you WILL like this game.

I think it's by design, old survival horror games didn't pull out their punches. (mostly due to technical limitations)
I personally like it, imo it creates a nice balance between "I need to fucking run away aiiee!!!!!!" and "hehe you are locked with me now faggots"
If you are good at the game you can do the latter, otherwise if you're not confident you're forced to think about how to avoid obstacles. Which is better than being forced to run away all the time
BUT that is if the parry mechanic isn't too trivializing. Even when you don't have any shields left you can still be invulnerable in false oath, all at the press of a button

Wait, nevermind, it DOES have coop. That's why you asked. My bad, I fucked up there.

Ye, it's a game in a framework that was basically designed for singleplayer, there's no need for coop.

If I may offer a recommendation, filtering coop games will just nuke decent singleplayer games with optional multiplayer. What I'd suggest is to look whether a game has the "singleplayer" feature in the sidebar menu.

>Oblivion 2666
It's light sci-fi with more focus on introspective character development. Writing can be a bit obtuse, but reads more like a /lit/fag wrote it than an animebrain. There's a couple direct references to Borges' Aleph short story. There's a twist about halfway that made me worry the tone would shift to creepypasta horror, but it stuck its landing.
>Cardaire: Eternal Aces
It's a pretty short demo, and there was only one minigame directly related to card battles. The resource system is MtG-lite, but as a yugioh player I was able to get into it. Archetypes really lend themselves to deckbuilding. I like it more than the other indie TCG attempts I've tried.

Nah. Being decent means doing everything I SAY

Here's the new list of rules:

1. If you post dumb off topic shit I'm going to tell you how stupid you are being.

2. If you post demos and act like a normal person I don't do anything.

Just be decent okay it isn't hard to listen to everything I SAY you have to do it ALL MY WAY

Well I am off on my work rotation. I played plenty during press preview but they added more when the real festival started. The festival ends the same day I return home. I can browse the lists and click add to library just fine from work but the playing waits until I am home. Now this is my kind of weird shit.
Heat, boost, and glide all being tied together feels cumbersome at first but quickly becomes enjoyable to engage with, especially after you switch to something other than the starting ship.
Areas are huge, while also cramped, and hard to navigate specifically where to go, but I found my way to a boss at the end.
Not sure if my game broke or it's unfinished but after beating the boss it opened doors that just led out of bounds, and picking up gear stopped working as well, just getting stuck to my ship.
Looks like there is going to be a ton of depth to the stats and weaponry, the first ship I swapped to and finished the demo with had the asymmetrical weapon hardpoints which become super important in 6dof combat.

Really makes me wonder why Disney doesn't just pay some small studio to make a low poly Alien horror game, it would be free money. Isolation 2 is still years away it seems like, so it's not like it would steal that game's thunder.

Dungeon crawler (with optional coop, for that anon who will ask). Combat is a bit wonky but satisfying, except for the boss fight that was complete ass. Now that most of the trash got sorted out yeah I think this Next Fest was pretty weak, they can't all be bangers unfortunately, but hey I did find a couple of interesting games in it and that's always good.
>>
>>750119928
I thought this game was alright. I know there's a shit ton of card battlers with rouge-like elements but there's some fun strategies involving positioning and chaining effect triggers. Story has good intrigue.

Translation is very rough though and it's lacking some Q&A. It's stated to launch in January but I'm expecting a long early access.

Also he died 1 turn before escaping, not very mild of a failure.

You don't lose the ammo in the magazine, it just gets added to your inventory as a seperate stack and if you don't condense your ammo it'll just reload the next most full stack. So say you reload your assault rifle and you have a stack with 18 rounds and another stack with 8 rounds. It'll just load that stack of 18 instead of a full reload. To get a full reload you'd need to combine the two stacks of ammo. It's basically a somewhat realistic magazine system that lets you condense your ammo.
>>
>>750174941

I wish I waited to try this, the pre-nextfest demo didn't have any voice acting and the game felt very dry. But I already played it and don't want to play it again.

Yeah, for a survival horror game, the resource management is extremely lenient, even on Hard Mode. I do recommend filling out the survey, as it very open ended for recommendations, and I think this game has massive potential. I will say that the lacking enemy behavior is a major flaw that's probably going to be harder to work around

