What is even the point of having a stamina bar in these games anymore? It made sense in Demons and Dark Souls, since they were more grounded games, but they way FromSoft is trying to make everything faster and more actiony it seems like a relic. Maybe you need it for blocking to not be overpowered but everything else can be balanced without it. It keeps getting bigger and refilling faster with each new game; will the next one have a bar that takes up the whole screen and refills in half a second? Why not just cut out the middleman and make the games without it?

What's misleading is that the animation suggests that his attack is coming much sooner than when it actually comes.If FromSoft wanted to encourage people to use defensive options other than rolling that's fine, but this is a hamfisted way of achieving it. They should have just trimmed down the i frames on rolling, or increased the endlag for it. That would have fixed the problem of rollspamming right out of the gate. Instead they made it so your mid roll, which you get to keep until 70% equip load instead of 50% like in DS1, has the same frame data as the fucking 0% equip load fast roll from DS1. Even the fat rolls in ER have more i frames and less endlag than DS1's mid roll.The design is at odds with itself. They made rolls into an amazing defensive option since they know people like it, but they don't want you spamming it so they give enemies cheesy shit like unnaturally delayed or endless combo strings to compensate. There's no longer a clear idea of what they want the combat system to be like and how to achieve that, they're just throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks.
