I have mixed feelings about the return of these characters because I still like the Jaheira of BG3. She feels like a natural continuation of who she was in BG2.

Larian started the game with a false sense of urgency with the tadpoles being something that should be cured like it being your goal to get the anti-sorcery necklace removed in their previous game. But they doubled down and turned it into a game long plot element rather than something that should be removed in Act 1 and as this game's version of sorcery powers. It's a sense of urgency which following should have been rewarded in some way rather than turned into something irrelevant that you ignore as part of gameplay and only comes up in a few cutscenes. Yeah sure perhaps the storyline falls apart in the way since one source of motivation is gone. But then again they could have gone a different direction or simply just offered a potential reward for pursuing the cult after the tadpole is removed if they wanted to continue with that plotline. If we refer to alignment good characters would be motivated by defeating an evil, neutral and evil characters perhaps revenge since the cult could be presented as behind this and a threat that if you don't deal with will ruin everything for you. Evil characters can be promised with the prospects of power perhaps in taking over the cult later. All sorts of other motivations can be thought of without having to have the tadpoles there past Act 1.

Having absorbed Orpheus will have given him not only more ability to utilize it but also to preventing someone else from using Orpheus' power to interrupt his future plans. He's playing the long game and even with the sympathetic ending he is certainly not acting in anyone's interests other than his own. You and your companions go on to live in peace and then die. And when you're out of the way he can start to focus more on enacting his plans, preparing and waiting.

Im going to slaughter the purple menace. Then I killed the shroom collector in an explosion on accident. His wife took it well which just depressed me more. Then I decided to try to deal with the hag. First I unpetrified a guy im the hut but he succumbed to a disease. Then she had those mask servants. I took them out peacefully but thwn I looted the masks and killed a few before I realizwd what was happening.But the worst is yet to come. I came so close to saving the girl. See I realized the trick to determine who was the fake and who was Ethel was to examine. I noticed one weight was 75 and one was 77. But my dumbass thought "the hag weighs more but the disguise wasnt perfect so she couldnt get the weight all the way down to the perfect value". So I forgot she was prwgnant and those two pounds were the baby. So i guess you could tell where I qent wrong. Ethel tried to make me a deal but fuck that, I struck her down.