>EVIL MOON: Unspoken
Low-poly nuns with wide hips shoot demonized humans that were corrupted because the moon heard them speak. Really cool premise and presentation but kinda faked me out by being more first-person Metroidvania than boomer shooter. 8/10
>Mingle
cute game where you move a character around a scene to find their match and then change to find another until it's empty, surprising variety 6/10
>Appulse
Pinball on spaceships but you ball can get guns with recoil. Slick presentation, good controls, good feedback, and of course it's a fucking roguelite. Still, might be worth a try. 7/10
>Olympus Rangers
Pretty blatant Pokemon Stadium-like with a few new mechanics like positioning and assists from party members and small tweaks like that. Only tried because the dev made a great arcade-style shooter called Candy Rangers. The music is EXCELLENT. 7/10
>Generic Fighter Maybe
It's a very standard 2D fighting game with simple goofy characters and slick animation. Fun & simple without being casual. 8/10
>Elta: Defy All Gods
Decent TPS-camera melee combat game crossed with Metroid Prime. Neat painterly textures and cool alien/armor designs PLUS you get a little dragon buddy. Clearly an early build though, only demo that crashed on me. 7/10
>Louloudi Asteri
Horizontal shmup that's actually in 3D space and you can travel into the foreground/background while rotating the playfield whenever you dodge. Seems like a really cool idea but it genuinely overloaded my brain in the tutorial.
>Annalynn MD
Dr. Mario x Puyo Puyo in a beaker (aka a cylindrical playfield you can rotate). I could actually wrap my brain around this one and it's great. Super charming presentation as well. 8/10
>>
>>750179540
>Ball Busters
Roguelite about doing juggle combos to a dummy. I've thought of a game with a similar premise but this is a bit too janky. Girls are hot and the music is great though so maybe. 6.5/10
>SLAM TANK
Insanely fun and goofy premise but commits hard to it and controls like a dream while running quite well even with tons of fast particle effects. The mixture of simple vehicle handling with melee combat makes it feel like basically nothing else. Shame I could sniff out the AI usage from the loading screen and the page confirmed it so I'm docking points. 8/10
>SPLATTER KING
Simple hand-drawn single-screen arcade game. You slash at enemies and dodge attacks so monsters don't scare/take your babes and you don't die. Very unforgiving, very Dragon's Lair. Charming but I don't see it having a lot of depth. 6.5/10
>Raging Blasters II
Pixel-perfect vertical shmup with simple, effective mechanics and nice music. Very PC Engine-coded. 8.5/10
>Alexus 2040
Galaga with a bunch of temporary power-ups, bosses, and unlockable ships. Actually really nice and understands it scope very well. 8/10
>Teaknights
Sin & Punishment but with that over-exaggerated Y2K style a lot of things are going for now. Nothing exceptional but I do appreciate the attempt and the main girl is very cute. 7.5/10
>Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee
I mean all they had to do was not fuck up an easy slam dunk and they didn't fuck it up based on what I played. Plus they knew to have based Gigan playable in the demo. All I needed to know.

>>
>>750180456
I tried it, found that the direction that you shoot in is completely independent from where your gun is actually pointed, had a laugh, then stopped playing. If the dev doesn't care enough to make that work properly, there isn't any real chance that the rest of it is any good.

Wasn't really... anything. I'm not too experienced in daughter-raising games as my only experience is Drapline (adore that game, pic related), but this just felt really linear. Went in blind, raised Sync since that seemed like an important stat, and just coasted for the rest of the game making sure to keep her fatigue and depression in check. Easy skip, even though it looks pretty.

There's been so many shitty horror fishing games since Dredge, with only like one button input to fish, no preparation.
Even Crimson desert has a better fishing system, and that doesn't even use bait at all.
Only decent ones I've seen has been About Fishing, Sinker Sound and the Nice Day for Fishing, only because they were ever so slightly more mechanically involved
>>
>Violence of Action
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4911460/Violence_of_Action/
Early on WW2 fantasy (spider tanks) tactical action. Commands are janky and lack nuance. You can pause but it's on cooldown. Queue up actions but you may only cancel entire action chains. You can't tell a soldier to enter prone once he arrives, he's either prone the entire movement or not at all. No cover mechanics. Troops scatter on grenades without your input. etc etc. You can find melee weapons but not use them as far as I've seen?
Still, cool stuff like destructible buildings, smoke screens, wound system. Needs a lot of work, demo was too early. Will check it out again later on. Shame on the generic name.

Neat.

I gave the demo three playthroughs and it's pretty damn hard to work with the 3 stamina limit, especially since many cases can be ambiguous and talking can reveal three different symptoms so you can't be sure if that one conversation was all of it. I did manage to get a perfect run but it genuinely requires some luck.

Very short demo. There's what, tree movement techs in this? All aspects of it needs work. Running fast is fun, air charge for jump is good, air control is decent. Hookshot doesn't feel like it conserves momentum in a great way, but feels decent at times. A wall jump or ground pound jump would help with it feeling more fluid. The final stretch of the demo felt pretty fun, but again, it was very short.

I would play mecha games if easterners were capable of into good mech design. Gundams with codpieces are lame, they're just twinks in blocky costumes, they don't feel like mechs at all, and they don't have the benefit of being ridiculously absurd like someone doing that with a literal normal tank. This is stupid in just the right way.
