Elden Ring does not lend itself well to a "finished character" or "meta" level. Meta level in dark souls and dark souls 3 was obtained by going into new game plus or getting a shit load of lord souls dropped for you, meanwhile in elden ring people are blowing past 120 on a single playthrough. Not only that, but the game is just not suited to duels very well either with all the retarded shit possible. I'm nearly done with the DLC and a good half of the bosses I've been through haven't been fun. They weren't fun to learn and they weren't fun to beat. Between the nauseous camera, the piss easy and boring the open world and legacy dungeons, the really bad lore around Miquella, and the bosses making me feel like I'm playing a geriatric with how flashy, relentless, and badass they are, I'm just not having a good time. I don't know if it's my playstyle, a skill issue, or if I'm just getting too old for this, but I've kind of been forcing myself through the DLC. Casting my mind back a bit, I remember Sekiro actually being a bit more demanding up front in comparison, but it always felt fun. That might just be the nostalgia talking though. The boobplate has been the high point of this DLC.

The main thing I got from killing all of these things is that FromSoft devs, like all Japanese devs, have no idea how to discern the difference between technically punishing vs skillful challenges, nor how to properly weigh punish vs rewards.If you whiteboard Aged Untouchables and how they impact gameplay, they severely suck because they demand an obscene amount of care but provide basically nothing in return for it other than a return to the status quo of exploring the map, but actually not because you still can't summon torrent.You get nothing interesting for avoiding them.You get nothing interesting for killing them (in part because Madness is useless outside of PvP and some niche fights).And if you attempt to do either, you end up choosing to either play stealth in a game not designed for stealth, or try to parry an attack that deliberately takes a short, jagged path with a big wind-up to throw off your timings. And if you fuck up, your camera lock gets broken and you have maybe a second or two to heal before it casts the ability again. Parries in Elden Ring in general are bad enough they shouldn't ever be core gameplay. Not to mention the FPS lag from all the fog and light in the Abyssal Woods.2/10 they add nothing to the game. It's fun sneaking by the first one or two but overall they're a garbage enemy that perfectly highlights some of the biggest failures of modern Japanese video game design.

So I finally played through the DLC, and its kinda overrated? So many cases of reused content - like there's barely any new enemies, just reskins. And the enemies (and bosses) just have spammy flailing movesets that feel way too cheap compared to how quickly you can move. And to make it worse, there's huge expanses of nothing where there isn't even anything worth exploring. They could have compacted so much space but instead its just me trekking through nothing. And after beating it, I feel more confused than anything. There wasn't a new ending, the story just kinda ends with this weird scene that doesn't feel climactic or narratively satisfying. I don't even feel like I accomplished anything? And it doesn't connect well at all with the base game.
