>>487404970I actually owned one, also had the original C1 I got off somebody for pennies, and can give an informed opinion.Depending on your playspace size and how much of a tinkerer you are, it can be kind of cool but at over 1000USD it's a hard ask. When it works right and you get all the settings perfectly dialed in it is amazing as fuck and some next level immersion even if it's not perfectly replicating walking. Because it's close enough on the C2, C1 was awful on this. As long as you have nothing in arms length though, your play space feels infinite and you never have to worry about hitting something.Problem is that because it's emulating the thumbstick in order to have basically universal compatibility, the settings you use can vary a lot per game. You can set per game settings, but this can sometimes take a while to get "right." Especially if the game has a binary sprint/run toggle. You can set a certain speed threshold on your walk to auto trigger sprint but it doesn't play very nicely with games that have a huge gap in speed there, like saints and sinners. This can make using it frustrating. So, on the one hand you can really dial in your experience to be perfect for (You), but if you're expecting plug and play it's gonna be a bad time.The other issue is that it's goddamn massive. So if you have a smaller playspace, it literally takes up your whole area. So you can't NOT use it if you don't want to sometimes. Sure, you can just not turn the thing on but it's still a massive inconvenience just being strapped in. Which makes trying to play things like thrill of the fight, where you gotta physically move, not playable. And some micromovements in faster paced stuff, like say backstepping in B&S, doesn't feel very natural. Only forward walking feels close to natural.It's definitely got a use but it's a very specific use and would not recommend it for over 1000 dollars unless you got loads of money and like to tinker with things.

After playing for a few hours ITR 2 is in a similar state to ITR when it released into early access. Both games released earlier than they should have in my opinion. Much like the first game I would recommend waiting at least for the first couple of patches before playing it so you're not fighting the controls the entire time. In hindsight I wish I'd waited too, developers shouldn't be rewarded with sales when they release games like this twice in a row, it sets a bad precedent.Basic shit like player IK and gun handling has most noticably regressed back into a very poor and buggy state, presumably because they were reworked for co-op. There's also a lot of bugs and a lot of performance issues as you'd expect. I had one crash, a few objectives break forcing me to load a save and some random bullets spawning in my base. Weapon cleaning isn't in yet and all of those admittedly shitty physics objects like stoves and cupboards are gone, you just loot from open boxes.On the plus side there's a lot to like from what I've seen so far. The new anomalies, artifacts and enemy designs are much more thematically interesting. The enemies are pretty strong right now with the ones with guns being a lot more accurate than in the first game. They will enter buildings and shoot from the windows which I almost never saw them do in the first game. Killing them is quite satisfying too as their bodies can break apart before they ragdoll through the air. The new level design seems like the biggest upgrade with lots of little junk pile type areas with minor loot or currency between the main landmarks, the map feels a lot less empty. The foliage quantity looks nicer than the sparse ITR1v2 maps too. There are chest rig and backpack options with varied slots now, I picked one with a chest mounted pistol holster that feels very tacticool.

I finally solved an annoying behavior of tundra trackers, where they're extremely eager to turn on if you start charging (or stop charging) them, and annoying to turn off (hold down the button on every single tracker for 3 seconds). You can't fix in the hardware apparently, but you can use the lighthouse_console.exe program from steamvr an issue the poweroff command to all trackers (which you can enumerate yourself), even if steamvr itself isn't running. I scripted this in https://pastebin.com/nbKdWDuJ , which you can modify with your own serial numbers and add to the task scheduler, if you have the same autism.>just plug the trackers in before turning off steamvrno, this breaks my workflow.

My objectively correct view about ITR2: Still very rough, but they have the core stuff all down okay. When I mean core stuff I mean core ideas and concepts. It's janky as all hell, but that can be polished out. You can't fix bad design with some polish. The core stalkan stuff is there; run into artifact fields, grab artifact, get surprised by weather conditions etc etc.
Enemies are easier to see but hit a little more accurately. a LOT less damage but they hit more, which I'm mixed about. I'd rather have damage that was more avoidable, since that means a skill difference can save healing, rather than having heals just a thing you do after combat.

Finger tracking is pretty unreliable right now (using Quest Pro, maybe it's better with Quest 3).I kept trying to use the walking gesture (thumb + ring finger) but it kept thinking that my index finger was also touching my thumb and opening the menu. And at least with Virtual Desktop, the gesture to open the VRChat menu and the SteamVR menu is the same. You can see in video how I was spilling my spaghetti trying to go back in-game.The VRChat menu would greatly benefit from being touchable, but that would probably require another rework. The camera UI could work as it is right now tho.Also, if someone can tell me how to get OBS to record an OpenVR window without massive cropping I would greatly appreciate it. The video didn't capture most of my left hand despite being in view.
