My main base is on one so I never get meteor spawns there, but when I fast travel to an island after spending a while at my base, the event pops up immediately. Last time I redid it like 7 times and it was supply every time. Then I got lost in the saves and was forced to take it. But you can do that to make it the event you want, I've done it before.

It would be nice if those pals had *some* use, or even if I could just grind the fuck out of them to get them up to bar, but there's no option to. Ok, so I think I've figured out 24/7 oil production. If manually assigning a pal to the large generator, their sanity doesn't decrease once it reaches 100% (possibly unintended), but instead slowly increases up to 100. So a singe 4 star Orserk with +30% work speed from pal souls and the shown passives can power three oil rigs nonstop.
